This goes waaay back for me, but Gone With The Wind and The Thorn Birds--two books I've read numerous times.Lisa Anne, I agree with "East of Eden" too!
Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson.I loaned this to my sister-in-law who has nearly passed it out to everyone in her neighborhood. They all loved it.

Now that you mention it, Auntee, I think I do vaguely recall the mini-series, and I might have even watched it too. According to the date on IMDB, I would have only been 11 or 12 when it came out, so I don't remember a thing about it.:-)
