Yep, Jon gave him the obsidian. I am wondering if this is what the wildlings were looking for. I really enjoyed this scene is was momentous in different ways.

Sounded like Sam sent messages when they were first attacked and then let the rest of the birds free. Wonder what those who were warned will think? No.

Such gray area! I do feel she should have been punished in some way even if it was she had to stay in her rooms like before.

Robb killing him was not a surprise but I feel something has to happen soon or we won't be seeing much of Robb anymore. Also, he never gets his own chapters. Does that mean he can be killed?

It was a little funny, a nice break from all the serious stuff going on.

Oh, was that what happened. I was wondering why he was screaming. I did not think the would kill him. It has been interesting seeing is viewpoint; I like it.

I think that would have been her best chance to get home. I think she'll be caught up in power struggles and used as a pawn again.

Yes. Dragon glass, makes me think that Dragon fire will kill the others too, can see Dany coming in helpful in the future. And Direwolves would be good at decapitating, I think they should all be friends and play nicely.

Maybe Littlefinger was the father, he is telling everyone he bedded her before and is trying to get her to marry him now.

I don't think he will. Will the fire lady and this guy reborn in stannis become the only way to defeat the others? Fire does seem to kill them. But we have the dragons coming too, woot!

I hope they can learn to get along for both their sakes.

They no longer have her as their pawn. She is now of no use to them, so not worth any attention. Tyrells are probalbly as bad as the Lannisters.

He is the only character I cant find any redeeming qualities. I hope he doesn't mamge to force Sansa into his bed.

It may make the marriage easier to annul, but it may make Sansa trust him more. Even one of the Tyrells told her that Tyrion would treat her better than one of the Tyrells.

81) Tansy's secret identity is finally revealed. Now what the heck does she have to do with anything? Okay here's something I've been pondering for a while. Could she be Tyrion's Tysha? His first wife? I know crazy, right?
Not sure about her being Tysha, but who knows with all these twists. Maybe a lowborn whore he loved.

82) I think Gendry has a crush on Arya. He acted awful strange when she said he wasn't her brother. Could she like him too? I think the Lady doth protest too much.:)
Definately feelings there, but not sure if they will be acted on. Ayra is still very young. Her big sister is still only 12.

Always worried for Ayra, but I always expect her to pull through.

But he does know nothing. She knows so much more about the Others and the true treat to everyone. He has had a sheletered life growing up south of the wall, and still hasn't been let in on everything Mance is planning.

Was that the horn they dug up with the obsidian dagger that Samwell used to kill the white walker. I cant remember who took it.

I have no memory of this, so I don't know.

I neither like nor dislike Ygritte. Part of me thinks Jon would be much better off without her around, part of me realizes that her being around, standing up for him, might be the only reason he's still alive.

71) Did anyone else wonder at one time if Ygritte, at the beginning, was being used as a tool to secure Jon's loyalty? After this chapter, however, I really believe she loves him.

She could have started out being used as a tool, but ended up developing feelings for him. Wouldn't be surprised if that's the case.

A little, but I guessed she had something planned out since she loves her dragons so much.

Well, yes, but justice can be seen in many ways, and can be seen to in different ways as well. She needs to be careful so she doesn't become the monster she's so afraid of becoming.

Sansa doesn't trust any of the Lannisters and can't see past the outer shell of Tyrion to his inner beauty. Tyrion has wedded a 12 year old girl. He sees it like it is and doesn't force her. Gotta love him and feel awful for him at the same time. Curse you Cersei and Tywin! Okay got my melodramatic moment out of the way. :)

I also feel terribly sorry for them both. But I feel that Sansa is better off with Tyrion than many of the alternatives, and I trust him to continue being good to her. I just wish that she will one day (sooner rather than later) realize who he is on the inside.

Given his training, I thought he would do it himself. And, I thought he had to kill him to make a point of stopping others from acting out after Catelyn was forgiven.

He seems to have found some respect for her. I think that he fought her to gain her trust, strangely enough, yet to put her in her place.

I thought before he was the pure evil in this book. Now he reminds me of Tyrion – only he is more twisted by his love for Cersei.

55) I have long been trying to figure out whose side Lord Beric Dondarrion, of Blackhaven, is on. He was sent out by Lord Stark, when he was Hand to the King, to capture Ser Gregor Clegane. Now Arya finds out Lord Beric was hanged, but Thoros revived him. It appears he is out for himself now – well, and the people in his vicinity – correct?
I think Martin is leaving this in flux on purpose.

Not at all. Just suspicious of everyone! Funny, this probably mirrors real life in tumultuous times where kings changed power. I always think of everyone swinging one way or the other, but probably more likely that people were back and forth and finding the best way to survive.

57) I think Gendry thought Arya, after a fierce scrubbing and trimming, looked pretty appealing and didn’t know how to handle it. You? It would be an interesting pairing, but so far I just see a great friendship.

I was a little surprised. Have no idea why he trusts him.

99. Melisandre asks Stannis for “the boy” so she can wake the “stone dragon.” Is “the boy” Edric? What is the “stone dragon?” Do you think she’s asking for a sacrifice or just drops of blood? (My guess is sacrifice.) Were you surprised that Stannis told her no?

I'm happy that Stannis said no. That shows that she doesn't yet have full control of him. Not sure what the stone dragon means.

100. I continue to be surprised by and impressed with Jaime. He tells Brienne he killed Aerys to prevent him from burning King’s Landing. Why didn’t he tell anyone? He says he didn’t because he swore to keep the king’s secrets, but the guy was dead for goodness’ sake! I think Jaime could have saved his reputation if everyone had known about this.

Maybe his reputation would have been saved, maybe not. I can see why he kept quiet.

I think she wants to sacrifice him. She is getting drops of blood from him to do as much as she can via the leeches.Not surprised that Stannis isn't willing to kill an innocent. He is very honourable - similar to Eddard Stark in that way.

Kids are cruel. Tyrion has always said that Jaime used to stand up for him, but I hadn't realised it was againt Cersei. A lot of bullying starts in childhood. Cersei may have hated her younger brother for taking attention away from her or because he sullied her name by association or she was ashamed of him.

Yes to it being edric, at least I think ;) I have no idea what the stone dragon is. I was very happy that he said no, it means she does not have complete control yet.

100. I continue to be surprised by and impressed with Jaime. He tells Brienne he killed Aerys to prevent him from burning King’s Landing. Why didn’t he tell anyone? He says he didn’t because he swore to keep the king’s secrets, but the guy was dead for goodness’ sake! I think Jaime could have saved his reputation if everyone had known about this.

Or is this another lie? I am leaning towards truth but still, there are so many twists all the time.

I think this reputation was also helpful for Jaime at the time. He was instrumental in placing Robert on the crown.

I think the dream showed him that Brienne is a necessary ally. I don’t think losing his hand changed him in particular. We won’t know the extent of his change until he is with Cersei again.

I think she sees the waning of her influence. I can understand her reasons for her concern, although I strongly disagree. I wonder what Robb would say if he knew/thought Jon had joined the Wildings. And whether Jon will break his vows for Robb when he wouldn’t for Ygritte.

We haven’t heard from the seven gods in the past, but perhaps they are waking up. And hopefully the elk-rider will be an ally in the coming war against the others.

Since he had been relatively kind to Sansa, it makes sense he wouldn’t be too cruel to Arya. I’m glad his goal is to get her to the Twins instead of Riverrun. When something drastic happens to you nothing seems the same anymore. If nothing seems the same you start questioning things. I am not sure if this contemplative state he is in will last forever though.

121. Uh-oh. The old crone predicted that Riverrun would be taken, and here we have Robb keeping his wife and her family “safe” at Riverrun while he goes to Edmure’s wedding. Over and over we are told how safe it is. I have a bad feeling about this.

122. I wanted to high-five Robb when he told Catelyn he was going to name Jon Snow his heir! I fear this means the end of Robb is near, though. I was bothered at Catelyn taking this so personally. She felt trapped by this. I am not sure why she felt this way.

I have felt like he would not last for awhile now. Partly because he does not have his own chapter.

123. Samwell prays to the Gods for help and lo and behold the ravens save him and Gilly from the wights. Coincidence? Who was the mysterious elk-rider?

The suspense is killing me.

124. I enjoyed watching Arya trying to kill and/or escape the Hound. Did you know he was taking her to her mother? Since he had been relatively kind to Sansa, it makes sense he wouldn’t be too cruel to Arya. I’m glad his goal is to get her to the Twins instead of Riverrun. GRRM is probably just teasing us again, though.

I was thinking that he would give her to her mother since he first took her. He is not too happy with the lions right now.

Yes, I agree with Renee that his character has been somewhat static and we have simply learned new layers. It is an interesting part of the way Martin is narrating the book through multiple characters that change in the different books. First, we saw Jaime from the outside, then from within. The closer look has shown themotivations were not pure evil, even if the actions were. Ha - didn't help Theon much, though, did it?

I'm a little worried that the wall will be overtaken while Jon is out of it. Were you surprised to find some of the brothers had returned and told the story of what happened?

I was not surprised and am also worried they will attack while he is ill.

126) Jon's confession about Ygritte shows how he feels guilty about what happened. Think a Jon junior will result from their relationship?

Wow! on of the smallest sections of 4 chapters we've read thus far, but it packed a punch.

I think Jon is right and the main attack will be at the main gate, the other attacks are to spread the defence thin. The party he was with wont be far behind him and I don't think he will be 100% by the time they get there.

Like Zonnah, I was concerned when Grey Wind didn't want to go in, but remained completely in denial until it happened.

I dont think they killed Edmure yet. I think they need him to get his wife pregnant so there is an heir that is part Frey. I don't think Riverrun would pass to a new wife without child. But I think Frey will keep Edmure captive until he is no longer required.
