Elizabeth (persephone17) Hello, hello, you guys! I have been asked by Stewie to write a post about the best books of 2013, for the new IGGPPC website! (Super excited!!) So, I was wondering: what were some of your favorite books of 2013? They can be from that year, or an old classic you had just discovered; that's what I shall be doing. I would love to hear opinions!
Thanks,
Elizabeth

ClaireGenevieve (badschnoodles) | 89 comments Well, I read all the ASOIAF books in 2013, they weren't new but were some of the best I've ever read. My favourite book of the year, and one I've recommended a lot was Mechanique by Genevieve Valentine. I also enjoyed The Heavens Rise by Christopher Rice and no 'best book' post would be complete without Neil Gaiman - The Ocean At The End of The Lane! :)

Katie | 45 comments The Fault in Our Stars
Vessel
The Ocean at the End of the Lane
Out of the Easy
Seraphina
Fangirl

Just to name a few, I do have a faves tag and I think I "faved" ~20 books in 2013 out of the 250 I read

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 76 comments Fangirlwas fantastic, definitely (all of Rainbow Rowell's books that I've read this year were great. Have yet to tackle Eleanor and Park though). I pretty much read it in one day while the power was out in my area two weeks ago, lol.

Elizabeth (persephone17) I have read Looking for Alaska, Jessica! It was fantastic. :)

Cortney Jean I also vote Fault in Our Stars! Hands-down one of (if not THE) best book of 2013.

Katie Kempski (darthphasma) | 120 comments Definitely Fangirl, since it speaks to the geek in all of us. ;D The Ocean at the End of the Lane was fabulous as well; the first book in a long time that I couldn't put down.

Elizabeth (persephone17) I'm seriously campaigning for Fangirl as our February main pick, you guys.

Elizabeth (persephone17) Some of my favorites I read in 2013 were Eleanor & Park, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Eon: Dragoneye Reborn, Babylon Steel,Cinder, Saga, Volume 1, A Thousand Splendid Suns, and Paper Towns. I read a lot this year, which I was happy about. :)

Meghan (mesulli) | 14 comments I think the Alex Verus Novels by Benedict Jacka and Horde, the conclusion to Ann Aguirre's Razorland trilogy may be my favorites of the year. I also found myself in love with the Guillermo Del Toro Cabinet of Curiosities. But I'd certainly put in a vote for The Ocean at the End of the Lane. I read Fault in Our Stars and it was good, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't one of my tops (but that may also be due to family cancer issues going on last year too - a little too close to home at times).

HowPeculeah | 4 comments Definitely TFiOS, my first John Green book and my favourite (I actually read it 3.5 times...) I have since read all his other novels. I've yet to read Ocean at the End of the Lane but only heard wonderful things about it. Also finally got around to reading some Salinger and I adored Franny & Zooey. One of my 2013 reading highlights without a doubt.

Non fiction wise I read The Psychopath Test and The Tipping Point, both of which were fascinating. I love the Tipping Point a whole lot though and it has totally made me look at the world with a new perspective.

I read Perks in 2013 too and loved it. And Paper Towns was really good.
