Leah Murphy (lkautzmurphy) Hi everyone! My name is Leah, and I'm not really new to Goodreads but just starting to visit the group side a bit more now that I have internet(strange to hear, I know...I live in a very small town in MT where many folks still have dial-up).

My favorite books are historical fiction, outdoors and travel(fiction and non) and mysteries, though I will read just about anything you give me. I am currently struggling with an addiction to the bookshelves at the local thrift stores that is leading to needing to get more actual bookshelves at home very soon :o) Looking forward to chatting with everyone!

message 353: by Rowena (new)

Rowena (tirilien) Hi!
I'm new to both Goodreads and the group. I live in Australia with my young family. I read just about everything, particularly Historical, scifi/fantasy, crime, horror, contemporary fiction, classics... well just about everything!

Hi :) I came across the goodreads website and this group quite randomly...but so far I love it. It is a great place to find out about books I want to read already and maybe learn about some new ones I might not have tried.

message 363: by Patyco (new)

Patyco | 1 comments Hello!!

My name is Silvia and I'm from Guatemala.

I read the description of your group and I found the perfect place for me. It is very difficult for me to find people who share my little addiction. I am the only one who reads in my family and friends. According to my mother I started to read before walk.

A phrase I always remember is from a Guatemalan writer that says: "Reading is like breathing, eating or sleeping essential for life. For me to enter a bookstore is like an alcoholic going into a bar."

That's a great quote Patyco!

Rosanne Cedroni | 23 comments Greetings! I'm new to this group and I'm hoping that I've come to the right place ;-)

I wondering if there's a way to discuss a book while you are still in the middle of reading it. For example, I'm currently reading "Erewhon" and I'd love to discuss it with someone else because I'm sure that I'm missing a lot of the finer points. I found the page where people write reviews of the book after they've finished it - but I don't know if they would be willing to hash it out with someone who's a little confused :-)

Thank you!
rosanne

Patricia (pg4003) | 148 comments Rosanne, I'm still not real competent here, but maybe you could join one of the Reading Groups and then post your question there? Welcome to Goodreads!

message 372: by Rosanne (new)

Rosanne Cedroni | 23 comments Thank you so much for getting back to me! I did go into another discussion group and I found one that seemed perfect BUT there hasn't been any activity on it for a long time. I'm going to try it anyway, you never know!

Again, thank you!

message 373: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (pg4003) | 148 comments Maybe you could start your own discussion thread? Again, I'm not sure how to do that either, sorry. I'm just good at suggestions, not how to do them!

message 374: by stormhawk (last edited Jan 31, 2011 08:06AM) (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments Rosanne, just start a thread here under what you think is the most appropriate topic heading. On the book's review page there should be a list of threads where the book is mentioned by using a title link.

I might give it a try after I clean up my TBR a little bit, I have five books going at once right now.

message 375: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 441 comments I'm liking THE BLACK ICE very much, by Michael Connelly. a suspense drama. harry bosch finds his way into a crime scene angered that he has not been called in. he almost gets his pants in hot water when 3 cases are innertwined; the first guy murdered used to live in mexico, where black ice or tar heroin is sold. two other cops are murdered after him. What is going on? Why are cops being targeted?

message 376: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Dutton | 19 comments New here so I thought I would introduce myself. I joined GoodReads last month after I found a review about a book that I was looking to purchase. I had no idea about all the things that it could do. So far, no friends :( No biggie, I don't have a lot of friends that do alot of reading, so it is not a suprise. I will read pretty much anything. I stick to fiction mostly. I like romantic suspense and Christian romance the most, but I switch genres alot so I don't burn myself out. I just got a Kindle, so I have found myself reading even more since I have so many books at my fingertips.

Thanks for letting me share.

stormhawk | 1184 comments Andrea, welcome to Goodreads and Book Haven!

Since you like Christian Romance, I'd like to suggest Candace Calvert. She has three books so far, and all of them are quite wonderful reads (She's also a really nice and gracious lady ... I've had some email correspondence with her).

Michael Bray (mikebray) | 6 comments This is the first group on GR I've joined. I like the concept, since I love almost all writing genres. The same with music. Good music and good literature know no boundaries.

Thank you for your suggestion. I've joined another group where there are "book buddies" which is what I'm looking for (however, I will probably finish the book before I find a buddy, ha!ha!)

I hope you get a chance to read this book someday - it is fascinating but very strange. Luckily there's a lot of humor that break up the parts that are more convoluted.

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 375 comments Hi, all:

My name is Cheryl Landmark and I'm new to Goodreads (well, relatively new--I joined in October 2010). I'm both an author and a totally addicted book reader. My favourite genres are fantasy, mystery, suspense and paranormal. This looks like a great group to belong to for fun and interesting discussions.

message 386: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth8921) | 2233 comments Have you read Greg Olsen's books? "Starvation Heights","Abandoned Prayers" and more and I understand he has just done one on the Chilean miners.
He lives near me so I hear quite abit about him.

message 387: by Nessa (new)

Nessa Hi!

I'm Nessa. :)
I am somewhat new here (only found the site a few days ago) and this group looks great. I love all types of books. I like to read a lot of PNR, but I am also into authors like Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Dan Brown, James Patterson, Sandra Brown, and lots, lots more. I think this group will be great for me to get ideas for books and series in genres other than PNR (as much as I love them, a girl needs variety, lol).
Looking forward to getting to know you all and having some good discussions :)

message 390: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline Howett | 6 comments Hi everyone! My name is Jacqueline Howett, I look forward to meeting you all. I like a variety of fiction, and some spiritual, and the at times non fiction and biographies and my classics. Do surprise me, but nothing extremely gory. I am enjoying reading so much more due to the Kindle library and a variety of new authors. I havent listed very many books actually that I have read as yet, there have been so many.

message 391: by Madeira (new)

Madeira | 1 comments Hi everyone! I joined this group because even though there are categories like PNR, fantasy, UF, romance and others that I'm especially interested in I often surprise myself by liking books that don't fit my categories at all. And this looks like a group that has a bit of everything :D
Due to time pressure 99% of my books are audio - I couldn't live without my MP3-Player!
Looking forward to interesting discussions and good recommendations.

message 392: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (goodreadscomkeridwynn) Hi all! I'm new to this group, but not Goodreads. I was looking for another reading group to join and this one looked very friendly and fun. I recently decided to take advantage of the 8 or so hours I have each week to listen to books while driving back and forth to my night classes. Thus, as you can guess, my favorite type of books right now are audiobooks and the library is my friend when it comes to finding my selections. I like to read a little bit of everything, or at least try something once, but do enjoy mysteries, some paranormal/supernatural stories (though not so much PNR), historical fiction/non-fiction, anything that makes me really think (which can help with my late night drives back especially). Looking forward to meeting others here, with their recommendations and discussions!

Welcome!
If you need some suggestions on good audiobooks let me know. My husband is addicted to them, and I recently began listening to them before bed. I'm somewhat picky about the narrator for audiobooks. I've read some where I could hear the narrator smack his lips or the voice just didn't fit the character. So, I could definitely recommend some good ones and steer you away from the bad ones! I tend to lean towards paranormal or fantasy when it comes to audiobooks... :)

Jessica (bookfairy76) Hi everyone. I am new to this group and new to this site. I am having a great time exploring the site. I love to read almost anything so this group looks like fun!

message 397: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (pg4003) | 148 comments Hi Jessica, welcome! This is a great site for organizing your books, and to get recommendations from other book lovers.

message 398: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (goodreadscomkeridwynn) Thanks for the welcomes :)

I've been very fortunate in the audiobooks I have found so far with the narrators being very good and not had ones where you can hear them smack their lips/breathing, etc. One I recently finished listening to who I thorough enjoyed was Erik Singer. He was able to do a French accent, British accent, American and Southern without any trouble at all and which made the story's characters really come to life. I think it would have been a bit boring, had I just read the book on my own.

message 399: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth8921) | 2233 comments Intesting comments Keri. Must try an audio book.

message 400: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (goodreadscomkeridwynn) I think I've gotten spoiled with audio books now, Elizabeth. I do hope you will try one--but make sure it's a really great narrator so that you'll get hooked like I did.

The book I was referring to was The Poe Shadow in case anyone was interested.
