Heidi Parton (somethinglooseknit) | 8 comments Hi, everyone! I'm a writer living in Columbia, SC. I was an army brat, but I mostly grew up (over 12 years) in Augusta, GA and consider it my hometown.

I tend to vacillate between fiction and poetry, depending on my inspiration and needs, and have been published in Sugar Mule, Obsession Lit Mag and American Athenaeum magazines, among others. I'm currently interested in "literary sci-fi/fantasy" that blends philosophy and psychology with the fantastic--new worlds, new technology, new cultures, religions and philosophies--to say something unique about human nature and the mystery of existence. In that vein, I'm currently working on a novella (steampunk-supernatural) to pair with another novella in the same genre that I hope to publish soon, but I've written realistic stories as well and will probably return to that at some point.

Beyond my creative writing work, I'm also an avid diarist, and I keep a personal blog. Professionally, I'm a website copy writer and company blog editor. So my life is filled with writing. I love it.

Finally, I have two New Year's resolutions: 1) to treat my creative work as if it were a job (not a hobby) and work on it daily; and 2) to find a way to better balance my work life, family life and creative life. I'm hoping that participating in groups like this will help me meet these goals.

As a side note, I'm married and am expecting our first baby in March! I'm sure that my little bundle of joy will pose both a challenge in accomplishing my 2nd resolution for the year as well as give me lots of great writing material (and, of course, a ton of love, joy and domestic adventure).

I look forward to getting to know everyone and being inspired!
