Yep - I want to read Captive in the Dark too but I know I'm gonna have to wait for a while after I finish this trilogy :)

Nichole | 1010 comments Hmmm... well I had Consequences (Consequences, #1) by Aleatha Romig on my shelf and it was picked for me. I chose another pick instead but now I'm reconsidering it. For some reason I like effed up characters. Maybe like isn't the right word, but I'm drawn to them. Take Undeniable (Undeniable, #1) by Madeline Sheehan for example, I didn't like it and yet I devoured the book and gave it 4 stars. It was a mess, but it got reactions out of me. I'm gonna have to think on this.

message 303: by Chris (new)

Chris Winkler | 3 comments I have read the whole series of the consequence's series a very good read indeed. I am waiting until all 3 of the behind his eyes books are out before I read them. Not until may from what I have read will probably re read the series before starting them though so I can refresh my memory

You will definitely have reactions to Consequences - I promise. There is no way to read this without having reactions, lol. Very STRONG reactions!! I haven't read Undeniable yet - it's on the TBR mountain :D

I wasn't impressed with Captive in the Dark, so many of my friends loved it though. I didn't see the draw.

Now, Tears of Tess, I thought was a much better dark read. But a lot of my friends didn't like it. Go figure. LOL

message 306: by Dami (new)

Dami (Damiellar) (damiella) | 15 comments I started and abandoned Consequences a while ago myself (not the right time) so it wasn't on my picklist but after all the conversation about it I'm thinking I need to go back to it this month.

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments After all these comments on Consequences, I am sure I won't be reading it. I am such a wimp ;)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments ...Now, which book to read from my beautiful list??...

Audio - is definitely The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (Millennium, #3) by Stieg Larsson
Book - maybe Curran, Vol. I (Curran POV, #1) by Gordon Andrews ?

message 309: by Christina (new)

Christina (christinaovallsbooks) | 384 comments Read Curran. I won't take you very long to read, but I loved reading these little snipets from his point of view.

I haven't read the third one yet. Hmmm audio - might be the way to go. I could listen while I work.
♥ Curran. Either way I'm sure will be good Jane :)

message 313: by Gianna (new)

Gianna | 289 comments I have a quick question!

One of the picks for me is Bloodlines. Since this book is the first in a series that is a spinoff of Vampire Academy and I haven't read that series yet, can I swap it for Frostbite? At the time I put Bloodlines on my shelf I hadn't realized that series comes after Vampire Academy.

message 314: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Hi Gianna

This is the last rule of the challenge...

* If a book from a series is recommended but it is not the next book for the reader in that series, please feel free to substitute the appropriate book for that recommendation.

I have done this a couple of times but the next book in the series has always been on my pick list. I would suggest that you are fine to substitute but you should just let your picker know that you intend to read that earlier book and that you hadn't realised that the reading order required this earlier book.

Thank you! I thought I was reading the rules right but I wanted to be absolutely sure. Rather be safe than sorry. I do definitely want to read both series though. But I'll let the picker know!

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) Just a quick reminder: Elizabeth and I are buddy reading The Strange Case of Finley Jayne today for a buddy read. As of 3 hours ago or so, Elizabeth was already 33% into the book and mentioned in our buddy read thread that it was a quick read! On the 5th, we'll be following up with The Girl in the Steel Corset. I hope you ladies can fit them into your challenges and join us!

Larissa Brown (larissabrown) | 25 comments Darn, I did not know about Consequences when I signed up for this challenge, but I just started reading it thanks to your conversation. So that's one non-challenge book on my nook already in February! I am liking it, but feel like it's dragging a bit in the middle. My status update is "Waiting for the mindf***." I'm trying to guess what this big ending is that all the reviews talk about. But at the same time, I don't want to know. I'll probably finish it tonight.

message 321: by ⚜️XAR (new)

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) Finished my first book today: The Strange Case of Finley Jayne. I was frankly surprised by it. It was my first full introduction to Steampunk, as I haven't been able to read any others before this one, though I have looked at or skimmed a couple of others in the library. The book had a nice air of mystery throughout it, and just sucked me in right from the get go. I enjoyed it so much I will be recommending it to my daughter!

Success! I finished a book already, too - a novella, so it was quick. A Duchess in the Dark. It was sweet but very standard for a historical romance plot. I don't think I'd recommend it unless a reader needed something super easy in between heavier books.

message 323: by Dami (last edited Feb 02, 2014 02:48PM) (new)

Dami (Damiellar) (damiella) | 15 comments I've just finished my first book as well Untamed Hunger. It was ok. I think it's one of those books that looks better before you dive in. There were some interesting ideas but I got the feeling they could have been better developed. Quick read though. Thanks for getting it moving Anayh!

message 326: by Jojo (new)

Jojo | 1010 comments Successful weekend - I've managed to finish 2 books Checkmate and Texas Hold 'Em. I really enjoyed both of them, they're very light hearted and upbeat, so I may have to read a different type next.

Hi Jane, you don't have to post reviews for this challenge. Most of us come back here to comment that we read a specific book and perhaps add a few thoughts about it, but it isn't a requirement. It is also nice to thank the person who suggested the book for you too, even if it wasn't a favorite they motivated you to get off your TBR and that is always a good thing!

message 330: by Jane (new)

Jane Doe | 125 comments Oh okay sounds good I'm going to add my reviews because it explains why I liked or didn't like the book.

Melissa-thanks for the push I love this series and it will be a keeper for me.
Dark Wolf 5 stars

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 4192 comments @Dami: I finished Jungle Freakn' Bride--It definitely wasn't my favorite of this series, but I'm still going to continue with the series. I'm glad you finally got me to read it. Eve Langlais is one of my favorite authors.

@~Melissa~: I finished The Gift--it was such a great introduction to the Original Sinners series. I'm pretty sure this was out of order, but I liked the short novella to introduce me to what I was in store for. For some reason, I've been hesitant to start this series, but now I'm really looking forward to starting it.

It's urban fantasy. I love them. The romance is a slow boil - I'm only up to book 3 and not much has happened yet between Kate and Curran. But there is friction - *mmmm*

It is excellent - definitely my favorite UF series. The world building is detailed and engrossing, the plots are intelligent and action packed, and Kate and Curran are incredible - they have the best banter.
Can you tell I love this series?

I thought this series was finished but when I looked it up there are still books coming out...I have the first one but have heard that one of the later books had such a bad ending people were really annoyed??? I intensely dislike reading something that leaves me hanging!! Or kills off someone just to do it. You said you love this series, is there anything to what I have heard, in your opinion?

message 339: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) @Jane - without giving too much away, there were some things in the latest book, Magic Rises, that bothered some readers. Personally, the things that irritated them were, to me, well in line with ongoing storylines and character development. While some characters met their end, I don't think that it was just so that the authors could kill someone off.

Also, there are no cliffhangers in the series, so far.

A book series can become stale if nothing changes and everything remains the same - this is definitely not the case with Kate Daniels. IMO, everything happens for a reason - we, as readers, may not see it at first but it is there nonetheless.

I must caution you - the first & second book are just okay. It's work really to make your way through it. The third and fourth kersplodes. Seriously. KER. SPLODES.

Christina (christinaovallsbooks) | 384 comments @Lauren - I agree with you on the latest Kate Daniels book. I liked the book very much and didn't think there were any inconsistencies in tge story. I will admit that the first book was not great, but still worth reading. I'm thinking about rereading the first few since I'm sure I'll find something that I didn't catch the first time. I listened to them in audio and thought that the narrator did a great job.

I also listened to the audio and loved Renee Raudman's narration. It took me a while to get used to it but now I'm amazed at her vocal versatility.

Yes, the first book was 4 stars for me. It takes time to get into all the world building but everything is slowly revealed and explained. By book #3 I was totally hooked.

Hadley | 68 comments Have finished 2 books so far, Tina Backstage Pass (Sinners on Tour, #1) by Olivia Cunning and Mandy The Scientist and the Supermodel (Genetic Attraction, #1) by Tara Lain , thank you soooo much for your choices. Both these books have been on my TBR shelf for ages.

message 348: by Becky (new)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1573 comments I read my first book for this challenge yesterday, How to Misbehave. It was both hot and sweet, just exactly what you want from a romance novella. Thanks, Beth!

Now I'm working on Stars & Stripes. It's the 6th book in a series focused around the same couple, and the first book written solo. (The first five were written by a pair of authors, and one decided to retire from writing.) Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm not far enough in yet, but these guys don't feel like the same Ty & Zane. On the other hand, some of the things that really used to bug me about previous books by this writing duo seem to be missing, so....

message 350: by Cassia (new)

Cassia @Beth--I finished Inside Out (Brown Siblings, #3) by Lauren Dane . It was SO good. Cope is definitely my favorite in the Brown Sibling series. Thanks for picking it!

@Chris--I'm getting ready to start Captive in the Dark (The Dark Duet, #1) by C.J. Roberts . It's my first dark read but I've heard it's good. So I'm excited to start it.
