Candiss (tantara) | 1207 comments Please let us know if you're reading, planning to read, or have read Range of Ghosts by Elizabeth Bear.

No spoilers in this topic, please!

Beth (beth95) I'm in! :-) Very excited about this book--been wanting to read it for a while now.

Antonis (antonakis) | 43 comments I just started reading this today and I'm at chapter 3 (about 10% done). My initial impression is rather lukewarm as I haven't gotten used to Bear's writing style yet. Apparently, she likes to describe ordinary and everyday things at length. Still it's too early to pass judgement as I usually don't expect to get hooked by a book before the 25% point.

Nyssa | 213 comments I plan to read this, but much later in the month. I have a few books ahead of it.

message 5: by Jon (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jon (jonmoss) I read this a month or two ago. It was good, but I won't be re-reading it. If anything, I'm going to read the second book in the series.

Jo (jomixedbookbag) | 35 comments I listened to Range of Ghost as an audio book. Don't know if I would have gotten through a paper copy. I would like to be part of the discussion.

Another one that I would like to get to but haven't managed to get hold of it yet.

Steven M Long (stevenmlong) I've got a copy, I just need to dig in!

Maggie K | 298 comments Just finished this the other day and loved it! Now I have to get time for the next in the series!

Sandi (sandikal) | 338 comments I read the first chapter this morning. Is it about Genghis Khan? I'm pretty sure the guy who survived the battle in the first chapter has the same name that Genghis Khan did before he became Genghis Khan.

Sandra (sleo) | 1141 comments Started this today. I haven't read Elizabeth Bear before.

Candiss (tantara) | 1207 comments I've got a copy and will probably start mid-week. I've only read one book by Bear before, but I'm a sucker for pretty much any steppes/horse peoples story, so I have high hopes for this.

While this was one of the things that didn't appeal to me, I'm confident you're probably gonna love this then...

Sandra (sleo) | 1141 comments I'm listening to this as an audiobook. Can't say I'm enjoying it much so far. Finding it rather pedantic.

Sandi (sandikal) | 338 comments Who's the narrator?

Sandra (sleo) | 1141 comments Sandi wrote: "Who's the narrator?"

Celeste Ciulla who I've never heard of, but she's doing a good job.

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) Started this today. I'm glad I'm reading this because the book comes with a map, and the printed names are easier for me to grasp. Whenever Al-whatever and all those Qa's and Qe's and Ts's are heavily in use, my acquired first language English brain centers go tilt!

Jo (jomixedbookbag) | 35 comments i listened to Range of Ghost and really liked it. What I love about Elizabeth Bear is how she uses words to paint a picture.

Aster (asterlea) | 9 comments I joined this group forever ago, but this is my first time actually participating!

I started this book a while ago, but it's been slow going. Bear seems like a great world builder, there's tons of detail about how and why everything is done, but I've yet to become engrossed in the characters or the story. There are parts that look like they could get interesting, though, so I'm still going at it.

Jo (jomixedbookbag) | 35 comments I listened to Range of Ghost and agree that there is a lot of detail about how and why. As I listened I did think I would not have lasted reading the book, I would have put it down unfinished. However it is a great book to listen to.
