Charlotte Jones (ramblingsofanelfpire) I thought it would be good to talk about our favourites of this past year and the reading/book resolutions that we will be making for 2014!

Charlotte Jones (ramblingsofanelfpire) I have many favourites this year but I think I'll just pick 6 to keep this a little shorter because I could gush forever about these books though they aren't in any particular order.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern I read this as part of this book club and it shot straight to the top of my favourites list for the year, just so magical and realistic.

Chocolat by Joanne Harris This was an unexpected one for me and my first try of magical realism. Just need to watch the film now.

The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom Another unexpected one that I just picked up in the library and ended up loving.

Half Blood Blues by Esi Edugyan One that not enough people talk about and it is such a rare take on the WW2 era.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury I read this just before it was chosen as a book club pick but I loved it so much and took so much from it. It's the kind of book that makes you want to write an analysis XD

Every Day by David Levithan This was an amazingly deep and emotional, yet heartwarming, magical realism YA book that I loved!

My resolutions for 2014 will be to finish more series, read more classics, take part in more book club reads, buy less books (to cut down my TBR) and to read less short books in order to tackle more of my longer books. What does your list consist of? :)

Omg this is a difficult list to edit down, I have loved so many of my 2013 reads.

Anyway, here's a list of my most remembered and cherished books.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak this made me laugh, it made me cry but most of all it haunted me for weeks after finishing it. I loved the writing style and didn't want the story to ever end. I just hope that the proposed film isn't a let down.

The City of Dreaming Books (Zamonia, #4) by Walter Moers this was my first book by Walter Moers. It's translated extremely well. I found it a bit weird at first as the protagonist is a dinosaur but the world created in this story was anything but childish. It was bizaare and funny and even quite scary at times but it kept me hooked until the very last page.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke this was a book group read from the summer. I wasn't sure what to expect from this one, I'd read lots of mixed reviews. Anyway I was pleasantly surprised. I found it quite a quick read despite it's size because the story flowed so beautifully.

Now for my 2014 resolutions. They're very similar to Charlotte's resolutions (and probably most other book lovers/collectors lol). I definitely need to read more than I buy this year but I know I'll find that near to impossible. I would like to venture out of my comfort zone a little more whilst catching up on lots of classics and sequels. All in all I really don't think that I have enough spare time for all the reading that I would like to do but I'll try my best :)
