Our first sprint of the year!

The challenge: Read books authored or coauthored by Kevin DeYoung.

The timeframe: Books must be finished by midnight local time on January 31st to qualify. Then come back and post your final list of completed titles here, or your entries won't be counted!

The prizes: The person who reads the most books by DeYoung will win this month's prize (TBA). In case of a tie, winner will be randomly drawn. In addition, everyone who reads at least one DeYoung book will be entered in another giveaway, as kudos for trying a new author.

Why did I pick DeYoung for this Sprint? Well, I always knew I needed to read DeYoung. (He's one of those authors Corey keeps posting epic quotes from.) One of the things I want to focus on in the early part of this year is finally reading all the nonfiction I've known I needed to read. While I was browsing for some books on another subject, DeYoung's titles came up in the recommends, and I went, "Oh, I really need to read him. Okay! That's our first challenge!"

Yeah, that's about how my brain works.

Anyone here who's already read DeYoung? (Coreyyy.) Any recommends for people here who haven't read any of his work yet?

I've got both of those in at the library waiting for me. Just Do Something was the book that made me go OKAY I NEED TO READ THIS GUY. I've also got Don't Call It a Comeback and Crazy Busy.

Got my stack of DeYoung books from the library today. Starting with "Just Do Something." Is there an irony to the fact that it's taken me this long to settle down and read this book?

Yay! Finished my first DeYoung book ("Just Do Something" - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...). It was fantastic and incredibly relevant to my generation (which is also the generation of pretty much everyone in this challenge). Highly recommended.

Anyone else started on some DeYoung?

Leah Good | 236 comments I really want to read Just Do Something, but my library doesn't have it and I'm too cheap to pay $6 for it on kindle...

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

It's worth it, if you ask me. It's an extremely pressing issue for our generation. My library had it, but I gifted a Kindle copy to someone else, WHO HAD BETTER COME POST HERE AFTER HE READS IT SO I CAN LEGITIMATELY ENTER HIM IN THE CHALLENGE. Ahem.

*sighs* You're not making it easy for me to save my Christmas gift card...

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

What would you be saving it for? I mean, isn't that why people gave you the card for Christmas? So you could buy something you wanted that you otherwise couldn't afford?

(Nope, not helping.)

message 11: by Leah (new)

Leah Good | 236 comments Yeah, but if I buy cheaper books with it I can make it last longer. :P *sigh* Decisions.

message 12: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Jones | 120 comments I don't think I'm going to manage to join this sprint. My library has two or three of Mr. DeYoung's books, but not only have I never heard of them, but me doesn't think I'd have time to finish them with editing and website design this month. :)

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooh, web design? *eyes brighten, then shakes head* NO! Must make Rebekah read! That's your job, Aubrey! >:(

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished reading Crazy Busy: A (Mercifully) Short Book about a (Really) Big Problem on my lunch break at work today (which is kind of ironic when you think about it). Oi, so much to absorb and apply in this book.

Anyone else going to sneak an entry in before the end of the month?

message 15: by Theodora (new)

Theodora R. R. (the_homesick_dreamer) | 122 comments I found a few books by DeYoung, but I can't stay focused on them. :/ So I probably won't end up reading any of his books.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Which ones did you find, Theodora?

Theodora R. R. (the_homesick_dreamer) | 122 comments Um... the busyness one, one with 'emergent' in the title, and one other... I'll go fetch them and give the exact titles later.

I want to read that one sometime. (Obviously won't be getting it in this month, lol!)
