Liz (liz_the_librarian) We will have a thread each week for people to discuss what they are reading. Feel free to comment with what book(s) you are reading.

So to kick things off: Week 1. What are you reading?

I just finished An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. I thought it was a pretty good book, but it was pretty standard YA fiction. Since I started this book before the New Year, I don't think I'll count it towards my actual 75 book goal (I easily accomplished 52 books last year, so I decided to challenge myself to 75 this year).

I am currently reading Eleanor Catton's The Luminaries, which is absolutely incredible. Her prose is eloquent and beautiful. I feel like I am inside her settings. The narrative sucked me in within the first chapter, and I'm finding it hard to put this book down.

I've always wanted to read Gone With the Wind. I think I might tackle it this year. We'll see, though. I get easily distracted by other books since I work in a library!

Natasha | 1 comments "Valley Forge" by Newt Gingrich and William R. Forstchen and also "Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History" by S.C. Gwyne

Pattie Babbitt Hi everyone! Gone with the Wind is my favorite book of all time (but quite a long one to start the reading challenge off with...good for you!). I am in the middle of The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling. I was pretty nervous about her non-Harry Potter book as I had not heard great things about it, but I am quite enjoying it. I am a middle school librarian, so I am going to have a hard time staying on track with the adult books. :) I also get easily distracted in my library by YA titles. Good luck to you all!

Cami Ingrid,
After reading 'Gone with the Wind' you must read 'Rhett Butler's People' by Donald McCaig. It's one of my favorites and really reads like the movie. I haven't read 'Gone with the Wind' yet so I can't compare it to Margaret Mitchell's book. I need to put it on my list too! Maybe this year:-)

I just finished The Cuckoo's Calling! I thought it was quite good. I, too, wasn't sure how to feel about her books outside of the Potterverse, but I really liked it.

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments Luckily I can't see how many pages are in Gone with the Wind since I am reading it on my iPad. I wasn't sure how I would like it, but it has totally sucked me in & I can't stop reading it! I started yesterday & am 1/4 of the way through.
I like seeing what everyone else is reading too. Good to know about The Casual Vacancy k I will have to pick up the Rhett Butler book.

message 10: by Traci (new)

Traci (tardis1974) I read Cuckoo's Calling a couple months back and really liked it. I don't know if she intends to, but I'd love it if Rowling would turn it into a series.

I just finished In the Bleak Midwinter, by Julia Spencer-Fleming. If you like mysteries, I'd highly recommend it. At the moment, I'm about halfway through Fellowship of the Ring, and I'm enjoying it immensely.

message 11: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Matthews Just started a fluff book "Truly Madly Deeply". I am listening to that on audiobook.

message 12: by Cami (new)

Cami Technically, I'm between books. I just finished 'Identical' by Scott Turow. It was good. I hadn't read anything by him in some time. I may have to go back and pick up a few of his more recent books now. I downloaded "The Spymistress" by Jennifer Chiaverini. I haven't started it yet. I really need to start "Remarkable Creatures" by Tracy Chevalier so I can get that read before my book club meets in mid February.

message 13: by Lanette (new)

Lanette (prvrbs31gal) I am in the middle of "Smokehouse Ham, Spoon Bread & Scuppernong Wine: The Folklore and Art of Southern Appalachian Cooking" When I picked it up at the thrift store, I thought it was more of a cookbook, but it's actually a fascinating look at the history of a lot of Southern dishes. When I'm done with it, I plan to start "The Scarlett Letter" for the read-a-classic-challenge. Somehow I got through high school and college without having to read it...

I just finished My Totally Awkward Supernatural Crush by Laura Toffler-Corrie it is YA fiction but I didn't care too much for it... I think young teens/preteens ages 11-14 may really enjoy it though....

My next read is Revelations by J.A. Souders it's number two in the Elysium Chronicles with #1 being Renegade.... so far it is good....

I'm reading Pride and Prejudice this week. It's one of my all-time favorite books and I thought it would be the perfect read to start off the new year.

Horns is a fantastic book! I just listened to the audio book in November and thought it was brilliant. I've always been a Stephen King fan, but I do have to say, I think his son is better at wrapping stories up.
