I used to read in my other works... Was so nice I had the job done and was able to do whatever... Now I became a manager and the story is totally different, come early, leave late no breaks for reading and my only real break is for lunch that if I do not relax in that time I will go crazy..... I am happy for my professional grow, but sometimes I do miss the freedom I had before... 8 hours and out... My plan is that in the future I will get an office just to me will work less and close the door to pretend to be very busy working but in reality very busy with books...

I used to be a proofreader, I wish I could have that job again, but at an actual publishing house or something fun like that. :)
I am kind of in a weird place on where to shelf a book!! :)--So, I started to read this book (won't name) and I absolutely HATED IT! You know how some books you start, but think "Wow, i could be reading something so much better!".
Well, that was me with this one particular book.
So my problem is, I have a shelf labeled: NOT Reading again and NOT FINISHED/NEVER WILL. but I don't know if I should put the book under "Read" "Currently Reading" or "Want To..." because I don't want the book to go under my reading challenge. It was one of those books were you push to finish, but cant get past the dang 2nd chapter! It was that bad... So what would you all do?
I only want books I have finished to be in the reading challenge and I just couldn't do it with this book nor did I want to give myself credit for reading another book off the challenge when I did'nt...! (Plus this may help in the future!)
Thanks so much for your opinions! :D
I wouldn't count it toward my reading challenge either if I didn't finish it. If you move it to the unfinished shelf and it still shows up as being read on your challenge, you can go in and change the date of when you started it so that it doesn't show up there.
This post is a downer, but I have to get it out, so I'm going to spoiler it for anyone that doesn't want to read it.(view spoiler)

You don't sound like a 3 year old wanting your grandpa back. It is always a relief when they aren't suffering anymore but at the same time, forever is a long time to not have them in your life anymore. I recently lost a grandfather too and I know exactly what you are saying with unsure how to feel and feeling terrible that it's slightly a relief. I'm here if you ever need to talk!

Here's a step-by-step guide. I have one called "didn't finish": https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/2...
How do I create a "Never Finished" or "Abandoned" shelf?
You can create your own exclusive shelf for "never finished", "did not finish" or "abandoned". Here's how:
1) Click on My Books in the header.
2) Next to the "bookshelves" header on the left, click the small "edit" link.
3) On the bottom of the page, type "never finished" or "abandoned" into the "add a shelf" feature.
4) Check "exclusive" next to the new shelf when it appears on the list.
This will allow you to assign a book to this shelf, instead of having to pick between the default "read", "currently reading", and "to read" shelves.
Hi Bobbi,You aren't supposed to feel anything specific. You're just supposed to allow yourself to feel. I think you are doing it right :) Big hugs, and may comforting light shine down upon you.
Bobbi,Thank you for feeling comfortable to share with us, and I'd like to echo Andrew and Kate and say that whatever you feel is justified - there is no how-to manual for grief. Hugs and warm thoughts are headed your way.
Thanks for these instructions. It always bothered me that a book I shelved under "did not finish" would still count as "read". It's only been 6 over all the years I have been on Goodreads but still annoying!
Thank you, guys. Sadly, studying the grieving process and living it are two totally different things. His funeral is Tuesday where he will have military honors and presentation of the flag by the honor guard (he was an Air Force veteran). Now that we have all of the arrangements made, it's starting to sink in.
Lots of hugs Bobbi, and prayers to you and your family, I know what it's like to lose a family member,my Dad passed way On August 8,2010 bad thing about that was it was about 8 days before my 33th birthday, I was always close to him more so than my mom, he was the one that always backed me when it came to my reading habit, even when he was in and out of the hospital in 2009 and 2010 I was the one that stayed with him. So I can understand what your feeling and going through.
Good luck at the funeral, Bobbi. Both my grandpa and my great uncle were in WWII so they had military honors at their funerals. They are such beautiful ceremonies but so sad. But that's all part of the grieving process too. It's so tough. Don't be afraid to cry.
Bobbi no matter how much we know that our loved ones are in pain and that perhaps death is the only solution for their suffering we are never to let them go. I was living with my grandmother when she died, I knew that she was living extra hours and that she was most of the time in pain was hard to let it go, Takes time to move on and to feel calm again. Think on him and the great things he did with you when he was alive and be glad you had him with you for enough time to remember not only the pain but the great moments that made him not only your grandfather but also a second father. Hope you find soon enough calm in your heart to see all the good he left.
I feel really bad about something that happened today ... I got upset at one of the librarians at my library. I put in a request for an inter-library loan and one of the reference librarians e-mailed me and told me I had to submit the request to my "home library". I wrote back kind of a snotty e-mail because I have had a library card there for many years and haven't lived anywhere else in over 20 years. Then one of the other librarians wrote back to tell me that I had skipped a digit when I entered my library card number, so they thought I belonged to the library of the town next door. It's kind of funny how badly I overreacted to that!
Oh Catherine, I'm so prone to that same kind of reaction. I always feel terrible afterward, because, well, I'm also prone to beating myself up! I think your approach is so much better, seeing the humor in it, maybe an apology if appropriate circumstantially, and moving on. I don't know how many times I've had this kind of reaction even though I've had many jobs helping the public and "know better"! :)
They were very nice about it ... I wrote back immediately and apologized and they said it was no problem. The really funny thing is that I have used my card recently at the other library, which I almost never do, so I thought I had somehow screwed myself up by doing that. Oh well. They are getting my book for me, so crisis averted!! :)
Hi all, just finished watching 11/22/63 on Hulu which is based on the book by Stephen King. I recommend the book and I highly recommend the series. James Franco is amazing in it!!

Hi all, Last night I finished Natchez Burning and it was a really heavy read, but really good. After I finished it I had a 2-hour break, before starting Hope to Die.
I need something easy and fun, so yeah.
how are you liking it? I am on book 4 of the Alex Cross series I prefer his Women's murder club series
@Blagica: (Sorry, I'm on the iPad app and there is no "reply button")So far, so good. It's been a while since I've read a JP book.
Catherine wrote: "Hi all, just finished watching 11/22/63 on Hulu which is based on the book by Stephen King. I recommend the book and I highly recommend the series. I read the book first, but I don't think it would matter that much since the show leaves a lot out. Both are very good, they just had to leave a lot out because of time constraints I think.
Not like Under the Dome then! I will record it and see if I can fit the book in first. I normally like to read the book before watching the film or series. Thanks for recommending it.
Under The Dome? Thats only - what - 800 pages? Try The Stand or It - they're longer. i'm aure The Stand is like 1.200 pages.
Funny story about Under the Dome. I had bought the book at least a year before the show was going to start, and then when I found out they had made it into a series I thought I should hurry up and read it, so I did. Then the whole time I watched the show, all I could think about was how different it was from the book! 11/22/63 isn't like that. They do have to leave some things out and change some things around, but it's very true to the themes and main plots of the book. If I wasn't so behind on my other streaming TV shows, I would totally just start over and watch it all again. I'm hoping I'll have time to do that this summer. I really liked it a lot!
Gah. The TV of Under The Dome was horrible. I gave up on Season 3 when it started doing all that time travel stuff - reminded me of Lost.
I liked the book version of Under the Dome but on TV it just became really ridiculous. Hard to believe it made it to three series. I will look forward to 11/22/63 now :-)
I didn't even make it that far. I don't think I even made it all the way through Season One.Wow Nick, you had the 1,000th post on here!!!
Catherine wrote: "Lindsay, definitely the book (Under the Dome) was better!!"Totally! In general I normally enjoy books more than their film versions. The vision in my head is not the same as the director's interpretations. The dementors in the Harry Potter movies are just wrong for me, and I can't get my head around Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher! You can't please all of the people all of the time I suppose.
I was the same as you Lindsay, I couldn't picture Cruise as Reacher. But, to me, Cruise has NEVER made a bad film.
I've watched the film twice and love it.
I just had to let go of my (ANYONE's) idea of Reacher and try to enjoy the movie for what it was. It's a pretty good movie actually. I got to meet Lee Child last year at a book signing and he was SO nice!!
Hi Everyone!!!I just joined the group. I am currently a full time school librarian and occasionally work sub in the public library. I am from the smallest state Rhode Island. I have a long to read list and I wanted to stay up on adult and YA books!!!!
Catherine, that's so cool that you met Lee Child! He's my dad's favorite author.Welcome to the group, Charlene. :)
I got very overly excited when I met him. My heart was pounding so fast! He was very nice. I had asked the event organizers if I could bring an extra book from home to have him sign and they told me no, but I snuck one in and he was happy to sign it for me. I purposely took my favorite book of his which is "Echo Burning" and then he mentioned that book in his Q and A later (which I prefer to think he did just for me)!

Hello everyone!I read Collective Mind book and wondered one question.
According to the book every person can sell creativity from his/her brain and ask for that everything they want.. money, house and so on. But the rest of his life live like " a vegetable". And it's becoming a popular trend! So many people live a wealthy life.
So I wonder what will be your choose? Money or creative?
Hello all!I have been that active reading lately because my life has change a bit... I have good things (imagine the song love is in the air when I say this) and this new good think takes me a big part of the time I usually have to read... But since he is also a reader I am slowly getting back in track...
The bad things... My grandma is in the hospital and I am far far away it hit me hard but thanks to the good things I am not alone in this hard time for me... So hopefully my reading will be back on track soon... Right now I change my reading plans for Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the Endand it helps me a lot. Is focus in the public policy of US but still have many things to say and it allow me to move in this though times for me.

It would be very difficult for me to choose...I've been lacking in money and in creative inspiration for a long time now. So both are very appealing. If I had to choose one at the expense of the other...wow.
I'm at a standstill. I cannot choose. I want both to be a part of my life.
