I read Covenant but not VA, so I have no idea if the similarities exist. It's only from what I have heard. I do want to read VA though. But now all her stories are bleeding together for me, as are her characters.

Ashlee | 309 comments So I ended up really enjoying Wicked (A Wicked Saga, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout in spite of everything...great climax, looking forward to the next one...

On our JLA debate...I'm a huge VA fan -like Huge, I've read all 11books several times and am devastated that it's going to end soon (I'm counting bloodlines in this) ....I was very skeptical about reading Covenant but after a while I just decided to go for it....there are definitely some parallels but it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be...I think the worst thing JLA did here was making Aiden so similar to Dimitri...ive only read the first two covenant, cause even though they're okay books I find I need a break in between...not cause of the similarities to VA (the second one is completely different) but because I find Alex really annoying and aiden really boring and I don't really care that much about them

Anyway, I was thinking about it last night and I can't think of an author who's written so many different series in similar genres for similar age groups? It's no wonder some of her characters overlap

message 12712: by Ashlee (new)

Ashlee | 309 comments I read Isla's Inheritance (Isla's Inheritance, #1) by Cassandra Page last night as I'm interviewing the author for my magazine...very quick read, got through it in one night and enjoyed it....only annoying thing was all the Americanisms - it's fine when the book is set in the US but this is an Aussie book set in Canberra and it was just plain weird to see things like 'sneakers', 'jocks' (which in Aus is a word for men's undies lol) and 'gym class'....I was reading the kindle version so I'm assuming it had been 'translated' to avoid confusion, but man it was weird!! Lol

Lynn might be right here. There is too much hype over such a simple book. If not for my friend, I would not be reading it. I even snuck into the last page and was unaffected. The writing although is nice but the characters are cardboard cut outs. Some nice stories are also narrated but I probably Would never eat em up if I was not watching once upon a time tv show.its just another fault in star like book which I did not like at all.

Laura (llbasaldua) | 790 comments They are soooo Similar its not even funny but the Covenant series eventually comes into its own and I ended up liking it but not loving it But I think thats because I am such a HUGE VA fan and couldnt get pass the first 3 or so books that were for me and many others exactly alike. Same scenes and so on I think I and so many other VA fans made lists that happened in the first 2 books.

I think my review for the first book is up (I totally shut down my old account and started over because I was having so many problems with it) If you want to have a look at the list or just look at some of the top 1 star reviews and you will see lists of things far longer than mine.

But again on that same note a lot of VA fans enjoyed it (like me) because of the similarities. I think IF you can get past the first 2 books you would enjoy the series.

Did I give it 4? I thought I gave it three. If it's 4 I must go back and change it. To be honest, it wasn't much different from the Covenant books. I was looking for it to kind of take its own spin, but it really didn't. Same stuff with the Titans and G-ds. And It's NA, but there's not much that goes on in the book to really put it there, to be honest. I do hope the second book is better. Let me go check that star rating now. I must have clicked the wrong thing.

Laura wrote: "Ive read all her books But her NA/Adult books and I agree I saw the characters as the same different names same character traits. But I have noticed this with a few other Authors. Like Abbi Glines ..."

I guess I haven't read a lot of authors who have a ton of work in the same genre. I actually read one of Glines books (The Vincent Boys) and I didn't really enjoy it. Made me sad as everyone seems to love her books. I was told to give one of the Sea Breeze or Rosemary Beach books a try. I might if I have some extra time *rolls eyes*. I can understand if an author writes a lot in one genre that the characters might take on similarities, but there are authors who are also able to make their characters totally different (Cora Carmack, Colleen Hoover). It's just frustrating to see the same character traits, same colloquialisms, same descriptions of what the guy looks like, same descriptions of how the guy makes the girl feel. It's getting annoying. To the point I want to highlight it in the book and then list them in my review (which I won't do b/c who has time for that?)! LOL!

What I also find annoying is when a different side character or the love interest in a book has the same mannerisms as the main character. They are not the same person they should not be talking the same.
