ABANDONED. Short story - man named Cliff/Clifford haunted by the ghost of a woman

Hi All,

I am searching for a short story I read in a fictional collection of ghost stories in 1993 - I purchased the book new then in Australia. I think it was a single-author collection, maybe written by a woman. The title could have been something like "The .......... .......... and Other Stories".

This particular story concerns a man named Cliff/Clifford who moves into a flat or house with his wife. Cliff begins to be haunted by the ghost of a woman who used to live there. I think Cliff dies at the end or something happens to him - maybe the ghost kills him so that he can be with her?
