My issue with Bella wasn't around the "damsel in distress" it was more around the unhealthy relationship with Edward. She meets a guy and suddenly he literally becomes her whole world. I mean she becomes catatonic after a guy whom she'd known for a couple of months broke up with her (she was catatonic for longer then the actual relationship). Regardless of gender that's not healthy.

The whole wanting to prove Bella wasn't a damsel in distress explaination is just bull anyway. Lets face it the real reason she released the book was for more money.

Is it really a reimagining if the story line is exactly the same and you just change the names of the characters?

I have to admit I only got about a third of the way into the first Twilight book because of this exact reason, that plus Meyer's horribly juvenile and cliched writing was just too much for me to overcome

Apart from the whole money-grabbing thing - which really if people are obsessed enough to pay that much of course she's going to take advantage - my issue from a writer's perspective is that releasing this 'reimagining' that's apparently the exact same story from a reverse gender perspective makes it look as though she's not happy with her original story ...even though I hated it, millions of people loved Twilight, she should be proud of it and let it stand as it is...if she wants to muck around with different characters and genders why not just write a novella like so many other authors do and at least come up with a new plot line

I wish she would have done someting different like release Midnight Sun or something other than this. Its getting slammed and not in a good way LOL, I would say people are buying it up but Ive only seen a few that actually say "verified Purchase" on the Amazon reviews. So I'm guessing its getting passed around ...

I think had she wrote a novella or something different like she did with the novella of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner (Twilight, #3.5) by Stephenie Meyer I mean this was just out of nowhere but it was still an ok read. Anyhoo had she done something like this I would have bought it no question but seeing as its just "Fan Fic" as most reviews are saying it is Im not going to bother.I liked Twilight it got me back into reading so I can thank her for that and I didnt mind the story it wasnt so bad Ive read worse. (even the unhealthy relationship)

message 22559: by Laura (new)

Laura (llbasaldua) | 790 comments YAY for me I finally finished Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo I gave it 3 stars. Its not a bad story but it does drag and I found that once you learn about a character thats it they have nothing more to offer. Besides Jesper you do learn more about him but he is the only one and the Audio seriously did NOT need SEVEN Narrators!

or The Paper Swan by Leylah Attar

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1075 comments Finished The Heir (The Selection, #4) by Kiera Cass 4 stars. I actually liked this one much better than the first 3. Something about this MC...really makes it fascinating. Maxon was too perfect IMO, and America was sometimes an idiot. I really like Eadalyn, even though she's a spoiled brat. I also see her viewpoint, and I love that she realizes just how ridiculous the whole Selection is!

Next up is A Cold Legacy (The Madman's Daughter, #3) by Megan Shepherd

Unfortunately there's a lot of unhealthy relationships in books being written these days:( I agree with you that this was all about money.

message 22564: by Lyn (new)

Lyn Mckenzie | 9 comments I have got all of the Twilight books and I have read them all, I did this when they first came out and I did enjoy them but no way in hell would I be reading this book, I couldn't quite believe it when reading she had done this. I agree with everyone else. Start something new

message 22565: by Liv (new)

Liv | 31 comments I heard about this book yesterday and I am not sure if I am going to read it or not. I am curious but when it's exactly the same story then I wouldn't want to read it. I would prefer to re-read the original twilight instead of this one.

I think it's a pity that she didn't write The host 2 or finish up midnight sun. I would have definitly bought either of those instead of this reimagining

Despite all the hype about the new S. Meyer book, I will probably get a copy. I saw it in the store yesterday, but couldn't bring myself to pay full price. I think I'll wait until I see a copy in the Annex. Just to have a complete collection. Not sure I'll be reading. Honestly, Twilight kind of rekindled my love for reading (as it did for so many). I don't think the writing was great, now that I look back at it after having read so much stuff that's better. But I can't deny that I tore through the books (I think I read them all in just a few days, could not put them down at the time). Yes, it's cheesy. Yes, the relationship is really not healthy. But I still remember loving the story at the time. JMO.

Finished Dissonance (Dissonance, #1) by Erica O'Rourke and I liked it enough. I thought it was a bit confusing at times. I would give it 3.5. Going to read the novella Harmonic (Dissonance, #1.5) by Erica O'Rourke today. Then I have to start Persuasion (The Heirs of Watson Island, #2) by Martina Boone

Zachary Flye (flyezachary93) | 11 comments Just finished Ruin and Rising (The Grisha, #3) by Leigh Bardugo which I loved so much more than Siege and Storm, and am about to start (or really continue as I have already read the first six chapters) The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, #1) by Rick Riordan . And I'm still reading/rereading The Shadow Queen (Ravenspire, #1) by C.J. Redwine and Kiss of Fire (Imdalind, #1) by Rebecca Ethington bit by bit between books.

I loved the Twilight series just the way it was which is why I'm not feeling the whole gender bender thing. This Twilight Reimagined is Amazon's #1 book right now which as a reader surprises me. Why do people want to pay $13 for something they've basically already read when there are like a million other books out there at a much better price point that you haven't read?

It was so freakin predictable I knew what was going to happen before it happened. It was all so obvious and all that Drama over what? They knew each other like a minute minus the sex. Meh I wont be reading any more in this series.

On a good note I just pre ordered my Audio of Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) by Marissa Meyer so Im a happy camper.

Now Im going to start Snow Like Ashes (Snow Like Ashes, #1) by Sara Raasch

Agreed Laura. I actually loved Twilight :) yeah I know, LOL! But I read it when it came out along with my 2 daughters and sisters and we had a blast! And we went together to see the movies :D so it was a whole "girl" moment for us and all. So I'd honestly be buying and reading this new book if like Laura points out, was something new. That would add a new angle or story to the existing one, but a retelling? Just rehashing the same story, um no. I would've LOVED LOVED it if she just finished and released Midnight Sun! That would be great.
