Suze | 764 comments I'm reading Keri Arthur at the moment, but don't know how far I'll get in the series, before I start to get bored.
I've just finished

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Full-Moon-Ris...
5&keywords=keri+arthur

and

Kissing Sin (Riley Jenson Guardian, #2) by Keri Arthur
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kissing-Sin-J...

and am in the middle of
Darkness Unbound (Dark Angels, #1) by Keri Arthur
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Darkness-Unbo... Full Moon Rising (Riley Jenson Guardian, #1) by Keri Arthur

Which is a different series by the same author

Suze | 764 comments It's put an extra book cover in there and won't let me remove it. I'll get the hang of these covers one of these days :-))

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) | 2568 comments Just finished The Importance of Being Earnest, which yes, was on my class-list but yes, I was avoiding Tom Thumb and Richard III. Richard is a great play but a nightmare to teach...too many people with the same name.

message 105: by Empress (new)

Empress (the_empress) I started yesterday The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon by Elizabeth Moon and I am loving it.

message 106: by Emma (new)

Emma (rpblcofletters) Just finished Chocolat
Chocolat (Chocolat, #1) by Joanne Harris

Going to start Candide tonight.
Candide by Voltaire

message 107: by Emma (new)

Emma (rpblcofletters) Just finished it!!! It was really good :) so fast paced, especially since it was written in 1759!

Going to start The Princess Bride now :D
The Princess Bride by William Goldman

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) | 2568 comments I started to read that some time ago, somehow got distracted. Must get back to it.

Struggling to read Fielding's Tom Thumb. Ugh. Have to read it for class. Ugh. I hate reading "contemporary" parodies for which most of the sociopolitical irony has been lost in the mists of time. Kind of like Shakespeare's jokes about pancakes and mustard in As You Like It...a play so weak that the epilogue basically says, "Yeah, we know...it's so bad it doesn't even have a name...call it as you like it."

message 109: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) The Undertaker's Cabinet by David Haynes

I've posted my review for David Haynes' latest novel 'The Undertaker's Cabinet', like the authors other books I recommend this as a must read for all horror fans:

http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...

I'm now onto Raising Steam (Discworld, #40) by Terry Pratchett

message 110: by Linda (new)

Linda Just finished The Silver Mist by Martin Treanor . The Silver Mist.
This book took me through an emotional rollercoaster and will stay with me for quite a while. Would not recommend it to anyone who has just went through watching a loved one lose their fight to an illness as I myself have. Too close to home at times.

Not sure what to read next....

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) | 2568 comments Back to Kafka on the Shore. Not my favourite of Murakami's so far, but I've read half of it in one day, due to getting the princely amount of 2.5 hrs of sleep last night.

message 120: by Empress (new)

Empress (the_empress) Almost done with The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Dark and depressing, just how I like 'em.

Thank you for the ride in the time machine, Flo! I love it when I hear an old song that I've forgot..."

There are some songs that you recognise immediately and some of the ones that really get into your psyche - make your hairs stand on end. One of these songs (for me) has recently been used in an advertisement and it made me feel really angry. How could they take a song as beautiful as this one below and trivialise it's impact by using it for an advert?? GGGrrrrrrrrr!

Jim Vuksic Just started reading The Testament by Eric Van Lustbader (Author of The Bourne Legacy).

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) | 2568 comments I must go back and read Candide. I read it at 16 when I was a college freshman and really didn't "get" it.

Finished Streetcar Named Desire, thank goodness. Well written but I don't like it because I grew up around people like that. For Blanche DuBois, read "my oldest sister." Ugh.
People think I'm weird because having come from a background of family alcoholism, abuse etc I don't like to read "dark" books about those topics. I tell em I had enough of that in the first 20 years of my life, and reverberations of it for the following ten. This here is my life, now, and I fill it with more positive things. Escapist? Maybe, but that's fine with me.

message 126: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) I've just finished reading Raising Steam (Discworld, #40) by Terry Pratchett , which isn't the best of the Discworld series, but was a decent read:

I've now started Jupiter War (Owner Trilogy, #3) by Neal Asher

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) | 2568 comments Finished Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami
Unfortunately, didn't like it much at all. He could have cut about 100 pages of it to an advantage. And not one sentence I wanted to quote, which is unusual for Murakami. His prose is usually hypnotic for me, draws me in willy-nilly. This one was nilly, Willy.

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) | 2568 comments Currently reading Richard III by William Shakespeare

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) | 2568 comments Reading Pirates of Penzance.
Yawn.
I hate musicals, anyway, with one or two exceptions.

message 139: by Emma (last edited Mar 29, 2014 08:41AM) (new)

Emma (rpblcofletters) I finished The Birth of Venus, then I started The Smile but the description wasn't specific enough and it completely ruined my day! So I stopped. Then I just finished Exit the Actress but it took so long because 1) I was writing a lot, due to the pain that The Smile caused me [go read my review, if you want to know], and because 2) it wasn't that great. Now, I'm reading The Four Seasons: A Novel of Vivaldi's Venice.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) It does look interesting Elyse - but a bit pricy at the moment..... so I'll play the waiting game and see if the price comes down.

Michael Brookes (technohippy) The Dulwich Horror of 1927 by David Hambling

I've just finished reading The Dulwich Horror of 1927 by David Hambling which doesn't appear to be available any more, which is a shame as this is fine Lovecraft inspired read:

I'm now onto Reversion: The Inevitable Horror by J. Thorn.

Reversion The Inevitable Horror (The Portal Arcane Series, #1) by J. Thorn

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) | 2568 comments Started Kokoro. Don't know what I think of it yet. I don't know if it's the translation but I'm having trouble relating to the characters. I wonder if this "Kokoro" is any relation to the people in The Gate, but I don't want to read the reviews because they often have what I would consider spoilers.

message 148: by mrbooks (new)

mrbooks | 2016 comments Just finished Prince of thorns, It mentions the game of thrones and refers to the game far to often, But on the whole it was a good read. I was going to give a quick synopsis but thought better of it in case someone wants to read it. Don't want to spoil it for anyone.

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Reversion The Inevitable Horror (The Portal Arcane Series, #1) by J. Thorn

I've just finished reading Reversion: The Inevitable Horror by R Thorn and despite a bumpy start it develops into an excellent horror story:

http://thecultofme.blogspot.co.uk/201...

I also read The Collectors by Ryan Thomas which was a fun short story, but all too short.

I'm now re-reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman.

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) | 2568 comments Just finished an audio book of Murder Must Advertise read by the inimitable Ian Carmichael and really enjoyed it on those nights when sleep is hard to find. Makes a change from reading my ebook till my head aches.

Also finished Ballet Shoes. Good late evening read. I will never grow out of kids' classics.

Finished Kokoro a day or so ago. Disappointed. Not bad, just kind of meh.
