Is it really a reimagining if the story line is exactly the same and you just change the names of the characters?

Next month E.L. James will release a "reimagining" of the classic series 50 Shades of Grey. Ana will now be a shy college student guy named Alex and Christian will be a dominant female CEO named Christine.

I have to admit I only got about a third of the way into the first Twilight book because of this exact reason, that plus Meyer's horribly juvenile and cliched writing was just too much for me to overcome
Apart from the whole money-grabbing thing - which really if people are obsessed enough to pay that much of course she's going to take advantage - my issue from a writer's perspective is that releasing this 'reimagining' that's apparently the exact same story from a reverse gender perspective makes it look as though she's not happy with her original story ...even though I hated it, millions of people loved Twilight, she should be proud of it and let it stand as it is...if she wants to muck around with different characters and genders why not just write a novella like so many other authors do and at least come up with a new plot line

I wish she would have done someting different like release Midnight Sun or something other than this. Its getting slammed and not in a good way LOL, I would say people are buying it up but Ive only seen a few that actually say "verified Purchase" on the Amazon reviews. So I'm guessing its getting passed around ...
I think had she wrote a novella or something different like she did with the novella of

Unfortunately there's a lot of unhealthy relationships in books being written these days:( I agree with you that this was all about money.

I think it's a pity that she didn't write The host 2 or finish up midnight sun. I would have definitly bought either of those instead of this reimagining

From what I understand Host 2 is still being written or has that changed now?
Despite all the hype about the new S. Meyer book, I will probably get a copy. I saw it in the store yesterday, but couldn't bring myself to pay full price. I think I'll wait until I see a copy in the Annex. Just to have a complete collection. Not sure I'll be reading. Honestly, Twilight kind of rekindled my love for reading (as it did for so many). I don't think the writing was great, now that I look back at it after having read so much stuff that's better. But I can't deny that I tore through the books (I think I read them all in just a few days, could not put them down at the time). Yes, it's cheesy. Yes, the relationship is really not healthy. But I still remember loving the story at the time. JMO.
Finished
and I liked it enough. I thought it was a bit confusing at times. I would give it 3.5. Going to read the novella
today. Then I have to start

Yeah, I pretty much had the same experience with those books, I'm getting the flip book, today actually, I'll be interested to see if the whole gender bent thing will change my opinion in any way.

I hope it's still being written. But it's been so long now without new information about it.
I just hoped it would be her next printed book. I am disappointed that she didn't finish that up before she rewrote twilight...

I really hope its being written too cos I loved The Host. It really has been a long time sine The Host was released...Fingers crossed its still being written

Unless she took some writing classses, i'm doubtful. And everyone says it's the same story line. So there's that.

I loved the Twilight series just the way it was which is why I'm not feeling the whole gender bender thing. This Twilight Reimagined is Amazon's #1 book right now which as a reader surprises me. Why do people want to pay $13 for something they've basically already read when there are like a million other books out there at a much better price point that you haven't read?

Haha no it's not happening (I don't think). I'm assuming you're an Aussie from the "taking the piss" phrase.

Love that book Donna! Didn't love book 2 so I haven't continued the series but book 4 is about Criminy and Tish again so I gotta read them just for that.

I didn't mind the Host. Her writting is not the best, but I enjoyed the storyline. The movie wasn't too bad either. If she wrote The Host 2 I'd probably give it a go.

Agree I liked the Host. Dont really think it needs a sequel but Ehh I'd read it. I think they did a pretty great job with the movie adaption and obviously they are making a Host 2 movie so Im sure thats why she is writing another book.

I enjoyed book 1 of Wicked as They Come. The other books I did not care for. I am looking forward to book 4.

On a good note I just pre ordered my Audio of

Now Im going to start

Really liked Blud!! I havent read any further though. I have the Novellas and the other books on my list but havent moved forward I think because they books are of other characters/new people? Didnt realize there was another book coming out that is with Tish and Criminy

Laura I completely agree with everything you said. I would buy The Host 2 or Mdnight Sun but let's leave Twilight alone and leave it be. It made her very successful. Lol, it's a far cry from being a "classic" next we'll call Miley Cyrus a "legend" bahahahaha
Finished Harmonic which was a really great novella! Such a great inside look into Addie! Then I started Persuasion. It's a bit slow going, but so was the first book. So we shall see.

So far it's great. I will definitely read the others, even though it seems like it's not as good.

YES!!! So excited for the release! I've been re-listening to the IAD, getting myself psyched for

Oh I will definitely need to check this out :D well scratch that then :/ I guess I won't need to check it out, sigh.. What a letdown.

LOL! Agreed MadameZelda that's a bit much. But, sigh, that's been my qualm with ebook prices in general. I honestly can't see how they can charge more than $5 for an ebook. Period.

Agreed Laura. I actually loved Twilight :) yeah I know, LOL! But I read it when it came out along with my 2 daughters and sisters and we had a blast! And we went together to see the movies :D so it was a whole "girl" moment for us and all. So I'd honestly be buying and reading this new book if like Laura points out, was something new. That would add a new angle or story to the existing one, but a retelling? Just rehashing the same story, um no. I would've LOVED LOVED it if she just finished and released Midnight Sun! That would be great.

Uh, that sucks :$ oh well I do have the audio and was so excited over the promise of this story that I will probably read it, I just won't rush to get to it. Thanks Laura.

or

Oh I loved SLA Laura. I'm really looking forward to book 2. Let me know how you like PS if you end up getting to it soon. I have it in my kindle and very much want to read it. Looks like a fantastic story.

Yes most definitely Liv. SM could've made much better use of her time and effort for sure.

My issue with Bella wasn't around the "damsel in distress" it was more around the unhealthy relationship with Edward. She meets a guy and suddenly he literally becomes her whole world. I mean she becomes catatonic after a guy whom she'd known for a couple of months broke up with her (she was catatonic for longer then the actual relationship). Regardless of gender that's not healthy.
The whole wanting to prove Bella wasn't a damsel in distress explaination is just bull anyway. Lets face it the real reason she released the book was for more money.
