message 19255: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 259 comments I haven't been on here lately because we have been so busy and I have been reading some adult books for my book club. I am reading Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children, #1) by Ransom Riggs because it is on the middle school battle of the books list for next year and my daughter participates in that, so I am trying to read them all ahead of her so that I know what she is reading and to screen it for content. So far it is o.k... a little slow, but I am only beginning. :)

I really liked those books. I think I liked Hollow City even more than book 1. First book is a little slower until the children are present. I just think the concept of these is so original. I loved the use of the antique photographs, and that they fit it well with the storyline and didn't feel forced in their usage.

And I still just think it's awesome that Ransom Riggs and Tahereh Mafi are married. That's one talented household right there.

I find myself interested in Xcor's but not exactly Assil however I feel if I skim I will miss something ugh I hate all the POVs. When Wrath's first book and of the series came out I swear it wasn't like this at all. What made her change it into more aspect of the brotherhood vs mating is beyond me.

Yeah Bridget, The King had me confused in parts since both Wrath and his father Wrath had POV's ugh! I had to smack myself back and forth trying to keep the dedicated chapters for each of them straight. Plus, a lot of the back story for his father's time didn't really tickle my fancy. But I enjoyed it for the most part. And I so want to get to Pucked but sooo many books lined up for this month LOL! Hopefully I'll get to it :)

Wasn't totally thrilled with CARTER, but I read the whole thing by the pool yesterday. BOUNDARY CROSSED was amaze-ballz! And SOULFIRE was simple and sexy—I'd like to read the novel so I can get a bit more depth for that type of book, though. Felt a bit too surface in short form.

Oh cool! I'm reading Windburn (Nightwing, #2) by Juliette Cross as my next novella this weekend (I try and read a book and a novella every weekend). Those Morgan men are VERY smexy! Does anyone know of any really great series that are immersed in the faery world? Not a series that just has faeries along with a lot of other beings, but books that take place almost as much or more in their world than ours? Like The Iron King (The Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa The Shadow Reader (Shadow Reader, #1) by Sandy Williams Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1) by Melissa Marr . All three of those series are among my favourites. I have read Holly Black's fae series and enjoyed them too but not as much. I am probably lucky to have read 3 great fae series already and am getting greedy at this point, but I would love to read more!!

Yeah that's one of the most common complaints. Ward changed the writing style from the first few original BDB books from the more recent ones. I do have to say that after she dropped the focus on the Lesser storyline I've been enjoying the books much more. I don't mind the multiple POV's as long as the stories and characters are interesting. Some of the newer books have been fantastic.

You should try the audiobook for the Elemental Mysteries series Rachel if you like audiobooks. They were really cheap to add-on the audio if you bought the ebook on Amazon. I did that and plan on listening to them as my second reread of the series since I definitely plan on rereading it. I've heard from other readers that the narration is very well done. I love audios because with long work hours and all the running around I don't get to much actual reading time and audiobooks are perfect because you can listen to the books while you do stuff. But I'm SO HAPPY that you're loving this story because it's one of my all-time favorite series and top 5 authors. YAY!
