Catherine | 1561 comments I'm a Gen X person. Definitely prefer old school books, libraries, I even still own a VCR (although I rarely use it). I don't even have a BlueRay player yet. And I still buy CDs.

I do have a Kindle and a Nook and I use them occasionally, but I prefer "real" books.

I will say, I love my i-Phone though!

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments I do think us Gen X'ers get the best of both worlds because we get to live in both worlds.

Am I the only one that gets really finicky and nitpicky when setting up in the "Member's corner"? I only joined this group yesterday (or the day before) but I just can't seem to stop fidgeting :D
Anyways, happy saturday!

Lisa, no, you're not the only one! I'm so anxious for it to be 2017 since most of my challenges don't start until Jan. 1! :)

Oh good! I thought it might've been a new member sorta thing. I was just feeling very restless earlier. Very "I've-set-everything-up-now-what" type feeling. I'm excited for the new year and on the flipside not even ready for it to be Christmas yet :)

message 1207: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments I feel the same way! I keep putting possible books in my corner for each of the challenges, planning out my January reading, etc. I didn't make most of my challenge goals for 2016, so I'm excited for a clean slate too!

message 1208: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 1561 comments I'm doing 5 different challenges: The main Reading Challenge, the Mt. TBR Challenge, an Agatha Christie Challenge, The Serial Reader Challenge and the Dewey Decimal Challenge. I signed up for that last one in the Crazy Challenge group, and then saw that this group was doing the same challenge! However, in the Crazy Challenge group it's a "set your own deadline" challenge, so mine has already started.

I actually made myself a chart since a lot of my books can count toward 2 or 3 different challenges.

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments How do you guys choose what genre a book falls into? For instance, I find the distinction between the mystery, thriller and suspense genres kind of blurry? Is it a question of personal definition? Or do you look at it from what it has been categorized as on goodreads? or a third option?

I might just be overthinking this, but I was trying to categorize my reads for the Genre Bingo Challenge :)

message 1210: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments I use whatever genre I feel fits after I read it, or if I'm planning ahead (like for Genre Bingo) and I'm not sure, I'll look at the genres people have tagged it as.

Thanks Cassandra :) I think that's what I'll do. Might have to rearrange my shelves on goodreads while am in the process.

Thanks Lisa! Luckily I have the whole year to do them, so it shouldn't be a problem!

message 1214: by Nick (new)

Nick Green (nickppgreen2014) Completely random deviation, but I love the new 'Group Disccusions' next to your notificiations thingy. It's actually the handiest thing Goodreads have put it....ever.

message 1215: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments I agree! The day before they did that I had seriously been thinking about how handy it would be if they somehow modified it... and ta-dah! 12 hours later and it's almost like Goodreads read my mind!

message 1216: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 1561 comments Yes, I was hoping they would create something to make it easier to find discussion threads. This is a great feature!

Nope lol. I have probably spent over 50 hours on mine and just now am I happy and I transferred to next year ^^

message 1218: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Grønsund | 6163 comments Good to know I am not the only OCD person in here :) It doesn't help that it's my first year and I don't know what to expect, but I've decided to restrain myself and let it be the way it is (for now).

I'm still not sure I am 100% happy, but trying the 'out of sight, out of mind'-approach.

I wish there was a way to find exact discussion threads. I keep up with so many of you. I tried notifications, but then I would get like 30 of them, and that got confusing. I just love to see what you all are up to.

Aaryan | 6 comments GUYS, PLEASE HELP ME...

Please look at my read shelf and based on that (I like fantasy, fiction, sci-fi), I need you to choose one book from these 4/5. It's for my school but I have no idea which one to choose.

1. Touching Spirit Bear
2. Fatty Legs
3. Log Jam
4. Julie of the Wolves
5. (I don't know the exact name but it's a Aboriginal journal (like DOAWK) about living in residential schools; it's name is like "My name is...")

message 1222: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments I really enjoyed Touching Spirit Bear when I read it in school, but I haven't read most of the others.

Thank you for the suggestion! Sadly, all of the Touching Spirit Bear books were taken (they were so popular!).

Sarah - Blessed Mom of Two (sarah1987) Hello everyone! I hope you have a good day today. I am seeking goodreads friends to discuss books with (not that we have to be reading the same one).

message 1231: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments I'm searching time to read lately. I don't know what has happened to my life. I was having a conversation with my husband about things I get to do by myself, and he said "you read," and I sadly said, "no, I don't anymore." I just look at all my beautiful books on the shelf waiting for me to pick them up...

message 1232: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Barstad (maidenoflight) | 326 comments Kadijah, I was like that for most of December. Just either really busy or too tired to take the time to read. I think I have more than made up for that this month though.

I just came to this page to also say I'm not reading much lately! I thought I would start the year on fire and I just don't have the desire to read at the moment. What makes me feel more pathetic is that I mostly listen to audiobooks and I can't even seem to do that. My only excuse is that I am pregnant and I have been feeling terrible. Netflix has become my replacement hobby for audiobooks.

We'll get it together soon :). The book bug will come around to bite us again.

message 1234: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 1561 comments I go through phases when I just can't concentrate on reading. Luckily so far this year I've been getting tons of reading done, but it comes and goes. Netflix is a great distraction! I have a ton of Netflix shows I want to watch.

message 1235: by Kadijah Michelle (new)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Please tell me you all have watched The Crown. That show took me away from at least one book, that's for sure.

message 1236: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 1561 comments The Crown is amazing!! The casting for that show is brilliant. Especially John Lithgow.

message 1237: by Caro (new)

Caro (karopi) | 995 comments I have a problem with TV series and Netflix doesn't help. If I start to watch something then I can't stop. Go all way till last episode. Waiting for a a nice weekend to cuddle with my boyfriend for it.

Erica Olsen (erikarou) | 17 comments I had to work on January 1st, but I went to a big party with friends to celebrate the New Year. Then I snuck a book with me to work and read a lot during break time. Best way to start the year!

Me too Lisa! I'd say I don't even know what I'll do with myself if it's not brilliant especially with that cast and behind the scenes lineup, though if that happens I doubt I'll do much more than just complain pointlessly for a bit. ;)

@Caro, there's even more where all that's come from! Just off the top of my head HBO's Big Little Lies is starting tonight, and Netflix are promising Anne of Green Gables and Thirteen Reasons Why shows as well. I put in "tv shows based on books 2017" to find some more, and got so many links back I don't know what to do with them! The Cuckoo's Calling is definitely standing out though, and we might even get the new Watership Down and The Golden Compass shows too, which'd be great! :)

Kadijah Michelle (kadmich) | 2176 comments Anne of Green Gables was my introduction to great book mini-series as a child. It is now my favorite way to watch books on screen. I love many movie adaptations, but nothing beats a great PBS or Master Piece adaptation. I am so looking forward to American Gods.

Speaking of American Gods, I nominated that book because one of best friends had been asking me to read that book for years. She actually keeps a library card themed pouch with her that she lets her friends sign when they have read the book along with the date. When I signed it last night, I put our group down with January. My friend, Allison, who is now a member of our group, said you all are awesome!

I'm so flippin' excited for American Gods. Especially for Ricky Whittle playing Shadow. I LOVED him as 'Lincoln' from The 100, so I don't doubt that he is going to be perfect for this show.

Paul Emily Ryan (kickbackyak) It's World Book Day in the UK and Ireland today! (We're too busy being out of school and celebrating dragon killers to have it in April with everyone else.) Have some Irish books to celebrate; any of these I haven't read I've been meaning to read for a while (or reread), and they all come fairly recommended at worst. http://www.dailyedge.ie/good-irish-bo... :)
