Julia | 2 comments All I remember about the book was that the main character was riding a bike when he stopped to buy something from a pawn shop (it was either a stone or a book). I think he has a little sister named Bridget and they both walk into this corridor of mist with candles and end up having a weird adventure with wolves chasing after them. There were witches, a talking fox, and talking head stones involved too.
Thank you so much for helping!

Mir | 805 comments I think this may be The Hounds of the Morrigan. The main character is a boy named P.J. (I think -- he definitely goes by his initials) and he buys a book or scroll that has some mythical significance and bad stuff starts to happen to his family because of the three witches/goddesses called the Morrigan who are looking for a lost pebble with a drop of their blood. He and his younger sister go on a quest with lots of Irish mythology and are helped by various animals. I recall a cat, a fox, a giant elk, and earwigs for sure.

Mir | 805 comments You're welcome! I'm glad this was the book you were looking for. I thought it was great and am not sure why it isn't more popular.

Happy 2014 to you, too! Hoping you're having a good winter break.
