London publishing company, Bloomsbury, accepted Rowling's Harry Potter and the Socerer's Stone at the urging of the CEO's daughter, who was enamored by the book. Prior to Bloomsbury, Rowling had been rejected by nine publishers including: Penguin and Harper Collins.
Rowling certainly revolutionized the bestseller list, along with creating a much needed reading buzz amongst children and adults alike.
Numerous awards, Forbes listings, movies, novelty items...and 400 million copies sold...and in the end it was still the foresight of a child that found Rowling worth publishing. Innocence IS bliss!
Lessons to be Learned:
Authors: You never know who will pick up your book and find it amazing. Whether it becomes a bestseller or not isn't always of consequence, but how it helps or relates to a reader...any reader, big or small...well that's the most important part of all. It's why we do what we do! Your book will make a difference in a reader's life.
Readers: Authors don't write for themselves. They write for you...so that you may laugh and cry and gasp and shiver and hope and feel and grow and.... one day find yourself not wanting to turn the page because it is the very last one. In a sense, we are all wide-eyed children when we read a book we just can't put down. Find an author you can endorse. Your opinion will make a difference in a writer's life.
