I have to tell you all something that has blown my mind! First, I have know about The Talented Mr. Ripley for awhile. I never saw the movie, but Matt Damon is in it, so it's been on the radar, and I knew the plot line. Last year at a three for one sale, I bought the book at Audible, and I just got around to listening to it. And wow! It's fantastic! I won't tell you much because I already knew too much, but it's really good, and I just found out it's a series! Has this ever happened to any of you? Have you ever stumbled upon a book or series that has made your year? And what was it?

I've been wanting to try that series. Is The Talented Mr. Ripley the first one in the series?I discovered the Hazel Holt Mrs. Malory series last year and I was really happy. My favorite cozy mystery series is the Christine Bennett series by Lee Harris, and I put that series into Yasiv to find one that was similar to it and that's how I found the Hazel Holt ones. Yasiv is awesome for connecting books!

Caro, I'm very sorry for your grandma. I know how difficult it can be to live far away when a dear one is ill. I moved to Luxembourg when my mother was just recovering from a breast cancer and was actually having chemotherapy, and it was really hard to be far from her in that difficult time. Of course you're even farther away, so it's even more difficult.
On the other hand, I'm very happy you found someone you love and who loves you, I bet this helps a lot in this difficult time! Is he Polish?

Hi Caro.
I hope everything works out with your granma. I'm sorry she is ill.
And for the happy news, that's nice to hear ^^ Always helps having that support through tough times too :)
I am sure most of you have already heard that the musician Prince died today. I've been watching CNN and seeing a lot of nice tributes to him. He was such an innovative performer!
I'm finally reading a book that I chose to read! I am A school librarian so I am often reading Junior Fiction or picture books (not complaining) I am 5 chapters in the Unbecoming by Jenny Downham I had to force myself to stop reading it because it was 1:23am and I had to be to work at 7:00am the next morning. So far so good. I will keep you all posted as I near the end...when ask the question to read or not to read...READ!
Great observation, Marina! We mods may have something up our sleeves for this milestone, so keep your eyes open. :)
Marina wrote: "Hey! I've just noticed we've reached 10,000 members! Wow, time to celebrate! :-)"Yeah, I've been watching the number. Yesterday it was at 9,997 when I looked! Big difference from December 2011 when I was the 12th member :)
I can't believe you can remember your member number! That's so cool. When I joined in late November 2013, I think there were around 3500 members.

Thanks Marina!!!
Yes times have been quite hard at the distance... I also had a couple of years ago my mom operate from Cancer and could not fly to be there for her... Thanks that everything went well
And My Grandma... I was planning to travel but by a miracle she is getting better so the trip is on hold (that is good)
And about love... Yes he is polish so my polish skills are improving and hopefully soon I will not make so many mistakes talking (never had polish classes so to learn by my own has been tricky)... Actually this is a curious relation because we work in the same office and nobody at works knows so is like having a double life... Good think none of them is in Goodreads so they will not find out from here :)
Lindsay wrote: "I liked the book version of Under the Dome but on TV it just became really ridiculous. Hard to believe it made it to three series. I will look forward to 11/22/63 now :-)" I've never read the book, but I've seen the movie and I stopped after the first season. It was ridiculous.
Caro, I'm so glad your grandma is getting better!I know what you mean about improving your Polish skills thanks to your boyfriend, I know many friends who have learned a new language (also difficult ones, like Finnish for instance) totally from scratch just thanks to their boyfriend/girlfriend. That must be so fun!
So I've been a little MIA lately, and part of it has been work, part of it has been buying a house, and part of it has been...
My husband and I are excited to add another reader to our family!
Aw, Kara, congratulations! Welcome to the new human! Not that's this is an excuse for your absence, however...
Kara that is so exciting! I wish you a stress free pregnancy and you'll have to keep us posted on how everything is going! :)
Congratulations Kara! That's amazing news and such a lovely way to announce it too. Wishing you all the best.
Congratulations, Kara! I love the announcement. I still think it's so cool how you and your husband share the love of reading. :)
Yay Kara! So excited for you! Rachel, I go through reading slumps every so often, and they are terrible. The one thing I will say about mine is I can't force myself to get of it. Instead I just ping-pong around books until I find something that catches my eye again. And, sometimes I just need to completely quit trying to read for a week or so and then go back to reading. Hope you get out of your slump soon!
Adding my congratulations here too. I'm so happy for you!! And I loved your picture too, such a cute way to announce it ^^
When I'm in a reading slump I turn to poetry or short stories. They're quick to read, so you don't have to be motivated, but you still get the feeling of having accomplished something. I suppose graphic novels would work too.
Another idea is to read a book with a fast tempo, you know, a lot of action. Bam bam boom, type of thing.

I tend to take these moments as breaks my brain makes... Follow the recommendation of short stories that does not required from you to concentrate a lot... If you are not happy with the book change to another one and do not try to force yourself to get back in the reading cycle again, it will come back naturally
Kara many congratulations!!! So good that you are adding a new member to your family!!! My best wishes, and for sure that is the best reason to not be around!!!

A bit of a rough month with a lot of my mind threw me into a slump in April. What I did was turn back to a series that is short , fast books that tend to draw you in. It helped, I'm now reading a YA and enjoying a lot :)
I'm on vacation right now and thought I would have plenty of time to read, but I have been too busy! Maybe I can finally finish one of the books I brought with me on my flight home in a few days.
I added a book (short story) to my currently reading shelf, finished it, and it refuses to be recognized on my 2016 Reading Challenge... Has anyone else had this problem? I should mention it was a re-read, but I have re-read books before and it still counted them.
Nevermind... I'm a dodo bird. The dates weren't changed. It usually does that automatically when I re-read books but I guess it didn't this time!
Happy weekend everyone!!! I am slowly going back to my reading life and enjoying it! I am also starting to listen audiobooks, was unsure at the beginning but with non fiction books I am doing good, I put them as physical books in goodreads, otherwise it will not count the pages, something that I consider quite unfair because still is in my mind... Is any of you listening audiobooks? Do you count them?

You're not a dodo bird. Goodreads can be confusing sometimes! Especially if you're using the app -- there are so many things I can do on my laptop that I can't do on my phone.
