I'll watch it - I've only seen two or three episodes (don't really watch tv much!) but I thought they were very good.Although I often fall asleep after 9 #partyanimal
I've told hubby he either goes to bed before 9 or he gets his jammies on to cwtch up with me to watch it.It has to be watched live, else there'll be too many spoilers tomorrow.

It's not as good, but Jonny Lee Miller plays Holmes very differently. He's much more vulnerable, I think.
I haven't enjoyed the latest series as much, though. ;-(
I'm looking forward to it, hoping I'll still be awake. Think I'll be ready for bed before then so I can go to sleep straight afterwards :)

It is, I like that one as well but I don't get a chance to watch it very often as I don't have Sky!
I really, really enjoy Elementary! I got Emma hooked on it too :DI like both, just in very different ways.
I've seen both series' several times over. I think this is maybe my fourth time with Mother.
I am hoping to full avoid spoilers because I'm going away near enough straight after.

I've really enjoyed the pairing, although I was sceptical at first.
So what did everyone think to the first episode?I was very pleased to see the banter was as good as ever, and I really liked John's girlfriend! Sherlock was as clueless as ever about relationships, which I loved.
I really enjoyed John's reaction to Sherlock turning up out of the blue, alive.
But...
I didn't feel the story was as slick, too much need for explanation. The scene at the end in the train carriage, split in two by an explanation scene, didn't really work for me. It seemed out of place.
But now that's out of the way I'm hoping things will go back to normal.

She is, yes! His name is Martin Freeman, I'm not sure about hers. I thought it was soooo cute when I heard they would be in it together!

I liked it. They completely suckered me in by the opening "explanation" of his death, which I was huffing and puffing about in its ridiculousness, only for Lestrade to echo my opinion with a riotous voiceover. It wasn't the slickest of episodes, but the character developments over the 90 minutes were well executed, especially the relationship between the two Holmes boys. (view spoiler)
I love the Sherlock/Mycroft and Sherlock/John relationships. They so very nuanced, perfectly acted out. You can tell what they're thinking, everything that *isn't* being said. It's what I love so much about the program.Random aside: I love the name Mycroft!!!

It's good to have it back on our screens. Sheridan Smith (that's if I'm right about the name) is a welcome new cast member. Can't say I was impressed by the storyline - the idea of a disused underground station directly below the HP where a driver had managed to leave a whole car on a line that was magically unused by any other trains was just daft, but interaction between the characters is as entertaining as ever.
I think that's what did for me... The plot did not draw me in, and the constant flashbacks gave me whiplash... But, I do like the actors :)
I thought the storyline was a bit complicated, I did like the idea of (view spoiler) and the bonfire bit.P.s. I liked the development with Molly too :)

I think it was just too much. They needed to concentrate on Sherlock being back, John finding a way to deal with that, and Sherlock coming to terms with all that had changed.The *mystery* seemed like a tacked on after-thought, out of place with everything else that was going on, and rushed.
There were too many threads, the bonfire bit was enough of a mystery on its own.

Actually, after hearing everyone rave about this I have decided that I will give it another try, but I'll look for the first series on dvd before I start any of the newer episodes.

Dear Karen,Although it is a severe setback in our relationship, as you are trying to correct the fault by giving Sherlock another try, I am willing to overlook it.

I did get confused with the break away to a confession during the train bit.
Loved Sherlock and Mycroft playing that game. So not expected.
When the people round the bonfire heard his voice, why didn't they break him out? Would they have left him die?

Oooh, yeah! Forgot about that! All I could think of was 'dead body' which isn't much of a spoiler for Sherlock! Thank you :)
The actual story was a bit weak, I thought, given the very obvious forerunners who I won't mention here for spoilerific reasons.Really the whole episode was about the big reveal of Sherlock's survival, and the writers had enormous fun teasing the fanbase by exploring several of the more outlandish theories (I must admit the opening sequence was very close to my own personal theory). Fans don't like to be teased, which possibly explains some of the more... extreme reactions on Twitter.
My personal favourite line was the reaction when Sherlock finally revealed how he'd done it :)

The episode was over long too and too much of that irritating editing where they speed up and slow down the bits of scenery between scenes for no reason than someone got a new editing suite for christmas.
Unlike previous episodes of this and every episode of the Matt Smith Doctor Who I didn't fall asleep part way through, so there is that.

An interesting blog piece, but I question whether the author has read any Conan Doyle lately. Sir Arthur's writing style was often very brisk especially for the time, with slight of hand and leaps of plausibility at every turn. Of course audiences have changed in the 120 years or so since Holmes made his first appearance (and was quite smug from the off set), but for me Moffett and Gatis are keeping the spirit of Conan Doyle very alive.
I like Sherlock,don't get me wrong - much better than a lot of TV & Gattiss & Moffatt are eminently froopy droods, but the groovy production thing seems to get in their way too much.It is almost as if good writing, good acting and a damn good tale aren't enough for the TV hipsters unless they can bury it under a metric shedload of bells and whistles.
I've read all of Conan Doyle's original Holmes novels and stories, and I liked the modern take when the first series of Sherlock was shown. But this new one seemed about half an hour too long, as if once Holmes and Watson were reunited, the writers gave up on having a credible plot and padded it out to fill the time. Or maybe it was just hyped so much that we were expecting something really dramatic?

There was a small problem with the railway carriage at the end there - the one with bomb. Now I watched with my husband who is a bit of a train knowitall, and he pointed out a: the tunnel was too low and therefore we were in a different tunnel as tunnel roofs don't touch the top of a train; and b: it was a very old carriage - the type that now runs on the Isle of Wight! That they had refurbed the insides of. Continuity not good here...

I noticed Watson got off at Euston Square after travelling on a line not served by it but for me it was just an eyebrow raise and in no way spoiled my enjoyment of the show.
I think it's something you just have to expect - I'm not familiar with London/tubes at all and would never have noticed. But anything set in Edinburgh I immediately notice actors miraculously popping up in random spots around the city! Take everything as a film set location rather than a real place, settings chosen for their appearance, after all it's a fiction not a travel guide :)
I watched it again with my family last night, who hadn't got around to watching it when it was on, and I did find it a bit better the second time, I spotted things I'd missed the first time though.
I managed to cach this and thrilled that their (view spoiler) looked just as I imagined it in (view spoiler)I'm not tbe biggest Sherlock fan, but I enjoyed it all the same.
Cucumberpatch (A.K.A. Sherlock!) is back tonight and we'll finally find out how he survived jumping of a building at the end of the last series.

For me it's the banter between John and Sherlock and Sherlock's complete social ineptitude! The guy has NO filter!!!
