I completely agree, Rachel. It ended how it needed to.

You've got to remember Katniss lost her father at a young age. She's living in a world where she could lose her mother, sister, everyone she loves just as easily. That wouldn't exactly make me happy all the time, having that knowledge hanging over my head. She's then thrust into a barbaric propaganda campaign and is being used by the Capitol, basically as their puppet. That would put a lot of strain on both a body and a mind. Then she's nominated as the face of a rebellion and reminded on a daily basis how she could lose everything she holds dear, even her own life. But she keeps fighting.

Selfish (Trying to survive in a bloodthirsty world; your survival means the survival of your family)? Moody (she's suffered and knows she may suffer more loss and pain and heartache)? Sulking (maybe not the right word for PTSD, but alright)? Considering what she's gone through, I'd say she has a right.

Elly, the Martian The ending was what made everything feel real. I liked it, even thou' I loved the people who died, but it can't be a freaking disneymovie. I think it was great! The author knew exactly how to put it and I liked it! Katniss & Peeta all the way!

Kate I don't really understand the anger over the ending. It wasn't perfect obviously. Nothing ever is. But Prim's death and Finnick's death enforce the idea that sometimes terrible things happen in life. And you have to figure out how to move on. For people who say, "Oh, but she could have just killed Prim. Why Finnick?" Because sometimes more than one terrible event will happen. What, an author can only kill one main character? No. Sometimes people die. It's terrible. It's sad. It happens. It was a war. How realistic is it that Katniss would only lose one person close to her?

I'm not sure more explanation about the relationship between Katniss and Peeta would have fit very well with the rest of the story. I mean, what do you want? Picnics in the meadow? Peeta reading poetry? It was a very dark book.

And as for Katniss's vote regarding the Hunger Games, she does think something that made it obvious to me that there was more going on than simple yes vote. I don't remember the exact line but she does think something that clearly indicates that she thinks she needs to trick Coin. She was immediately disgusted by the idea of the Hunger Games when Coin suggested it. So it was obvious to me all along that she never actually intended for the Games to take place, even though she doesn't specifically state her reason for lying to Coin.

Yes yes yes. Absolutely.

Nour El Houda Ziani Personally, I loved the book, it was very dark, and horrible things happened, lots of people died, but it was perfect, I mean it's about war, these things were meant to happen. I loved the ending too, it was bittersweet, it wasn't a HAPPY ending nor a very sad ending, it left me empty though.
The only thing I didn't like was the fact that she didn't choose Peeta, really. I do believe she loved him, even more than Gale, there are a lot of signs that prove it (Their kisses made her feel something Gale never made her feel. She also went crazy when he was captured). But it just feels like she ended up with him because he was the only one left, or because HE came back to her. I know she said she was waiting for something and I assume it was Peeta but I really wanted her to choose him over Gale.
Peeta is my favorite character and I think he deserves so much better, I mean he deserves to be chosen.
And like someone else said I really wanted him to give us some great Quote at the end.
Am I wrong or has he never told her he loved her?? He never said "I love you". Katniss always said he was good with words, but he didn't need words to show her he loves her. Which means he's good at everything. Peeta all the way.

Kate Here's what Katniss is thinking just before she votes yes:

"Was it like this then? Seventy-five years or so ago?...Did someone make a case for mercy that was beaten down by the calls for the deaths of the districts' children? The scent of Snow's rose curls up into my nose, down into my throat, squeezing it tight with despair. All those people I loved, dead, and we are discussing the next Hunger Games in an attempt to avoid wasting life. Nothing has changed. Nothing will ever change now."

Her thoughts are jumbled a bit but it seemed pretty clear to me that she didn't actually want a new Hunger Games.

Anastasia (view spoiler) That is my personal opinion of why we have a love hate relationship between the book and I.

Agreed!

Can Peeta have 2 girlfriends? because I'm his girlfriend too :P We can share :)

2017niaw Seriously why is everyone so mad about the end of the book sure it was unexpected but that's what made it good if it was a bad book it would have ended with the ending everybody thought it was going to end with.
