There is a certain confidence that comes when you chop off the hair. :). You would just have to experience it.

I keep what I call "a look book" which features all kinds of natural hair styles from fades to locs, from Bantu knots to all types of braids and everything in between. It really helps me with my characters personalities.

I like short hair on other people but feel my own pretty is missing when it's too short.

Maybe I should qualify that statement? :)
I think that maybe for you Pagan, it's a cleansing rites of passage. You were starting a new chapter in your life or having a metamorphosis so to speak and the change is completed when your hair reaches it's desired length. For me it was freeing and a confidence booster. I feel more beautiful. It's helped me to see beauty in others. People either love it or hate it. Like I said, I and hubby love it (who is AA, BTW), people outside of the AA community love it, but maybe not so much on the inside. We have been conditioned to desire straightness and length. That's not to say that people shouldn't do what they want with their hair, but it shouldn't have to feel like it's mandated. That's all. :)

LOL I feel the same. They are making a statement that black is not beautiful enough. Sad really. It's one thing to mix up features of the heroine but honestly some of these authors consistently create black women with " caucasian " features.
I'm not going to lie either, after a time I stopped reading books with breathtakingly beautiful women. I just got so tired of reading about it. Make the man fall in love with something other than her looks. Maybe her personality? Her demeanor? An attraction even if she is not the most gorgeous woman on the planet!? IR's are following that trend though....every woman is beautiful beyond comparison.
@Savannah I completely understand! I was so mad while reading I wanted to say in my review some people should not write! I just didn't want to be mean but it was so bad I don't understand how it made it pass the editors. And it was so confusing to read!

Connie, also since gaining weight I feel my face looks too fat without more hair to balance my missing cheekbones. ;)
By the way, I just read the synopsis of the book that started this discussion. It sounds so silly, but y'all are making me want to see how bad this got.
Connie, also since gaining weight I feel my face looks too fat without more hair to balance my missing cheekbones. ;)That's cool too. It's what fits you and your personality Pagan. I won't judge you for having hair. *hehehe*. :)
Okay, I'm done derailing the thread. :)

Truly, no joke. Here..I'm cropping half my face off because its a truly tragic pic of me.

I see the resemblance Savannah. :) I would have done the same thing in your position. Not the cropping your picture, but skipping the book. :)

There definitely is a resemblance. Yeah, reading a romance with your ex in mind, would be weird. LOL

Oh, I've got a few of him in my photobucket account. I've had it for like 7 or 8 years now and don't bother to go through and organize or delete anything because I'm lazy and I figure sooner or later anything I get rid of I'll end up wishing I hadn't. Case in point-this thread LOL. Easy to find too since they sort by "oldest" or "newest". I just go to the beginning and there his ass is. Ugh. And you're right-good reminder.

Guys, I really worry about Savanah because she keeps her feelings so bottled up all the time. ;)
Okay I just finished
. It was cute, with a few small ticks. Normally not a big novella fan, but like Yvette Hines for some reason.

Whatevs, troublemaker!K, so I'm reading Black Gold by Vivian somebody or other and I just want to take a moment to say I absolutely HATE IT when an author uses "darling" when its clear she means "darlin'". There is a huge, ginormous, IMPORTANT difference in hotness that should not be ignored.
Ok. That is all.
So I finally finished reading To Whom Much Is Given after many instances of giving up on the book because of too much backstory that didn't add anything to the story and then I have to wonder--why does the author market this book as focusing on a love triangle when the third party in the love triangle is barely even in the book? Dean--the British aristocrat--appears in around five scenes! That's it! You keep waiting for him to pop up...no dice! Grrr!

You hit it on the head! The men are showing their behinds as usual. It's a really good read so far.
I'm reading Love Out Loud (half way through) and so far I really don't like Randall. He's a jerk but because he's "nice" it's supposed to make him a good guy? No no no, not for me!He wants everything and as much as he says he doesn't want to hurt Benai, his dumbass refuses to recognize that that is exactually what he is doing. Too selfish to admit it.
I wanted her to refuse him so many times. Not to play games but to stand her ground and not give into his sweet demanding ways.
Ladies I just discovered the awesome fantastic books by Kenya Wright. I read An Arrangement of Love, Flirting with Chaos and Complicated by You. She writes these wonderful IR stories that are not the norm. I think that's why myself as well as so many others are loving her books!
I just discovered Nikki Winter. I read
first to get a taste of her writing It was really good. Classic case of a book i wish were much longer. So then I got
. Didn't like it as much as the first book. Take Shelly Laurenston's characters and dial them up to 20. Everbody was too much 'ON' all the time. Still, there is something about her stuff I like. And I want to keep on with her.She has some really bad covers though.
Reading
I am not feeling this book at all. The mob life seems overly simplified and the instant love from the characters turns me off.

I ran across her name and was wondering if I should give her a try. Maybe I'll sample the same one.

I kept thinking, "okay I know he's white. Why does it have to be in the title? Why can't it be Desired by the Vampire?" I know it's a picky little thing but I couldn't get passed it. I'm curious to know if it's any good though (of course then I'll regret not 1-clicking it) :)

LOL! I was so ashamed of myself for getting this one as a freebie because of the title! Someone really should have talked the author out of titling her book "White Vampire"! I'm too embarrassed to add this to my Goodreads list!

I could understand that! It does want no make you do a face palm. LoL! :D
@Connie, I liked them both in different ways, although I would say that I really liked Eagle's Heart the best. It was full of action and suspense and was just different than a lot of IR books. You can actually just take the fact that it is an IR book out of it really. There's a lot of background on the hero being Armenian, but the differences in race in terms of her being black and he white aren't an issue. There's plenty of drama without it! Both books are worth reading though. As soon as I get a few consecutive free moments I'll be writing my reviews for both of them.

It's very cheesy, but overall, it's OK for a free book.. Hopefully this writer will make some improvements with their next book...

I was thinking the same thing... Like this one would be one of those books that I just would not put on my currently reading list, lol!
Twin ObsessionsTwin Obsessions by L. Langdon is a great story. I finisihed it in 2 days. Please dont let the cover distract you from the story within. The cover is u-g-l-y, but the love story inside is great. 5 star rating!!
