message 1: by Shaline (new)

Shaline Lopez | 42 comments I have a couple examples. Once, while marathoning the Mass Effect series I said "keelah se'lai" over the phone to a guest at the hotel where I work. More recently, I've been reading the Jacqueline Carey Kushiel series. Something happened to me today, and instead of "thank goodness" I caught myself saying "blessed Elua!"

terpkristin | 4407 comments I've caught myself thinking (if not saying out loud) "Blood and bloody ashes." In fairness, I've used "bloody" more regularly than an American should, given the amount of time I spent in the UK over the last few years, but I don't think this is related. :D I think I could much more likely blame it on listening to WoT books as I've been falling asleep.

message 3: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) | 2702 comments I say "frak" a lot. I feel like that will be a common answer. I feel like I've used Mass Effect words before. Likely "keelah" or "bosh'tet".

message 4: by Trike (new)

Trike | 11210 comments Ch'rowl prret.

Zug zug!

Bantha poodoo!

message 5: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 4 comments If I really get into a series that unique curses I have a tendency to pick those up, but I usually just find myself thinking them, not saying them. Right now I've been using "By Mar!" from the Riyria books, but I've reread Robin Hobb's Farseer and Tawny Man trilogies so many times that I constantly get the curses with those gods stuck in my head, one of the more memorable ones is "Eda's tits!"

message 6: by Serendi (new)

Serendi | 848 comments Well, grok, of course.

message 7: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 53 comments I have been known to describe an ex-girlfriend as the Ka Faraq Gatri...

message 8: by Isaiah (new)

Isaiah | 74 comments My friends and I used Dark Tower lingo for quite awhile after reading those books. "Do ye ken?", "Thankee, sai.", etc. If one of us did something the others considered in bad form or dumb, we told that person he had forgotten the face of his father and should be sent west.

message 9: by Ryne (last edited Jan 14, 2014 06:34AM) (new)

Ryne | 68 comments I've used Shisno from RvB.

message 10: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 105 comments I say frak all the frakking time.

message 11: by ladymurmur (new)

ladymurmur | 151 comments Hey, you sass that hoopy Ford Prefect? There's a frood who really knows where his towel is.

:-)

message 12: by Ty (new)

Ty Wilson (ShatterStar66) | 165 comments I've done it many times in my life going all the way back to shazbot and nanu nanu from Mork and Mindy. My brother and I took great pride in having conversations at the dinner table that our parents could not understand. Sometimes we still do it when the family is together and it still drives our parents crazy.

message 13: by David(LA,CA) (new)

David(LA,CA) (davidscharf) | 327 comments Noy Jitat!
Frak me!

Gorramit, I have a filthy fictional mouth.

message 14: by Sophie (new)

Sophie Anderson (shinimegami23) | 39 comments I say Frak all the time since watching Battlestar. I'll also say "shiny" for all good from Firefly.

Occasionally I'll use "Dong ma?" with other Firefly fans that will get it, but not many people understand that one.

message 15: by Jeremiah (new)

Jeremiah Kaye | 3 comments Yes I do and the idea is clearly big in France (Academe 42)I think it makes life more fun.

message 16: by Baelor (new)

Baelor | 169 comments Valar morghulis

message 17: by Ewan (new)

Ewan (ewanreads) | 94 comments Me and my friends use shiny alot and frak is another staple. As for books, I use WOT exclamations all the time, but usually in a kind of jokey way with people who get the reference.

Me and my brother bounce book references and TV references constantly so we end up using them in private way way more than is healthy.

message 18: by Micah (new)

Micah (onemorebaker) | 1071 comments Like a lot of us I use FRAK quite often. However I also like to use Gods Damnit from BSG too because you know...it's funnier when it's plural.

message 19: by Robert (new)

Robert (lostzeppo) | 12 comments Used to use 'frak' a lot, and 'Gorram', not so much these days as I haven't watched BSG since the finale. And I'm overdue a Firefly rewatch marathon. I'll probably do that this year to get me in the mood for the Firefly RPG.

message 20: by terpkristin (new)

terpkristin | 4407 comments I've used "Lem" in my non-S&L life. ;)

Words With Friends keeps telling me it isn't a real word!

message 21: by Leesa (new)

Leesa (leesalogic) | 675 comments There was a Stargate: SG1 episode where the crew ends up in a place where there's jolly guy who says "kum-tri-ya!" (I have no idea how it is spelled). I sometimes say that.

I've often used phrases from King's Dark Tower series, "you have forgotten the face of your father" "I shoot with my mind, not with my gun" "ka" "ka-tet" etc.

I also sometimes say "Ka-plah!" (again, no idea how it is spelled) from Star Trek: TNG.

message 22: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Ashley Roberts | 65 comments I some times say 'shiny' but then I get depressed because I miss firefly

message 23: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Knighton | 158 comments I use the occasional 'shiny' in honour of Firefly and when I'm too tired to think of a more specific positive word. The occasional bit of Yoda grammar too, when bored or incapable of thinking straight.

message 24: by Mark (new)

Mark Kaye | 123 comments Frak. I say it all the time lol.

message 25: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 53 comments When I was at school, I used to call people "smeghead" a lot. Then I actually looked up "smeg" in a dictionary. Yeah... sorry, Doug.

message 26: by Tom (new)

Tom Allman I say "Grok" a lot. Coined by Heinlein, meaning to understand completely.

message 27: by Adam (new)

Adam Gutschenritter (heregrim) | 121 comments Not quite the same thing, but I have got my entire school I teach at using "Dead Tree edition" and "Lemming"

message 28: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 235 comments I like Frak. But I also like Frelling. They work Frelling well together.

message 29: by Kurt (new)

Kurt Rocourt (krocourt) | 53 comments Frak, yeah Toaster!

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments Leebossa from The Secret Language (in third grade, don't judge) and the "howling fantods' from Infinite Jest, although I usually misuse it.
