I think the hype for A Court of Thorns and Roses (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #1) by Sarah J. Maas came from the fact that people loved the author's Throne of Glass series so much. But I've been realizing more and more that book hype is often generated by writers, publishers, etc. to get people to buy their books. Can't blame them for that. Trying to stand out in a sea of a million books is hard. And it's hard to figure out what you're going to wind up liking even if you go off of other people's reviews because people's tastes vary so widely.

I don't think I'm going to read Pucked Up (Pucked, #2) by Helena Hunting . I like Pucked, but I like it as a stand alone and I don't know if I feel like reading more of the same.

What???? I love Carmack. Ok, so I wasn't a huge fan of her first book, but the series definitely got better as it went on and I really enjoyed the second and third (the novellas were just meh for me). But the Rusk series. OMGOSH it's SOOOOOOO GOOD!!! GO GO GO!

Hey, can't like every book, I guess. And, yes, I totally agree that the hype was because of ToG. BUT I know so many people who just LOVED this book. I guess I just wasn't one of them. ToG has so much action, this is a very slow build. Like painfully slow for me. Also, this was an earlier work of hers that the publisher picked up after ToG was published (and did well). So there's that. I do think the editing could have been so much tighter on this one, making it a bit less slow (and predictable). I'll still read the next one, though I'm not rushing to read it like I do the ToG series as they come out. I read QoT in a day (and it's 600+ pages!).

I've had so little time for reading that it's sad, but I finished My Soul to Keep (Soul, #1) by Kennedy Ryan for blog review and it was good. Musician romance story, and I can't say it was something entirely new and different, but I ended up really liking it. Up next is Whipped (Wild Riders #2) by Elizabeth Lee , which I'm excited for because Elizabeth is always a fave and I really loved the first in this series!

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1075 comments I finished The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, #1) by Rick Riordan 4 stars. This was not my fave Rick Riordan, but I still loved the book! It was a nice switch up to learn more about Norse Mythology, something a little different. I really liked the MC, Magnus, and his band of weirdo followers. The story wasn't as action packed as Percy Jackson, and didn't read quite as quick, but still a good read.

Yeah Garrett was a little disappointing 'but I didn't hate it, there was just a lot of frustrating moments and I personally think lazy writing when it came to the 'complications' in the romance - also it was major Insta-love which always bugs me
