I hope so to, and thinks, she's
border collie and terrier mix , she's the youngest of our 3 dogs, and she's my reading/ coloring buddy.
Question to all my readers out there. There's a book you are reading but you are losing interest, not a horrible book, just okay but you have a long list of books to read and you feel like you are wasting time trying to finish this. Do you finish reading the book or do you drop it?
I very rarely give up on books. Usually I am reading at least 3 books at a time. So I'll just try to read 10 pages a day or whatever on the less interesting book and then spend more of my time on the other books. But I know most people will say to just give up on the book. Life is too short to read books you aren't really enjoying.
Maria wrote: "Do you finish reading the book or do you drop it?"I finish it. I encourage and support those who DNF/abandon books and wish I could do that, but I can't. Maybe one day I'll get there. The other day I stopped watching an awful film, which was a big deal for me, so that's a start. =)

But because I'm such a mood reader it has happened that the book I pick up just doesn't grab my attention. On such occasions I'll set it aside, pick something else up and eventually give it another try at another point in time.
I even made a standby shelf on GR for those books.
There's no point on trudging through a book that you're not enjoying :)
I typically push through and finish also. But I'm like Catherine and read multiple books at once so I can take short day breaks and then come back to it. But I rarely start a book and completely abandon it.
Thank you guys for the quick responses. I am a mood reader as well Lisa and although I do think life is too short to read bad books, I can't get myself to just drop it. I will read a little bit at a time until I'm done. I'll probably make a shelf of books on standby :)
I am so stubborn I will finish a book even if I hate it. I'll complain about it to my friends and they all ask me why I'm wasting my time reading something I don't like, but I think I am just always hoping a book will get better or more interesting. And sometimes they do! But also I feel like I appreciate the really good books better if I read something I don't like sometimes too. I guess that's a weird way to look at it, but it's how I've always felt.

I had a hard time reading for example, "A Girl on The Train" and after I read it, I actually found that I enjoyed it overall. Some of my favorites were hard reads at first, especially if they are long like Anna Karenina (which I ended up loving). I have a feeling the book I'm reading won't be such a treasure but hey you never know!

Good question Maria. I’ve always had a hard time giving up on a book, for many years I stubbornly insisted in finishing every single book I started. Recently though, I gave myself permission to abandon books that I didn’t enjoy after giving them a fair chance (usually between a quarter and half way in).
I do not abandon books that are so-so or I found somewhat boring, mind you, but the ones that I dread picking up, you know the feeling…If you feel you’d rather do chores than reading, that’s a good candidate :D
I agree with Catherine, you appreciate more good books when you’ve experienced the bad ones.
I also noticed that I’m more adventurous in my book selection, trying books that I think I might not like, (some of these I really enjoy and I may start reading a new genre), after all, if I really didn’t like them I can always give up.
I still find very hard to give up on books though, so I totally sympathise with readers that can’t.
Okay, so I took most of your advise and I'm finishing this book. It is getting better, or maybe it's just my outlook :)
Sometimes it helps to have commiseration in whether to power through a book or not. Hope the book surprises you and makes it worth it.
That is actually true for me also! This group is a great sounding board when I get frustrated. Good luck with the book, Maria!
Nancy Pearl who is a former librarian and now an author suggests the following about abandoning a book or sticking with it. I have been followed no her suggestion.Set a number of pages you will read - mine is 50 although I pretty much know by the first 5 pages - and if you aren't enjoying the book, put it down. But, at the age of 50 or more deduct this from 100 and read that number of pages.
I am 60 which I deduct from 100 and I would read 40 pages.
One more suggestion. Sometimes I begin a book and it's never t the right time for me to be reading it. So I put it aside and pick it up another day. Believe it or not, it took me three tries before I read all of The Thorn Birds.
Hey guys watch out here on Goodreads, someone just sent me a friend request said that they saw my message on For a Love of a Good Book group about wanted more goodreads friends ,and that he would love to get to know me, funny thing is I checked my Goodreads groups and there's no group on there called For a Love of A Good Book. So I said no . So be careful.
I have gotten a few of those types of "friend requests" in the past. I always check a person's profile before I accept a friend request. Some of them are pretty obviously not here to talk about books :) Thanks for letting us know, Elizabeth!
