Ok, so Kourtney, I know I owe you and email and we were going to talk about the world of HR, and I'm going to try to get it done today. However, I just wanted to say that I had a phone interview for an HR Administrator position this morning. It'll be interesting now that I've been on the other side to see if anything comes of it.

I haven't been on here in awhile....so much going on lately.

Awesome! I have one more test do to for an HR position in Portage. It's an office that handles all the benefits for companies so I won't have to hire and fire anyone. I already passed five of the tests, then hopefully an interview. I would love to get a position like that before I have my degree and then move up. Good luck!

Have fun Sunday. It looks like a good day for a concert. Get to the train station early because last year when Nick and I went on the last day of Lolapalooza it was packed. People had to stand most of the way.

Tara BAD Random: I haven't been on here much this Summer. I thought when I was done with classes I would have more time but that's not the case.

Good Random: It's Friday and this is the first weekend since May that I don't have any plans and I am happy about that. I rescued a puppy last night from the SPCA and I just love him already. I was looking for a smaller dog and found the right one. He is almost 5 months old, Miniature Pinscher/Jack Ruseel mix and he is adorable and really small. He already fits in at home. I have one dog okay with him and my chocolate lab doesn't care for him and barks at him all the time. We haven't heard him bark or whine yet. He is from Arkansas and thought to have been abused since he has a chemical burn on his ear. Poor thing.

I have been looking for a new job in between my busy days and night. I have gone to a lot of concerts this Summer and still not done. I have one next weekend and the weekend after that. I do have to say that I went to my first Michael Buble concert with my mother-in-law, my husband's aunt and my sister-in-law and it was one of the best concerts I have been too. I thought I would be bored but I was wrong. My husband and I will be going to Chicago again on August 15th which makes my third time this year and his second. We were there just about three weeks ago. If I had my choice we would already be living there.

I am ready to be done going places all the time for a little while. I hope everyone is having a great Summer.

That Michael Buble concert sounds awesome, Tara. I haven't been to a concert in years and years...I'm not too big of a fan of concerts. Not really sure why. My first concert ever was Britney Spears, though, and I remember having a blast. Haha! And I went to Coldplay before and loooooved it. Maybe I'm just not a big music person. Haha. Most of the songs I like are from the 80s and 90s. :)

Tara, that's fun you're going to Chicago. Are you planning on moving there?

message 507: by Tara (new)

Tara It was a really good concert. I love going to concerts and I usually drag my husband along as well. I seen Britney once along time ago when she was on tour with Nsync during the start of her career. I would love to see Coldplay. That would be a great concert. I like a kind of local group from Chicago called The Spazmatics and can't remember how many times I have seen them. They will be at a local club here where I live on August 16th which happens to be mine and my husbands 6 year wedding anniversary. I can't wait. They are an 80's cover band and they are awesome! You would definitely like this group.

No, not planning to move right now. I wish. :(

Awwww, a new addition. I knew it wouldn't take too long. :) Although, it's been, what? A year? That's funny that Abbie doesn't like him, I would've thought Sadie would be the one to have any mixed feelings.

Sounds like you guys have been super busy! Have fun in Chicago in a couple weeks. I can't wait to go to Lolla on Sunday! We're taking the train. I say it like we're for sure going, but I still don't know yet. :/ Still waiting to see if someone will take over Greg's schedule for Sunday.

Someone else we know went to the Michael Buble concert, but I can't remember who.... We were supposed to go to the Orbit Room in GR to see Seether back in May but I wasn't feeling it and we needed the money (that we got from selling the tix) more than a concert (stupid home remodel, lol). Oh well, some other time.

I was going to mention the Spazmatics to you too, Bianca. The group that both Tara and I have seen is from Chicago. I think there may be one in Texas....I can't remember for sure. As far as HR goes - sometimes it is harder to interview because you do know how the other side goes. And because we know all the tricks and whatnot it makes hiring for HR that much more interesting as well! But lets still talk just in case :)

So, earlier, I had this whole post about my experience at Lollapalooza, and when I hit the "post" button, it came back and said something went wrong with the post. GRRRR I am not typing all of that again. :/

Suffice it to say - bring your own roll of toilet paper when you go to a huge event like that, do not expect it to be provided for you. (First world problems, right?)

No matter what the forecast says, bring a poncho. Even if it's only a 30% chance of rain. Because chances are, it WILL rain and you WILL get soaked and get blisters on the bottoms of your feet if you happen to be wearing a pair of rubber flip-flops that have grippy/traction stuff on the footbead in the rain.

In spite of all that, and the rain/blisters causing us to leave way earlier than we wanted to (sometimes, you just gotta give up and call it), we still had a good time.

P.S. If there's a Wow Bao restaurant anywhere by you - get the Mongolian beef bao buns. They have a little bit of heat to them, but the bun and the sweet pepppers calm it a little. They're really good! :) Oh, and a chocolate croissant is not everything I thought it would be. Especially not for $5/croissant.

I'm glad the passes were free! :)

Bianca (bbollinger) | 761 comments So, I am on a major cleanse this week. I just deleted a bunch of people on Facebook I no longer keep in touch with, deleted old pics I don't like and next up is old phone numbers! I have been meaning to do this forever but kept putting it off. I also got rid of clothes, make up, etc. that I never wear.

Does anyone else ever do stuff like this? I'm not a hoarder by any means, but I just felt really cluttered and like it was time to get rid of the things I don't use to make room for more exciting ones. :)

Oh, and don't worry. I never throw out books!

Yeah, it's been almost a year since we had to have Zack put down and Tuesday will be 3 years that Roger passed. That went by really fast. Cooper decided to try and escape on Saturday through the gate that is attached between the house and garage. I panicked big time so Nick made it so he can't get through the gate, that's how small and skinny he is. He is such a good puppy and only barks when Abbie and Sadie do. He sleeps at night too. Not once has he whined.

I was surprised at how much I liked the Michael Buble concert. He is very good looking, can sing and is funny!

That sucks! I didn't know it was supposed to rain in Chicago. I seen all the pictures on Facebook from the area for Lollapalooza and it didn't seem fun to me anymore. I remember what the people looked like on the train back and decided at that time it wasn't worth it to me. I'm glad you confirmed it :).

That's what I am worried about with our boat ride because I bought the rides on Groupon and I have to make a reservation. I don't want to call yet because I am kind of waiting to see what the weather will be like there. It will be no fun going on a boat on Lake Michigan and the Chicago River if it starts raining.

Yup, I do that stuff from time to time. Let go of the old and embrace the future. :) I even do it with books. ;)

And speaking of old phone numbers, I had a phone call come through on my cell that looked like a familiar number. Didn't answer as A) I'm at work, and B) it was't someone pre-programmed in my phone. I figured whomever it was would leave a message, but they didn't. I keep racking my brain and all I can come up with is that it may possibly be my crazy/psycho ex. Which would explain why no message was left.

Or it could've been just a wrong number, which also explains why no message was left. :)

Take a poncho! That's going to be my new motto for going to Chicago. LOL

Yeah, it was crazy, I pulled up the Weather Channel app during the first downpour to look at the radar and it said it was currently "partly cloudy." Pshh! It rained off and on the whole time we were waiting for our train to come too.

We were having a lot of fun up until the second time it rained and the clouds gave us the hint that it was going to continue to rain off and on for a while.

I keep saying that if I'd done it 10 years ago, the rain wouldn't have bothered me. But we weren't the only ones that left early because of the rain. There were a few couples that were younger than us that had left due to the rain as well. And there was a number of people that got on the train the same time we did with Lolla wristbands on.

Every time I have gone to Chicago (and it's a lot)it has only rained once and it was overnight. I usually have good luck with the weather. I hope that's true for the 15th when I go.

Why did you wear sandals??? My feet would have been hurting before I even got there. I do take sandals when I stay overnight but that's only because I can go back to the hotel and change if I need to. LOL!

I sometimes leave concerts early because of the rain especially during fair concerts. I haven't had good luck with those but I should expect it because most of the time September in Michigan can be hot during the day and cold in the evening with rain....right Stacy? :)

Suzanne | 767 comments Jencey - are you referring to Kindle Unlimited in your post? Here are 4 books I looked up, that I want to get, and none of them are part of Kindle Unlimited.

Landline - Rainbow Rowell
#Scandal - Sarah Ockler
If I Stay - Gayle Forman
To All the Boys I've Loved Before - Jenny Han

Maybe because they are all new? (Well except If I Stay.) I like the idea of Kindle Unlimited, but I guess it's not good for people like me who are very picky about what books I want to read. Even just browsing around at the stuff they do offer, I didn't see many that are on my to-read list.

Just September? Not this summer! LOL! Except yesterday when it just seemed to get hotter as the night went on. But maybe that was just my house. :)

So, ok, those who know me well, know my extreme aversion to Crocs. Greg decided to order everyone in the house a pair of Crocs a couple weeks ago because they were on sale 50% off. He told me he ordered me the flip-flops and that Morgan picked out the color. When I picked Morgan up from dance camp that day, I asked her what on earth possessed her to let Greg order me a pair of Crocs! Anyway, fast forward a week or so and they come in the mail. To make him happy, I've been wearing them. He told me they would be more than comfortable to wear to Lolla, so I did. In spite of the insanely bright pink color that totally clashed with my brown and (toned down) pink striped tank. I had jeans on, so hopefully they weren't that noticeable. Anyway, they have like a grippy type of footbed that's all good and well....when your feet aren't wet! I seriously probably wouldn't have had a problem in the food department otherwise as they seemed pretty comfortable. Don't tell Greg I said so though!! :)

I realize now that I could've worn sneakers and probably been a lot more comfortable, especially as I was wearing jeans. For some reason, I was thinking that I didn't want sock tan lines which is why I went ahead with Greg's suggestion to wear the flip-flops.

And by the way - my feet froze on the train ride out there. But not on the way back because since I picked the car with the slightly loud teeny-boppers on the way there, Greg got to pick on the way back. And he picked the car with the broken A/C and the loud baby. LOL!!

So yeah, next time, I need to remember that I'm wearing jeans so I can wear sneakers!

Alright - so good random: I managed to stay busy most of the day today. But that's mostly due to a just over three hour meeting about EEOC and FMLA compliance. Not fun, but definitely informative.

Bad random: I don't know if I told you guys about my psycho ex a couple years ago or not. But basically, the guy that was living with me wasn't working out (to put it nicely and keep a long story short), so I ended it. He got all stalkerish and creepy/scary to the point where I had to get a PPO against him. Never heard from him again once it was delivered.

Yesterday, I'm sitting here at work and my phone starts ringing and the number that pops up isn't immediately recognizable, but it does look familiar. Then it occurs to me that it could've been his number, I was about 80% sure that was it. I googled it to find out it was a Verizon wireless number. Verizon is who I've had for years and when we were together, he got onto my plan. When we broke up, he got his own plan with Verizon. So that started playing havoc on my nerves and created an "I need to throw up now" feeling for me that lasted the entire day. No message was left, but it still bothered me to the point where I logged into my Verizon account to check past bills, but I could only go so far back as March 2013.

I didn't eat anything for dinner except some toast to try and calm my stomach. And I felt bad about that because Greg thawed chicken to make shredded chicken tacos for dinner because I told him I was a little more than over the ground beef tacos we'd been having at least once a week for the last month or so.

Finally, as I'm getting ready to go to bed last night, after my stomach finally calmed down a little bit, I said something to Greg about it. And also said that I wished I would have been able to look online at my account. A couple months ago, I had cleaned out all my bill files at home, realizing that I didn't need to keep all the hard copies because I could always look online. So I said I wished now that hadn't gotten rid of all that paperwork yet. He reminded me that I hadn't. We don't have a shredder, so I've been meaning to buy some wood for the fire pit and burn all this stuff, but I haven't yet. He said the stack of papers were still in the garage, he had just moved them to the back corner.

I ran out there and flipped through until I found an old bill that had both his phone and my phone on it. Sure enough, it was his number that called me yesterday. There goes the pukey stomach feeling again. Greg tried to reassure me that it was probably just a butt dial or something like that, but really? After two years? Why would he still have my number? Greg also told to not worry about it too much because he's there now. He said I shouldn't start to worry about it unless he calls again. But I can't help it, it really kind of freaks me out.

Let me just say this - the psycho ex? He had a pretty big drinking problem, also smoked pot and took prescription pain pills that weren't his. He would sometimes get so drunk that there was no talking to him if he disagreed with something you said, especially if you pissed him off. And a few days before I ended it with him, he bought a hand gun "to go shooting targets with his buddy" that I didn't know about until a few days after I ended it. All those things + his stalking = scared the crap out of me.

Tara - you remember all of that all too well I'm sure. Thank you to you and Nick for being there for me during that time.

I'm trying to convince myself that yesterday was just a one-off, but knowing how he was, it's really hard to do that. It's hard to see it as an accidental dial.

And what makes it even more strange is that I saw him, well, his truck, for the first time in almost two years a couple weeks ago. I have a couple of friends, Tara being one of them, that sees his truck from time to time around town, but I never did until a couple weeks ago. I was on my lunch and running home to get my daughter to drop her off at dance camp. I jumped on the highway at one exit to get off at the next one that was a mile away because I was pressed for time. He was going the same way as me, only he didn't get off at the exit, thankfully. I don't think he knows my car as I got a different one about a year ago, for that exact reason. And I don't know if he saw me or not, but I shrank back in my seat as soon as I saw his truck. Wrong place, wrong time for me - that's for sure.

OMG!!! He actually called you? WTH?? Why now? I think he still needs help. If he continues to call you then I would turn him in again. Also, Nick said that he can look on the City of Portage website to find your address. Hopefully he isn't that smart but just in case he is, be careful. I don't think he is playing with a full deck. I still see him all the time and I know he knows my car. I see him on Centre when he is going to his brother's house or sometimes on Sprinkle when he is going to his sister's, I assume. He is a CREEP!!! It's a good thing you have Greg living with you.

I know, that's why I unblocked it. Smh, I seriously don't think it was an accident. Especially as it was two years ago at the end of July that I ended it, and to try to be nice about it, I had told him maybe in a couple years, if he had his shit together, we could try again. Of course, that was before he went crazy...

So I went to the library the other day to pick up Girls' Night In because I requested to have it put on hold for me. I walked in, grabbed it off the shelf and started to walk away when I noticed one of the books right next to it also had my last name. I almost kept walking because there are other people in the area that share my last name and request books (I know this because I've almost walked off with their books more than once.), but something about the book made me pause and take a closer look at the person's name, probably the pink cover, and discovered that it was indeed mine.

In the second it took me to reach for the book and pull it down off the shelf, I questioned what book it was since I hadn't received another notification saying I had anything on hold. Then I see it - Driving with the Top Down by Beth Harbison. SCORE! A huge smile spreads across my face and I walk over to the check out with a little spring in my step. It's the little things. :)

I had requested that the library get the book because they didn't have it on order when I searched for it previously. They didn't waste any time either, and I was lucky enough that it came in before the email notification came out so I didn't have to make two trips to the library.

There's something about reading a library book before anyone else gets to. :)

Stacy, that's awesome! I love when the library orders books for me. I'm really behind on my reading this year, so I haven't requested any recently. But yes, I know just the feeling! One time after I got a book that they purchased for me, I saw that someone else wanted to read the book after me and put it on hold. It made me happy to know that other people will benefit from it too. :)

Nicole (nicole21) | 573 comments Anybody have ideas for "weekend" trips that I can take from the Texas panhandle? (My weekend is actually Monday and Tuesday.) Since I'm hoping not to live here for much more than a year, I want to explore as much as the area as I can while I am here. I'm thinking I should go to OKC, Albuquerque, and the major Texas cities like Dallas, Houston, and Austin. But are there things anyone recommends doing or cities to go to that one might not normally think of? I don't like sports except hockey (so I'll probably go to a Stars game) and am not much of an outdoorsy person. I do like historical sites and anything that's supposed to be haunted. Thanks!

Jill Pierson-Kennard | 36 comments Nicole- I live just south of Houston and it is probably a good 10 hour drive from the panhandle. My son and I went to New Mexico this summer. We loved Albuquerque and Santa Fe. There are a bunch of other small towns in New Mexico that looked fun to me, but not a 13 year old boy so we didn't get to visit.

Nicole (nicole21) | 573 comments Thanks Jill! So probably more than a weekend is needed for Houston unless I fly (I assume there are flights out of here). Were there any particular things in NM that you liked? A friend lives in Phoenix, so I'm hoping to meet up with her about halfway and do something fun.

Jill Pierson-Kennard | 36 comments We went hot air ballooning-saved a good $100 per person using a Living Social deal, hiked the petroglyphs, Old Albuquerque (shopping), bunches of museums. I also loved the markets with the Native Americans selling their crafts, jewelry, etc in Santa Fe.

I cannot get into Dawson's Creek. I tried! But the whining of Joey and the constant crying of Dawson just gets old. I made it through 2 and a half seasons before jumping to the end and...brace yourselves...you can see how spray tanning has taken over and made all the women on the show orange!! They look horrible!

Ok turning the last episode off...I just can't...

Right? You feel like you're doing a service to your community by requesting awesome books. :)

I wish I could help you out, Nicole. I know next to nothing about that area other than when I was 18, I went to Arizona - Grand Canyon, Tombstone, Tucson, Phoenix and Flagstaff.

LOL, never watched it. Never had the itch to, and now? I'm pretty sure I never will. :) I was never a James Vanderbeek fan.
