ValeReads Kyriosity (kyriosity) | 113 comments I have two editions of A Wrinkle in Time on my shelves -- one print, one audio. I keep trying to change the edition of the print one, but the action keeps changing the edition on the audio one. Is there any way to make it change the right one? Or should they be combined, anyway?

Thanks!

ValeReads Kyriosity (kyriosity) | 113 comments Interesting. This time I tried changing the print edition by clicking on one of the other editions thumbnails right on the page rather than hovering over the current edition image and clicking "Other Editions," and it worked! So...mischief managed, but still an odd little quirk in the system.

I do hope Goodreads someday gets sophisticated enough not to have to lump all editions together. I like Amazon's system of noting "This review refers to another edition." There are many instances when multiple reviews of a book by a single reader would be desirable: This edition's translation, narration, illustration, editing, typography, cover, etc. is better/worse than that one's. Of course I'm sure there's nothing original in that wish, and the usual business about beggars and horses applies, but sometimes a girl's just gotta say these things out loud. ;^)

Goodreads does have this already. In very faint letters after the stars ratings of a review it will say "review of another edition". You can click that text and see what edition they reviewed.

Glad you figured out what was going on otherwise.

ValeReads Kyriosity (kyriosity) | 113 comments Ah! Thanks, Bookworm, that's definitely news I can use! But can one individual review multiple editions? For instance, I know people who have read every English translation of Beowulf (plus the Anglo Saxon), and have valuable things to say about them, but as far as I understand the system, they can only have one review, correct?

Yes, if they shelve each edition they can rate/review each edition.

I for example rated two different editions of this book: Casting the Runes - I linked both reviews below since I don't know where they show up on the community list to you.

Review 1 - not happy with edition

Review 2 - happy with edition

ValeReads Kyriosity (kyriosity) | 113 comments Oh, golly...I think I'd've had to reject that first one simply on the basis of the horrid cover! ;^)

So much to learn...so much to learn. I did a little experiment, and sho' 'nuff was able to rate two editions of the same book. Thanks for your help, Bookworm! You are two for two today!

That was the only copy my library had, so I didn't get much choice. So I bought the other edition.

In future, this sort of thing is not a Librarians Group issue, but one for the Feedback Group. Librarians can help with issues pertaining to specific book records or most related issues, but have no control over general site functionality or related issues. Closing thread.
