Malcolm Noble | 0 comments I take it the group is here to read one Christie Mystery each month. So ... 9 years and some to go!! I'm an avid Christie reader and collector and look forward to your company. This month's selection is Styles?

Mark (markvanvollenhoven) | 28 comments Somebody tell me what the 1st novel is so that I can pick it out of my collection or get it at the library.

excellent I believe I have that one myself.

Rebecca Pierce (thensingsmysoul77) | 5 comments Yay! Nine years of reading Agatha Christie! So we'll be reading them in the order they were published then?

message 6: by Malcolm (new)

Malcolm Noble | 0 comments Hey! Hope not. Hope our moderator goes for variety. What do others think? Made a good start today on Styles; it's much better than I remember it. Haven't read it for years. Do we get a long service medal at the five year and nine year point?

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 367 comments Cool! I will have to head down to the library and pick up a copy. I have read one Christie book and have one in my collection unread. Just a suggestion but every once in a while can we suggest a book when the month is near?

I'm excited to be part of this new group!

message 8: by Mark (new)

Mark (markvanvollenhoven) | 28 comments Found out that I do not have a copy of this one, the library does not have one either. Ordered it through a 2nd hand shop, I expect it somewhere next week. So please do not finish it before I get started.

message 9: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca Pierce (thensingsmysoul77) | 5 comments I'm still waiting for it to come in from the library, it may take awhile, but I'm a fairly fast reader, so hopefully I can still catch up...

Malcolm Noble | 0 comments Lauren, might be an idea to choose February title now so we can all get a copy.
Also, here's the text of my latest tweet
@MalcNoble A rare Sunday off. I have been reading Max Mallowan's Memoirs. Fascinating man who writes his autobiography as if he's talking to you alone

message 11: by Mark (new)

Mark (markvanvollenhoven) | 28 comments Yep, Lauren time to make some choices:

Will there be a fixed sequence in reading the books?
Will each member pick one for the months to come?
When will you decide how to pick the next one?

Being the moderator you get the enviable choice of making decisions.

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 367 comments I will hopefully get the book soon from the library. Anybody that had or has been having trouble getting one from your favorite book depository should ask if they could send a copy from one in your area to your favorite one. I just tried it! I did that for the other one that I read too last year.

Can't wait to get my hands on the book "Styles..."

message 13: by Candace (new)

Candace (cprimackqcom) I have never read them in order and have always wanted to. The other Christie group reads them out of order and when I saw we were starting with book one, I was excited, hoping that this group differs by planning to do them in order. Doing it that way would also make it easy for us to know what book is up next unless the moderator decides to maybe switch it up from Poirot to Marple every now and then for variety?
I just found my old copy of Styles last night, it has tabs and notes all through it! I'm looking forward to reading it again.

message 14: by Malcolm (new)

Malcolm Noble | 0 comments That would make it easy to see what's coming ... but we'll have to suffer some not so good ones at the start. However, seeing how the books develop would be interesting to see and talk about that. I'm enjoying Styles much more than I remember doing so when I first read it.

Mark (markvanvollenhoven) | 28 comments 2. The Secret Adversary (1922)
3. The Murder on the Links (1923)
4. The Man in the Brown Suit (1924)
5. The Secret of Chimneys (1925)
6. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (1926)
7. The Big Four (1927)
8. The Mystery of the Blue Train (1928)
9. The Seven Dials Mystery (1929)
10.The Murder at the Vicarage (1930)
11.The Sittaford Mystery (1931)
12.Peril at End House (1932)

Would be the choices if we read in sequence of publication. And together with Styles the 12 books for the year.

True! One thing I have always found kind of fun is looking back at the earliest book in the series and then going over the ones following to see how much the writer has matured in their craft.

Some real choice ones there!

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 367 comments It's interesting that the library book I just got is two books in one. They put Poirot's first and last tale of his that Christie wrote together (I guess since the as the sleeve says they take place in the same location the Styles Court!).
It's amazing that Christie has written nearly forty stories about this interesting detective!

message 19: by Candace (new)

Candace (cprimackqcom) I've never seen an omnibus like that!

Yeah I was surprised too. I think that some time in the future I will check out the book again to read of Poirot's final case. :) It would be exciting!
