I would say yes ☺

message 102: by Tati (new)

Tati Thanks!

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments Heather wrote: "If I have a book for purple cover but the dust jacket isnt purple but the actual book is would that count?"

I just posted this on the wanted buddy thread, but no, it wouldn't count.
The color underneath could be anything, and i'd only know if it was if i have the same edition.

Amethyst (Guardian, #1) by Heather Bowhay"

Yes. :)

message 105: by Tati (new)

Tati Thanks, Abbie! Already wrote it down on my list of books for this challenge.

Elizabeth Emily Browne (snakesandladderrs) | 2186 comments what is contemporary and what is dystopian? Also does breaking dawn from the twilight series count as mythology? x

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments Elizabeth wrote: "what is contemporary and what is dystopian? Also does breaking dawn from the twilight series count as mythology? x"

Contemporary and Dystopian are genres. It will tell you if books fall under them in the tag list on the books page.
Breaking dawn wouldn't count for mythology, sorry!

message 110: by Mei (new)

Mei (meijey) | 3810 comments Dystopian is set in a futuristic setting. Usually the government makes it hard for its citizens to live. Popular examples include Hunger Games, Divergent, The 5th Wave, Legend, etc.

Contemporary is set in modern times. Most contemporary reads are also chick lits or realistic fiction books.

message 111: by Tati (new)

Tati Breaking Dawn would fit as paranormal, vampires and, perhaps, love triangle

message 112: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments Tatiana wrote: "Breaking Dawn would fit as paranormal, vampires and, perhaps, love triangle"

Yes, or 350+ pages. :)

On each books page on goodreads, on the right hand side, you should find a heading 'Genres', this list will tell you if a book counts as dystopian/contemporary etc.
eg: A Million Suns (Across the Universe, #2) by Beth Revis - on the side says 'Science Fiction > Dystopia ' ☺

Here are some examples of dytopian books - https://www.goodreads.com/genres/new_...
and contemporary - https://www.goodreads.com/genres/new_...

Alley Kat (alleykat666) | 743 comments Just a silly question. Since we get double points for Buddy Reads, do we get two points for the Buddy Read square?

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments Alley wrote: "Just a silly question. Since we get double points for Buddy Reads, do we get two points for the Buddy Read square?"

You get your point for the book read, and the point for the buddy.
The only way to get bonus points for crossing blocks off, is to make a line. (Which will give you 5 extra points)

Heather | 10157 comments Would The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith be a contemporary?

message 126: by María (new)

María | 2037 comments the books the group is already reading count? I mean Across the universe can be my buddy read square?

onceuponatimeareview | 2335 comments Do we make a line for each topic we pick or do we check off the boxs?

message 128: by Tati (new)

Tati No, you check of the boxes. Suppose you want to do the third row. That means you need one book with a blue cover, one book with vampires, one buddy, one book with multiple POVs and one with a flower on the cover.

onceuponatimeareview | 2335 comments Thanks i got confused.

Rachmi | 4882 comments Sarah & Abbie, I wanted Everblue for Spelling challenge and have read 7 chapters. I think it's less than 10% but then I didn't have time to finish it. Can I use it for Bookish challenge instead?

As long as you read it within the challenge dates, using Across the Universe as a buddy read is fine ☺

I'll have to let Abbie answer that as the 10% rule was my strange amendment to the rules for the series-read-along challange.
Chapter 8 starts at 14% on my kindle though, and it's only 304 pages so it wouldn't have fallen under the criteria for the amendement to the series-read-along challenge anyway :(
It's up to Abbie though.

message 134: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments Sorry Rachmi, it wouldn't count. :(

You still have about 22 hours to submit review for the festive spelling though. :)

message 135: by Rachmi (new)

Rachmi | 4882 comments I can't read much for the next 22 hours :D That's why I decided to keep it on hold. That's okay, though. I'm going to read it soon, anyway. Thank you......

Noella (kookiemonstar) | 3613 comments Would The Name of the Star (Shades of London, #1) by Maureen Johnson satisfy the mythology block? (Jack Ripper myth?)

message 137: by Sarah Elizabeth (new)

Sarah Elizabeth (bookworm_sarah) | 90920 comments Mod
er Jack the Ripper wasn't a myth, he was a real-life serial killer.

message 138: by Heather (new)

Ohh sorry my bad! I googled Name of the Star and mythology which turned up some results (my ignorance is so embarrassing T_T)

message 141: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments It will tell you if a book has mythology aspects in it on the books page in the "tag" section. :)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Noella Don't worry about it. He was a pretty sick dude (like to slit the throats of prostitutes) so he isn't really the type of guy you want to know about!

That's okay, don't worry, you wouldn't believe the things that I don't know! I get lectures over how bad my geography is ☺ ha ha!

message 144: by Noella (new)

Noella (kookiemonstar) | 3613 comments I was trying to fit Name of the Star under the first column of the challenge (I just bought the book today) but I'm struggling to fit it in with my other reads :( Maybe I'll put it aside for another day.

@Abbie : I shall go check out the myth tag now~ Thanks
@Rachel: Sounds like Name of the Star will be a chilling read !
@Sarah: Hehe, I feel like I should add some non-fiction to my reading list for 2014 now

message 145: by Abi (new)

Abi (abi_gr) | 27659 comments Noella, it would count for "350+ pages" "Set in the past" "People on cover" and "first in series" :)

message 146: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Noella I think it will. I am going to be adding it to my tbr list now.

message 147: by Noella (new)

Noella (kookiemonstar) | 3613 comments Oh wait! Can I read the Name of the Star for 'Title that starts with your initial' or because the title starts with 'The' it can't count?

Abbie, it's not set in the past hon :( I suppose it's based on a historical figure, but its set in 2010?
