Have you read "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote?

"In Cold Blood" set the bar for modern day true crime books. It utilizes the tools of fiction to tell an engaging story. Do you prefer this technique? Why or why not?

Yes, and I agree that In Cold Blood is the gold standard in not only true crime but non-fiction in general. A superb book.

I've read it twice. Truman Capote is one of my favorite writers. Such a contrast, from In Cold Blood to The Grass Harp ( for an example) .
He had such a magical way of putting you in the house with the Clutter family , but also riding in the back seat with the killers.
At the beginning, you already know what is going to happen, and you just wanna yell to the people RUN !!! Get out of the house !!
A terrific book !

I have not read it yet, but I think it will be next on my list. I'm currently reading "A Murder in Wellesley" by Tom Farmer and Marty Foley.

The book compares to the Onion Field by Joseph Wambaugh - both are excellent! Same style - back and forth from the criminals to the farm family with In Cold Blood and the same with the criminals and two cops in The Onion Field.

one of my favorite books. just started re-reading after many years. i was in my 20s when i first read it. it changed my life i lost my sense of innocence after reading this. he is such a great writer in my opinion.

I read it many moons ago and it is in the queue to re-read. I recently read another landmark true crime book, The Onion Field which I had not read before.
