Yeah, I've found a lot of series, including my faves, go this route. I know as an author they are trying to hold onto their characters longer and some are trying to eek out a little more story for financial purposes, but there needs to be some sense and reasoning behind the choice to keep going. Felt that with Covenant, not so much with Lux.

Agreed, this was a very dark dystopian in terms of the psychological aspect. I gave it four stars but never went back to the series, not sure I will.

About halfway through Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover . Definitely loving it, definitely having my heart hit pretty hard! Feel like they kind of jumped right to the steamy scenes a bit (not that I'm complaining!!), but it says something about Colleen's writing that even with these thoughts, I'm still enthralled to the point of goosebumps whenever they're together! Without a doubt her most poetic and beautifully crafted writing yet.

Yep it jumps right in. But that kind of makes sense for what they are doing in this book. Just wait. Are you liking Miles' chapters? A lot of people complained about the way she wrote them. They didn't like it. But I thought it was perfect. Poetic, sort of stream of consciousness, ya know?

OKay, finished Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover at 3AM after a few bouts of tears! I'm giving it 4 stars; I loved it and it brought out emotions that I hadn't experienced over a book in a long time, the story was beautiful as a whole. I just wish there was more between them than the sex and occasional conversations. I get that he was only in it for that from the start, but I think I would have felt more of an impact if they had shared a lot of tender moments DESPITE his wishes. Don't get me wrong, I fell hard for Miles just like she did, but SHE didn't know all that we did. I felt like she fell in love with him but didn't know him at all, while we got to see this beautiful and tender side that just made me melt. I've seen some reviews/comments that said his flashbacks were childish and choppy, but I disagree. I was mesmerized with his thoughts on Rachel, those chapters just ripped me apart as I braced for something awful to happen. That kind of love, I mean, damn!! It overshadowed what he felt for Tate for me, other than those few precious moments when he let that slip...which was usually when he was in the throes of a seriously steamy scene that left you breathless! Lol

Well, yes, he could have had more snark but I don't really feel like it's a personality transplant. People just change towards other people. I have changed so much during my relationship, sometimes I don't recognize myself. I am still me, you know, but different, and I think better. I just feel that his change was gradual and was even made under extreme circumstances that made him value more his time with her. He still has his wit and his playfulness and don't forget the innuendos :)) those had me ROTFL :)))
His sweet side with the girl he practically worships doesn't undermine his responses towards others. I just love this guy to bits. Don't tell my husband I said that, he'll definitely commit me this time after having 500 other book boyfriends LOL, I think he has just reached his limit :)))

Erin, I totally hear you. I almost wanted Miles' POV from the present, rather than just the past. I wanted to get in his head. But I think the point was that we had NO idea what was going on with him during those moments, no idea how much Tate was really breaking down his walls. I still would love to see his internal struggle. I know many have asked Colleen to write some stuff from his POV. And I loved Miles' chapters. I love the way she chose to write them, poetic and a stream of consciousness.

It was just too much of a change. I get that he needs to be more mature because he's realized how much he loves Kat, but part of their chemistry was the snark. And that was just missing for the last three books for me. I felt like the chemistry between them (no matter how much they told each other they loved each other and told us they loved each other) just went out the window.

LOL! Yeah, the hubby's don't understand. I get that he had to change, don't get me wrong. I know it needed to happen or else we would have been bored. I guess I just felt like the chemistry between them was kind of gone. It got boring for me. I mean, remember the scene in Obsidian where he has her up against the wall? It's hot and steamy and there's no filter and it's raw. But I didn't get that at all in the last two books.

Yep, I would love to see that, too. I loved the mystery of him being such an enigma of sorts, though I really felt like we got to know him much better than she did with the insight on his past. I just wanted Tate to see more of that so I could believe she fell for him so fast, she really only sees his tender side for the fleeting moments when he's let the walls down doing the horizontal tango! LOL But he was so freaking cute and romantic in the flashbacks, ugh I just loved his teen mind!
