Yep Ash, that's how I knew it to work too. That's how it works for me since I have both a Kindle account and an Audible account. I can go back and forth from the ebook to the audio (back & forth) without loosing my place in book or audio. That's what Amazon is calling "Whispersync". It's awesome that you can add the audio to lots of ebooks you buy for cheap. I've been able to buy a ton of cheap audios this way.

You should look into the free month promotion they were offering. See if they're still running it. Also there's other audio websites that offer cheaper monthly rates for audio memberships that you can try a trail to see if you like audios. Also lots of libraries are offering audiobooks now. You should check that out ;)

You dont have to on pay for audible, you can just buy the books at normal price. But for i think 15$ a month you get one credit that gets you one audio book for free and then you get discounts on others.

We don't have access to the library any more. I will look into how the audible works. I have heard conflicting reviews. I didn't know there were other audio sites. I thought audible ruled that area. I will check more on things. Thanks ladies :-)

I don't listen to my audiobooks from my Kindle Touch either Tracy. I have the audible app on my iPhone and had it on my Samsung Galaxy before that to listen to my audiobooks it's easier and more portable since the phone has a lot of memory and it's way lighter than a tablet or even a kindle :)

Audible has different membership subscriptions but no matter which one you choose, as a member you get loads of deals and discounts. Honestly, I have the audible membership out of ease and convenience since I'm a total Amazon fanatic LOL! I have a huge kindle cloud of like 6k ebooks over the many years, Amazon prime membership because hello free shipping! and also tons of great deals and perks including kindle first which gives you specially offered first dibs on selected new releases before releasing to the public and for free, an Amazon Reward credit card which gives me purchasing points for buying free stuff, and the Whispersync option between the audio and ebooks with many at super discounted pricing, and everything shows up cohesively in my library since they're both linked in my Amazon account. Everything nice and tidy. I opted to go with the once a year membership because it ends up being the better deal. At $229.50 I get 24 credits to use whenever I want throughout the year which breaks-down the price of each audiobook to be $9.56 but I save them and will only use one of my credits to buy the expensive audiobooks LOL! So if an audiobook is priced between $14-$30 I'll use a credit to buy it. But for any audiobook that's priced under $9 I won't a credit. I'll wait for it to go on sale and then just buy it. And they do have lots of special pricing for members. Especially once the system syncs in and they realize that you own the ebook for a particular audiobook, you'll see the special discounted price displayed for you in case you want to "add the whispersync" because you already own the kindle book. Other times it'll offer special pricing once you click on an audiobook by stating "you can buy the audio for $1.99 if you purchase the kindle version" and you can link into the Kindle Amazon page and see what the price is for the ebook. In those cases you'll still get both at a cheaper price than what the audiobook retails for because if the ebook ends up being priced for lets say $2.99 & the audio "whispersync" portion is $1.99 that adds up to a total of $4.98 for both :) And my absolute favorite part is that you can find everything on Amazon. Yup, I'm a total amazon hussy LOL!

Yes, you have to have both the audible and the kindle app. They work in tandem with the whisper sync. Then you purchase the book on Amazon and click the little box that says, add audio for $1.99 or $2.99 or whatever price. You can also find syncs for books you've previously purchased on your kindle. It's SUPER awesome!!! I just discovered it a few weeks ago, and I LOVE it!

message 19485: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Marks | 147 comments Night Melissa!

For future reference, you can just do the free month of audible and then cancel, then have the audible app and use your "free account" once you cancel to start using Whispersync in tandem with your kindle app. You will save SO much money doing audible. I pay but I've had seasons where I canceled. But I could still use my audiobooks on the app. Then when I'd buy a kindle book and there was a $1.99 match audio I could just get that. But I'm like Belkis, I also have the Prime membership and all that. I'm like a freak for Amazon…lol

I've tried audible and I have mixed feelings. There are some books like The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater where the narrator was AWESOME and I loved it. Then there were others where I had to make myself finish because the narration was so terrible. And these were books that everybody loved. I believe the narrator can make or break a story.
