M.G. King (mgking) | 727 comments Our Book of the Month for January is Fledgling, the first from the Jason Steed series by Mark A. Cooper. Fledgling (Jason Steed, #1) by Mark A. Cooper

Note: There are several books with the same title, so make sure you find the one by Mark A. Cooper. School LIbrary Journal pegs this title for the 5th to 7th grade crowd.

From the GoodReads description:

Tormented by his mother's death...
Taken for granted by his father...
Trained in deadly martial arts...

Jason Steed is looking for a place to call home. He finds what he's looking for in the Sea Cadets-an elite group of British youngsters being groomed for lifelong service in the military. But when a routine training exercise goes awry, Jason finds himself in the middle of a secret mission. The future of the world hangs in the balance...and Jason might be the only one who can save it.

Happy reading!

Melissa Hmmm.... this book leaves me a bit baffled honestly. I understand why it may be a favorite among younger boys but at the same time it does have moments and actions that I am not sure are right for the age group the book is meant for.

Hannah, Thanks for telling us why you liked the book! I'm about halfway through, and I'm very relieved to know that Jason doesn't eat anyone, LOL.

Melissa Hannah said:and Jason Steed was hot lol. (That was a big winner too, maybe not for boys but I think the action covers everything they need for their small brains)

I love this comment! lol

I think Jason was a very good character, actually all of the characters personalities were well written.
