***spoiler alert***Do you wish Pug and Rhoda had stayed together

What a strange thing to say. Why would you be glad that you didn't read the books. (The books are actually quite good, and IMHO better than the TV miniseries. There wasn't a movie.)

That being said, there are parts that can be frustrating to people (like me) that just wish people would do the right and sensible things. Yet, when they are completed you have a correct sense of how the dynamics of such an undertaking, whether it be WWII or Israel's wars, leave an indelible mark and forever change people -with no going back. During these times, people make the wrong decision and it dogs them to their life's end.
I LOVED THE BOOKS AND THEY ARE TWO OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES!! Try "The Caine Mutiny" as well...

I TRIED to watch the miniseries after reading both books. I couldn't get past 10 minutes because the actors felt all wrong! The books are fantastic & I highly recommend reading them.

That happens with many movies and miniseries. Pug was short and pugnacious, and I pictured him as more of a Glenn Ford type than Robert Mitchum. Robert Mitchum was only good as a villain. And Allie McGraw -- well, she was NOT Natalie.

1) You posted this in the first book's forums when it was about the next book.
2) That's a spoiler there in the title.
3) When I opened this thread because I'd read the first book I was instantly exposed to unavoidable spoilers for the next book.
Thank you for ruining this book series that I was really looking forward to the next book in for me. I have honestly never seen worse manners when it comes to book spoilers. Someone with power please remove this thread. If it were me I wouldn't be above banning the original poster, either, but it's not.

I've both read the books and seen the TV movies (movies or mini-series? I don't remember - what I saw was on TV with Robert Mitchum) - loved them both, and found each satisfying in its own way.

Especially After Warren died. I think Pamela gets off too easy in all this, the way she was tempting a married man.
I never understood this angle of the book, with all that was going on did we really need this soap opera, was it made clear somewhere that Rhoda stopped loving him, its a very weird relationship.
Is the break-up of their marriage symbolic of a seismic change in American culture brought on by the War
