I have to say Wake. I loved it because it was the intro and it was supposed to draw you in and it did it was amazing like the first bite of your favorite food.

I disagree. I thought the first two books were pretty poor. And the second two really stepped up, and one me over which I didn't expect to happen. I can't decide which book was best out of Tidal or Elegy but they were both great!!!

I think that's because Tidal and Elegy were the big action parts. By then we know all there is to know and now something big has to happen. So that's why elegy and tidal may appear to be better. Either your the type of person who likes that first bite or the person who likes the juicy meaty part.

While I enjoyed the series, I was simultaneously disappointed by it, oddly enough. There were a lot of places for potential growth that Ms. Hocking either didn't seem to have enough space to flesh out properlly or simply ignored (I'm looking at you, Thea as an older sibling angle). What I liked best was the combination of siren and mermaid lore into a cohesive package that didn't feel forced. The characterizations were well done. The drama and suspense were at the right tempo. The books were a great read, but I can't help but feel that with a bit of TLC to certain aspects, they could have been amazing.
I would have to say Wake because it really drew me into the Watersong series. Also, maybe Elegy but I have to read it first and decide for myself but based on what some people have told me, it is a really good book.
