Regency rage ...?

Soooo....does it seem to anyone else like Regency fiction has suddenly become the new fad genre that everyone is crazy about right now- or is it that I've become such a freak for it recently and I'm simply discovering how big it already was? It just seems like ever since I got interested in it and found a bunch of friends who are also interested, it's EVERYWHERE.

Alice, I feel the same way!!! :D I am just starting to really get into Regency fiction and I seem to be finding people who love it everywhere!! :) I don't know if it was a big thing before I discovered the genre either...I'm very new to Regency romances!

I feel the same way but I think it was already a big thing, thanks to Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer and the like. Now we are into it we just pay attention more to it, because we are interested and probably even go looking for it more as well. It's been a popular genre for a while I believe.( Then again I could be making that up!)

That would make sense Sophie! I know a lot of Regency romances were being published in the 70's-80's, so it was probably popular before I started to notice it!

Yes - I mean Jane Austen has been popular and inspiring people for a lot longer than we have been alive for ;) so I think it is that we just have not noticed until we became part of it ourselves!

That's right! ;) And I think it especially became popular when Georgette Heyer started writing, since she basically invented the genre of Regency romance :)

Hi girls. Yes, there do seem to be fans coming out of the woodwork recently. Maybe it has to do with the bicentenary of Jane Austen's death and the publicity it got last year? I know that when I tried to get my Regency romance book published a couple of years ago, I was given the impression by several agents and publishers that Regency Romance was on the decline and they weren't interested. But with self-publishing becoming big business these days, maybe all the RegRom authors are building a new wave of Regency rage all by themselves?

That's a great way to put it, 'comfort reads'! I know when I need cheering up or want to escape to a fun, happy place I reach for Heyer or Austen. I'm guaranteed a happy ending with a good dosing of witty dialogue :)

My favourite author is Georgette Heyer, and if you haven't tried her I strongly recommend that you do! :) The best place to start with her is by reading her Regency romances (she wrote historical fiction and mysteries too). So far I've loved The Nonesuch, Sprig Muslin, These Old Shades (Georgian) and Devil's Cub (Georgian). I haven't yet read her more popular Regency ones, but usually Arabella, The Grand Sophy and Frederica are considered good places to start :)
As I am new to the Regency genre, I haven't read that many different authors, but I recently discovered Diane Farr, and her novels The Nobody and Once Upon A Christmas were awesome! Amanda Grange is another good Regency author (she wrote the Austen heroes diaries), and I am sure there are many more!

HI!! Welcome to the group! :D OH wow so many regency authors! Heidi Ashworth, Julianne Donaldson, Georgette Heyer, Sarah M. Eden, Sheri Cobb South are my favs.
