Just over halfway in Wicked (A Wicked Saga, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout - absolutely flying through it, it's such an easy read....typical JLA, just heated up a bit for the NA audience. Not sure I've really read enough to be able to either rave or rant (i'll be finished by tonight though) but here are a couple of observations so far:

Good - the concept is interesting, loving the New orleans setting (i'm visiting there next year so it's definitely a drawcard) and the sexy stuff is, well sexy without being over the top and downright porno like a lot of NA stuff. There's also a really funny character called Tink who cracks me up in pretty much every scene.

Not so good - again..that classic JLA trait that clearly no editor has pointed out to her...the MC Ivy thinks/says similar expressions/phrases to Katy, Alex and Layla (although I'm yet to come across the favourite 'crap on a cracker' yet).

Depends which way you look at it - the love interest Ren is basically a clone of Daemon with Roth's personality....now for me, that's not so bad cause I think Daemon's the hottest looks-wise of JLA's guys, while Roth's my overall fave, but from a critical point of view it just seems...i dunno...lazy?

Anyway, i'll probably be finished by tonight and then it's on to Gathering Darkness (Falling Kingdoms, #3) by Morgan Rhodes !! =D yay for summer holidays!

Ivy is a replica of all her other female characters in her series. I noticed it immediately and was not surprised. And the same phrase thing gets annoying. This is why none of JLAs books have gotten more than a 3 from me over the last year. I don't see anything new and different and over the top that make me want to fly through them. I'm about 23% in, and I'm not rushing. And as far as lazy, not sure that's it, or she's just stuck in the same mode b/c she's writing TOO much all at once and can't differentiate. I have a feeling her work will die down soon if she does not change it up. I mean she'll still have her base fans for sure. But I've been one and to be honest I'm betting bored.

I also read Lux first. I read Obsidian and was hooked with that. Then I moved on to Cursed. Then Covenant. Then I started her adult and NA stuff. Once I got to the fourth book in Lux I had finished Covenant and all I could think was how much Alex and Katie were alike. Then I read WHK and it sealed the deal with her female characters being all the same in those types of series. And in her NA the characters are the same as well, no different. Their personalities don't change all that much. Well, some of the guys do, although the "Douchey" Damain seems to be a theme in her paranormal. I loved Don't Look Back, though, b/c it's stand alone and totally different from all her other stuff.

I have yet to read a JLA book due to the VA Covenant being so similar from what I have heard that I don't feel like reading a replica story. They are in my tbrs I just, when that happens I draw lots of comparisons.
