Tori P | 1 comments So. for a very long time I have wondered what this book was called. I remember loving it but sadly I forgot the name (and part of the story, so please bear with me)

The story involves two children. One a boy and the other is a girl. they have discovered another 'dimension' or portal to another world within a tree trunk. there are spirits, animals, people, and they stay there for extended periods of time. I believe one of them dies near the end, (I forgot who)
I think they placed emphasis on the ceiling, for some reason there were stars or even lights that seemed magical. This place also, if I do remember correctly, stopped time for them while they were there. I'm not sure if that's something that happened or if my mind is warping the story. they go there alone, and the place excites them. I even think that they could fly....not sure. It teaches morals, and it is a story geared towards children or teenagers. I have read other reviews on stories similar however none of them seem to match once I investigate. Any and all help would be appreciated....please help me find this book so I can read it again! :)

Daphne | 247 comments Well, this probably isn't your book, but a similar book is The Beginning Place by Ursula LeGuin. There are two teenagers, a boy and a girl, and they go to another world through a place in the woods. Time is a lot slower while they're in there. But otherwise it doesn't match your description. (Neither of them die, there is no fancy ceiling with stars/lights, it's not a tree trunk.)

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 139 comments It's not Bridge to Terabithia is it? Been forever and ever since I read it but sounds familiar...

Hannah O | 4 comments It sounds like "Bridge to Terabithia". SPOILER One of the main characters does die at the end.

Jen♏ | 7 comments im just going out on a limb here but it kind of sounds like the plot to the magic treehouse books but im not certain if jack or annie die at the end

☆Joycedale☆ | 224 comments It sounds like Fardoor. They find the magic tree in a cave system their exploring. They eat the apples at the base of the tree to get to the other dimension. I didn't finish it so I don't know if anyone dies.

Dara Phillips (daradv) | 6 comments I also vote that it sounds like Bridge to Terabithia

Daphne | 247 comments Is it The Ancient One? This other search sounds somewhat similar...

Samantha The Escapist (greatescapist) | 37 comments I think I agree with most people here on this one, but if it's not Terabithia, I'd suggest this one.

I haven't actually read it, however, I just know it's got the same tree-as-portal stuff going on.

Alicia | 37 comments I must be due a re-read of Bridge to Terabithia - in my memory, the children were playing a game about another world, not actually crossing a portal!
