Lesley | 1594 comments JULY/AUGUST POINTS CHALLENGE created by Talia and Kathleen.

This will cover the rest of our Winter Comfort Reading Challenge and could be an incentive to curl up with some of the over-sized books.
This how to score those points-

10 points for over 450 pages
15 points for over 550 pages
20 points for over 650
25 points for over 750
30 points for over 850
35 points for over 950
and for the really adventurous/dedicated readers
50 points for over 1050

Away you go then and don't forget to claim your points when adding your pages.

This one suits me perfectly, as I'm reading a lot of big books at the mo.

None of the books I plan to read in August are anywhere near 450 pages :) But I hope to read HEAPS with Bout of Books Readathon, 18-24 Aug!

Huh, badly for big books. :)

Talia Nyx Do we have a challenge for September or is just reading going to be enough work on its own? It is starting to feel that way with study reading climbing exponentially.

P.D.R. Lindsay (pdrlindsay) | 1760 comments I can never get the books if you all choose them. I have to grab from the library and often they don't have that
particular book.

I just read what I am given to review or books from friends who send me book parcels of library chuck outs.

Just had a great Anne Perry I had never read before.

Yes Talia. I think that's what we'll go for in September - NO POINTS CHALLENGE unless others express a wish to have the challenge. I'm getting a bit behind too,so I'll get the August points/pages totted up shortly. It looks like it might be you and Kathleen again, but I'll let everyone know whose going to be organising the challenge for October before too long.:)

P.D.R. Lindsay (pdrlindsay) | 1760 comments Sorry, Lesley, will try to conform to the rules!!!!

message 61: by Lesley (new)

Lesley | 1594 comments I'm sorry I've not got the monthly totals totted up earlier but they are done NOW!!

Talia wins the most book pages for August by a whole lot! She also one the July/August points challenge with a total of 115 points!

Earned points for July/August were:
Kathleen 55
Talia 115
Sharlene 30
Me 35

Congratulations Talia - you get to come up with the points challenge for October.

message 62: by Lesley (last edited Oct 01, 2014 09:32PM) (new)

Lesley | 1594 comments Talia's challenge for October is Sci-Fi Series

10 points for a first book in a series read

15 points for a second in the series

20 points if you read the third and any subsequent books in the series

I'll throw one in for those who might be reading from our October Activities -

25 Points for each book read in the Off Your Shelf category where the cover has a ghoul, ghost, food treat or halloween pumpkin pictured.

Whoever gets the most point in this month's challenge gets to create the final challenge for the year in November.

P.D.R. Lindsay (pdrlindsay) | 1760 comments Do they have to be books never read or may I read an old favourite series?

I'd like us all to read it sometime as it's great. She writes wonderful S.F.

P.D.R. Lindsay (pdrlindsay) | 1760 comments 2 series actually 'The Pride of Chanur' series which I think every man should read, and also the 2 trilogies of the 'Foreigner' series. All written by C.J. Cherryh.

They are the best of SF in that they are intelligent books, difficult reads sometimes, which make the reader think about our cherished beliefs and concepts. Who wouldn't like a curse 'May all her children be males'!

Lesley | 1594 comments Nobody entered their points for the October points challenge so there is no points challenge for November.

Since there are now just three taking part in the page numbers, I suggest we terminate the challenge this month and declare Talia the BLK 2014 Page Turner Champion with Kathleen a close Runner-Up

Thanks to those who took part. If a repeat of this is wanted in 2015 the decision is yours. :)

message 66: by P.D.R. (new)

P.D.R. Lindsay (pdrlindsay) | 1760 comments I always forget to add up the pages but I did re-read Pride of Chanur and the Foreigner first three.

Sorry not to conform. I do try but time is so scarce it's all I can do get here to mention the books I've read. I am a speed reader which is great but I am not a speed writer. And there's a new novel to finish!

message 67: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Myers | 52 comments If the challenge was offered again in 2015 I would definitely be in :)

Congrats to Talia and Kathleen!
