Let's Chat! - 2014 to 2017
Its beautiful today in Louisville, Kentucky. The sky is clear and the sun is shining and the birds are singing. There is nothing that is going to ruin this day!!! I just finished Michelle Moran's "The Heretic Queen". Not a new release but to me it truly was! Read it if you haven't already! I have to ask.............Who is looking forward to Outlander in September????

Well I think we should be thanking you (and the other great ladies) for making this group possible! So thank you!
What would you all say would be the best name for the shelve of books you didn't finish? I've been checking out GR and seen a lot of different names: could-not-finish, did-not-finish, unfinished, dnf, abandoned, and a whole lot more. Curious what you think!
Creating a shelf for the books I can't get through hasn't been relevant for me yet , but I think DNF would be the most suitable tag for me personally
I don't abandon books, so I have no need for such a shelf, but honestly I think either of those works fine. I would probably use either did-not-finish or DNF, but they are pretty much all the same in meaning.
Hello! My first time here! Just to say that after a great Spring weather here in Switzerland, it's snowing again after some months without!! Can I say crazy weather?? The silver linning is that I wil be spending my afternoon reading "The Loop" from Nicholas Evans.Wishing you a great week (without snow please!)
Spring weather? What's that? Today being the exception, we've been having a combination of rain and hail here in Aarhus (Denmark) since Easter.
Seems like weather in Europe all over is strange for spring. It's snowing today and I hope my Tulips stay inside a little longer. It's actually white on the grass. A little bummer going from havimg had a few days of very warm earlier this year to this. Would have liked sitting in the sun reading, instead it's time for a wool sweather and cuddling inside. Oh well ^^ I'm drinking my morning coffee and enjoying Austen :)
Changing my comment from 3 hours ago where the sun was shining and the sky was completely clear, sleet is now falling..... so that's great :) Not at all depressing weather during the last week of April :DAnd I seriously LOVE snow, so when even I am sick and tired of snow, sleet and hail then you know it's enough already :D lol
Haha, Lisa, I'm in Aarhus too and I basically starting yelling at the window when I saw the sleet xD
Felicia wrote: "Haha, Lisa, I'm in Aarhus too and I basically starting yelling at the window when I saw the sleet xD"Hahaha cool, Felicia! The weather today is driving me nuts! Now the sun is out again, again- ish... I give it 30 minutes before it changes :D
I feel like there's a saying or something along the lines of "the worse the weather is in spring, the better the summer will be" But I might just be making it up :D Wishful thinking perhaps? lol
I kind of hate it that I get an e-mail from Goodreads every time I finish a book. "You finished! What's next?" Well, let's see, I'm hoping to finish the other four books I'm reading, then I'll read the 1,062 other books on my TBR shelf!! Thanks for asking though!
You can edit your notifications if you go to your account. I did that, because yes, it's super annoying.
Thanks Felicia! It's interesting that I just started getting them recently. I've been on Goodreads for years and I didn't change any notifications, but they just started arriving in my inbox a few weeks ago.
How do some of you read 100 books a year? Do you remember what you've read? I can't imagine myself reading 100 books. I would also feel guilty if I couldn't remember anything I read. I believe that if I spend so much time reading, I should at least remember the stories. I am a bit on a reading hiatus. I've picked up a few books but I've never completed them yet. Do any of you have a trick to keep reading? I think I'm like this because I now have a short attention span (been watching too much Netflix haha)

I asked people the same question. Some people even read like 200 or 300 books a year!!! One thing I found out about myself is that apparently I'm a slow reader.... Besides that I work full time, love to go to the movies and yes, I watch a lot of series too ;p
One thing that has helped me with my reading (and finishing books) is the support from this group and all the challenges. Hope it will do the same for you. Good luck and happy reading!
I don't always remember the books I've read no matter how many I read per year! I read a lot because I enjoy it. Some books stick with me more than others. Before Goodreads I kept a written list of all the books I had read. I read a lot of series books and some of them tend to "blend together" after a while. Now that I use Goodreads, I can just look at my account to see which books I've read, and if I have trouble remembering I just read the book description.
Liv, I am with you on how does anyone read 100 or over books a year and I am lucky if I read 50 but the good news is.......at least I am reading! I use to beat myself up that I could not read as much as many of my friends who can read 20 books a month.........I just could't keep up so I quit trying. Pick your favorite and read those, if you end up reading more then that awesome! Enjoy your favorites!
I'm lucky if a get 50-75 done in a year and I read every day, night and day. I'm just a slow reader but it's at my pace so it doesn't bother me.
I find that most people find themselves reading a lot more after joining this group. Some find themself beating their goal of five and raising goal to 20. Some like me used to read between 25 and 40 and now find themselves reading between 75 and 100. It doesn't matter though how many as long as it is fun :) It does matter if you are a slow reader or fast and I find that even though I know how to read faster it destroys the enjoyment of the book so it's the speed I read or nothing. I read as many as I do because of readathons and challenges and because I read multiple. I know friends in this group who read 150-200 + on a good reading year and I probably spend as much time reading as them. But when they get through 70-100 pages an hour, I get through 20-40 :)
Winter, when you say you read multiple, hat does that mean?? I am currently reading six books at a time 4 actual and 2 ebooks. But in all fairness I have recently got my girlfriend to read and we are reading the same book. it's fun and it gives us something to do with each other.
Between 2 and 4 is ideal. In summer it tends to be more because I like to use my other nonlight kindle as well. I might have say a classic going. It's to precious to me to take wherever. Then I also spend a lot of time outside with my cat and reading on the kindleapp is more convenient then so I have a book there. Then I might have a Stephen King on a nonlight kindle because I get get scared easily. Amd I might also have a fantasy hardback going. So that would be five books at once. I think everyone needs to just find their sweetspot. If you like one at a time nothing wrong with that. I just don't have the attention span for reading only War and Peace :P Once I had 11 going and that made me stressed out.
11? Unimaginable to me, stressed out or not, lol. A nonlight kindle??? What's that? And you spend a lot of time outside with your cat, does that mean you have a garden? Would love that!!! I'm at my parents right now cause they do have a garden and it's about 26C right now in Amsterdam (which would be "cool" in Portugal but feels quite hot in Holland). Can't seem to read, just fall asleep. You prefer to read your kindle when you're outside?
We have a small garden yes, but we also walk along the road and into a place with some trees and rocks. I prefer ipod with kindle app when I walk her outside the garden and then a book or a kindle otherwise. Well the Voyage has light so you can read in the dark. But I kept my old kindle too. Just regular, no lighting :) It's very hot in Norway too! So nice though, I love it!
So cool, walking your cat. I just don't dare do that in busy city Amsterdam. I once let her peak outside, she was very curious until a cyclist came by. She was sooooo scared, just dragged me back inside hahaha. Do you have yours on a leash when you walk her outside?
Both on leash and without, but I wouldn't do without on just any cat. She walks towards the road when I take on shoes and I say "Naminé stop!" And she waits. also I smack my tongue or clap and she runs home when there' s a car. We live in the countryside and you can see the cars from afar. Most think I'm crazy for not having her out by herself, but they have gotten used to us walking by now I think and they slow down and smile when they see us ^^ Sometimes she is just loose in the garden and I sit down and read too:)
I usually have few on the go at once too. Usually an audio book, non fic book, book on my kindle, physical book and book on my laptop (to sneak in some reading at work).Just now I've only got two on the go though because I just finished my laptop book and kindle book and I'm abut to move house so all my physical books are packed up. I'm missing them a lot.
I can't wait to be able to get outside to read. I live in a flat at the moment in the middle of Glasgow, we have a shared green space outside but I don't really live in the best area so it's littered with broken bottles and when it's hot the bins stink.
I'm just bought a beautiful little house about 35 minutes from where I currently am that has a little back garden so I can't wait to move and sit outside in the sunshine (with a glass of gin and a book of course).
Also - I don't envy the men I'm paying to move all my stuff because it's basically just all books. I've rented my whole life so I have to buy all my furniture now. I currently only own books and bookcases.
That really sounds amazing Winter! I know Seven (my cat) would love to be outside but with so much traffic I'd be terrified of losing her....Good luck with your move Stefani! Enjoy your garden and reading!
That sounds lovely Stefani!! Nothing like reading in your garden for the first time!I think with a lit of traffic it's just safer indoor :)
I have more time during the day (I am a stay-at-home-mom) and I am an insomniac lol So I read a lot at night. Sometimes I read a book in 2days and other times it takes me a week. I think it is all about time. Have to confess that late last year I started reading short novels which counts as a "book" on my list. The challenge is part of the fun I think
Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me. A while back, I noticed that some of you had a world map to track the books you've read from around the world (an old challenge, I think) but I can't remember whose thread I saw it on. I just need the link to where I can make such a map thing.
Thanks in advance :)

Today I'm thinking how lucky I am to be in this group and to me a mod with four outstanding ladies.
You're all great and it is so much fun to discover new books with you and tick off those tasks.
I wish you all a great week!
