Reading How (Not) to Fall in Love by Lisa Brown Roberts and I'm bored. 26% in and nothing has really happened. The girl is pining over the guy (and it's annoying b/c I haven't seen any interaction between them that would make her attracted...it's all about his looks). And we were just introduced to two new characters and it's obvious who they are.

DNF'd How (Not) to Fall in Love by Lisa Brown Roberts at 34%. I just can't deal with the MC and her pining over this guy she hardly knows (all for looks). The author didn't show any interactions to make me feel the connection at all. Plus, nothing has really happened. That's two books by this publisher I had to DNF this week.

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) It happens. Characterization is pretty important to me. I can forgive a lot of other flaws (even TSTL) if the characters are written well enough.

Kelly Elise | 188 comments About half way through Hollow City (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children, #2) by Ransom Riggs . Who's read this? So excited for the movie next year - totally think it being a Tim Burton movie was dead on.

I think it's soooo creative how the old pictures are used to write the story around. The story doesn't blow my mind, but the concept is so cool I still end up loving it.

Danielle (Danniegurl) (danniesreads) | 1326 comments Finished Soul Avenged (Sons of Wrath, #1) by Keri Lake 3 stars it was just too slow for me and the action was all smushed into the last 10% which is annoying. I am interested though in the second book to see if it's better, but idk if I can hang.

Tracy this one has a lot more pictures - I had heard that and was worried that it would be like... the author wanted to squeeze so many pictures in that they wouldn't tie in with the story and it would just seem ridiculous, but that's not the case at all. I think the 2nd one is better than the first!(so far)

I know it was her POV at first so he seemed so wonderful. But it just kind of came out of left field for me. It was a complete switch in personality on his side, and in my mind we would have seen a piece of that earlier. All we really saw was her starting to move away from him because of Warner. I don't know. . . I just liked Adam and was really disappointed she decided to make him a bad guy to make the choice easier.

Exactly; I just think the massive difference in Adam from the start to the finish of this series was such a disservice to his character. I absolutely adored him, I literally went right back and read Shatter Me as soon as I finished because I wanted to see it knowing who Adam really was to her in the beginning, not just some soldier. It was such an intense and beautiful thing between them, and Tahereh crushed that and ruined him in the process. I love how Warner became a better person for her and the connection between them, but I think she just trashed Shatter Me by doing that. Just my opinion, of course, but if you read through the SM reviews, EVERYONE loved Adam. It's like this 'rave about Adam' fest in the SM reviews, so I was shocked at how she handled him given how much her readers loved him.

Yeah, it's definitely one of the bigger character shift disappointments for me. I just hate being duped by authors, there's no need to make something overtly strong in one direction and then completely turn around the other way. SM wouldn't have been as brilliant if Adam hadn't been the incredible guy he was, but by doing that without the intention of him getting the girl...I felt cheated. Ah well, fiction is fiction.

There should have been a stronger fight from him. Not what she made him to be. I felt like he just kind of let things get away from him, went from this strong soldier to a wuss. A totally different person than we were introduced to. Complete turn around and it was just not right.

Yeah, honestly I would have taken it better if he had died defending her or been killed in battle being the hero that he started out as. Why, oh WHY do authors feel the need to ruin great characters just to make the story bend the way they wanted it to?! Ugh, it's making me mad thinking about it. lol

Forgot to mention that I finished Be Mine Forever (The Bennetts, #3) by Kennedy Ryan and it was surprisingly deep and heart-wrenching. I went in expecting the typical Entangled-style contemp romance, but it was much better!

Love the Tv Show HATE the books. I can't stand the books because of how Sara just keeps writing them and there is no character growth they all keep doing things that A will find out and they act as though A will never find out. It's just annoying you'd think they'd grow up a bit.

Yeah, I agree. I guess it's artistic license. I might not like it, but they have to take the story where they feel it needs to go. I often hear authors talk about how their characters lead them. I can tell you from experience with my own MS that it's true. I had to write a chapter two different ways, I mean completely write it, so I could figure out where the character was taking me. My first instinct had been right, but I wasn't sure. I can be angry or disappointed in how a character acts or what they do, but in the long wrong, I can't really fault the author for needing to do it, even if it makes me not so happy.
