I don't think that will happen any time soon, his mum and dad used to run the company until about 2 years ago now he is in charge. The good thing is he is out of the office a lot. I'm hanging on in there for my redundancy money :-)
That is unbelievable. I like many parts of my job (I'm a college professor) and am very happy to put up with a lot of headaches with students (to a point). That's my job. But the university administration is - too often - idiotic. Most recent example - in mid-October without consulting the academic part of the university administration, the VP announced an early retirement incentive to get faculty to retire by Jan. 1st - 10 weeks away. Faculty retiring Jan 1st are getting paid for spring semester too without working. We already had faculty shortage, and aren't really sure if some programs can survive. This is idiotic, because how can you have a university without faculty. And back to the stapler - this indicates that this guy is a real time waster - jeez.
Does that mean that some university courses will not be able to finish, as there is no-one to teach these subjects? What would you say if I told you he brought 3,000 mugs with the company logo on and wont let me give them out!!!

What !!! 3,000???
We have programs that have accreditation requiring faculty with specific skills, licenses etc. such as Social Work. The business side of the university is composed of idiots who think they can do whatever they want. But we see this push and pull in all parts of society. The doom and gloom predictions vs. those who go ahead and cut anyway. Often the truth is somewhere in between.
Oh, that's incredible. The stapler and the mugs are outrageous. On the other hand, I had a boss who made us all go into the women's room to show some one had left a drop of pee on the toilet seat. Disgusting but could have been told without dragging us in to view it.
That sounds like a nightmare, Kate. I'm going to to say something I never thought I would...
I hope you're made redundant soon.

I felt like I was in the 1rst grade. I found a new job within three months. They offered me a raise to stay but no thank you.
No# 1 reason for quitting your job all over the world is the relationship with ones immediate supervisor.
I have to say, apart from one idiot, I've been pretty lucky with bosses.

I had a job years ago at a state institution for the mentally disabled. Luckily we had no jerks like you describe. My only complaint was that one of the employees would dress the residents inappropriately. Not that the clothing wasn't the right size or too revealing, but she would dress these poor women in cocktail dresses and other glitzy clothes. She thought it was cheerful but some of us thought it was a bit degrading. But I will say there were some very dedicated employees. I only worked there about 4 months because I was able to get a job as a teacher's assistant.
Like to read...is your boss a moron or is he amazingly clever? He paid by the hour, probably took him 5-10 mins to get that stapled by you...money in the bank as far as he's concerned?I worked with a guy once, took on his job for the day; he was sick. He came back and bitched about how I had done it wrong...I said sorry...he shouted at me how I was pathetic, a coward and not a man because real men don't apologize! I was 15. My mission from then on was to ruin him
Jamie Lynn wrote: "Wow Niall that's terrible!Barbara that shows how people can be. Someone should have told that worker that she was being inappropriate. The residents can't speak for themselves. I could not call t..."
Jamie Lynn - I agree that when people aren't able to speak up for themselves because of physical or mental disabilities or because they are too young, someone else should. Although there is a whisteblower law, I don't know if it applies in the situations you have described. I just heard on the news that several states were finally passing laws to provide family leave. I was surprised because I wasn't aware how few states do. There was some stuff in the news a couple of years ago because many workers in DC didn't have any protection and were getting fired for taking sick days. One of the employers doing this was Whole Foods if I remember correctly.
I have worked for many a moron over the years, thankfully I don't work anymore, that's the upside. The downside is my in-laws are morons. Having discussed this with my husband frequently he has the same opinion, so there it isn't just me. How hard is it for people to have a conversation that doesn't involve TOWIE, One Direction or that dancing programme that occurs on a Saturday night on BBC. These people don't have a life outside of the idiot lantern. Suggest they go and read a book, expand their brain power and you'd have thought I asked them to slit their wrists. Is there any hope for this family? I wonder. This is going on my website, if they're smart enough to find it maybe they'll raise the question with me?

@Ruby, I have no idea what TOWIE is but I get your drift. It's often too bad that we can't pick our relatives.@Niall, Karma is a bitch as your former boss found out.
@Susan. TOWIE (The Only Way is Essex) is a docu-drama (your guess is as good as mine) set in Essex. It was loosely modelled on The Hills, which I think you'd have heard of, but with people who are even more vapid.
Well, I am glad it's an acronym that I don't have to learn. I have vaguely hear of The Hills but have never seen it.
You don't need to see either, Susan. I never watched more than a few minutes of either, but it hurts.
I was about to mention Tallafornia but I also remember there being a program called Courtown Uncovered.
How these programs get made is beyond me.

I cant believe you don't get the same sh@te we do on TV.
I'm a celebrity get me out of here, celebrity dancing thing on Saturday nights. Celebrity big brother, celebrity diving with Tom Daley. Celebrity come dine with me, whenever they run out of other things to dumb down their audience. I seriously think we are turning into a nation of low achievers and it's all down to programmers and money. I shall "put my foot through the telly" its not that I watch these shows, problem is they are rammed down your throat at every advertising opportunity. Has anybody watched the film Idiocracy? This is the future people.

Actually, that's a good point, Ruby. Just because there aren't a lot made in Ireland doesn't mean they aren't here.
And I have seen Idiocracy. I quite enjoyed it.
@Jamielynn. My sister loves that program. It makes me uncomfortable seeing so much of other people's lives.

I loved the film idiocracy because it was so surreal and you could see the connections regarding people that the screen writers had made in making a statement about levels of stupidity. I don't believe Americans are like that, neither do I believe that we are like that in the UK but, many a true word is spoken in jest and I can see the levels of intelligence falling or maybe it's because I'm getting old?

Jamie Lynn wrote: "Oh I bet you never saw Honey Boo Boo! Look it up sometime. It's really embarrassing if people think that's our American culture. Trust me..it's not!"Well, Jamie Lynn... Honey Boo Boo is a product of Southern white trailer trash and stage mothers who think their children are talented.
Believe me...she exists in South Carolina and has a lot of little girls that can grow up just like her...

Here is just an example of today, he walked up 2 flights of stairs to ask me to staple 2 sheets of paper together, I asked him if his stapler was broken???
And his stapler that's another story.
When I first started working for him, all those years ago, I asked for a stapler, he brought a lovely brightly coloured new one, kept it for himself and gave me his crap broken one.
