I had struggled with this series too Mel. I love her League series and tried this one but after 2 books I don't think it's for me. I got bored and the sex scenes felt a bit forced?? I mean in the sense that I felt like Kenyon sacrificed storyline/plot and opted for the smexiness?? Not necessarily a bad thing but just didn't work for me. It just made the story flat and didn't add any depth to the characters. Maybe in the later books once she's developed the series more this won't be the case since many readers seem to enjoy this series and it's up to like 24 books or something like that. I'm not sure if I'll continue onto the next one - book 3 for me - or not. I wasn't a fan of the first 2 books.

I agree. Everything is forced and I'm not into the insta-love like I'm almost done with book 1 and I still have no idea why this couple is together, there were no reasons given why they are sooooo in love. Each character feels like a stock character. I love how badass and strong the guys in the League are but the guy Kyrian in this one is kinda weak. I'm just wondering if I should skip a few books and get to the ones that are more current where maybe there will be improvement?

Laura (llbasaldua) | 790 comments I made it through Sempre (Forever, #1) by J.M. Darhower lord it was a long book! (20 hrs audio) It was really slow start but I eventually got into it but again wasnt all that impressed felt it was way to dragged out.

Also finished The Beautiful Ashes (Broken Destiny, #1) by Jeaniene Frost uhmm yeah I really dont know what to say about this book. I was under the impression when I pre ordered it that it was a NA Contemporary ...yeah its not. I listened to the audio and Tavia Gilbert is the narrator who also narrated all of the Night Huntress books which she does an amazing job with BTW! But all I could think of was Mencheres as the Male MC same accent and so on. It was so much action like a Night Huntress book but I dunno it just didnt do it for me ...

and now I just started Feral Sins (The Phoenix Pack, #1) by Suzanne Wright

message 8260: by Ekaterine (new)

Ekaterine (thegoddess) | 478 comments Just finished Mind Games (The Disillusionists Trilogy, #1) by Carolyn Crane and it was amazing. Unbelievable chemistry and amazing story line. If you are bored of the usual PNR go for this!!! Currently reading Wither (The Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano , but putting it on-hold. Too slow and dull. Starting Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover , unfortunately and disappointingly I don't have high hopes any more, I just heard there is slam poetry involved and I'm not a fan of it. :(

Same for me with Sempre Laura. Very long, kind of slow and drawn out, and just a meh read for me. And on Baustiful Ashes, I was so very looking forward to it. Crap, oh well, I guess I don't need to rush to get to it. Next month will be soon enough. I do love the narrator so that's a plus :) Oh and Feral Sins is fantastic! Hope you enjoy. I still need to read book 3 to end this trilogy.

Really?! That's giving me hope. What I heard was that one of the POVs is written with slam poetry. Mind Games was amazing, don't mind the cover. It has nothing to do with the book or the story. :) It's really good and so much different then any other PNR. I'm continuing with the series as soon as I have time.

I loved it! The different setting was what got me into it and of course Packard. :D Me definitely Team Packard. The chemistry between the main characters blew me away.

Laura (llbasaldua) | 790 comments I think Beautiful Ashes didnt do it for me because it starts right in the middle of the action and then there is all kinds of secrets then HUGE info dump then action and well the MC is like Barbie goes bad ass! lol It just wasnt what I was expecting. I didnt really feel right it wasnt exactly Adult or NA or YA It really didnt have a direction and I think thats why it just didnt do it for me.
Oh the "romance" if you can call it that is rushed and just happens instantly at the end .. till next book.. it was to rushed.

Ugly Love doesn't have slam poetry in it. It does have prose for one of the main character's chapters, sort of.

Finished an ARC of Blood Beyond Darkness (Darkness #4) by Stacey Marie Brown , it was an awesome wrap-up for the series. It's up now if anyone was waiting on this one, and if you haven't grabbed up this series yet I highly recommend!!

Belkis (bminaya) | 8313 comments Okay so I finished Broken Skies (Broken Skies, #1) by Theresa Kay and I loved it. Fantastic story and very well written. Can't wait for book 2 to come out! Then went back to Lead (Stage Dive, #3) by Kylie Scott by the end of the book it was okay but I struggled quite a bit with the first half of the story mostly because of the MCs. Jimmy was jerk (as per his usual) to Lena most of the time. And Lena was a lovesick, awe-struck, doormat most of the time. Looking forward to Ben's story though and hoping for a much better story.

Totally with you on that Tracy. The ending left so mush to be desired. I wish RR would write a followup to their story but I don't think she will though. She's said that she likes writing standalone books that tell a complete story from beginning to end. I think that in the case of E&P the author wanted us the readers to finish it in our minds anyway we sought fit LOL!
