David Hadley Well, ideally an author should take criticism of their work with the same grace as they accept praise.

After all, whether good or bad, it is just an opinion and equally valuable in the quest to become a better writer.

Having said that though, as a writer it is always a sound investment to stock up on a crate of voodoo dolls for use against anyone who expresses even the slightest negative feelings towards your masterpiece.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments So if I said that your books made me physically sick to even think about never mind actually contemplating opening and reading them and they should all be burnt along with any ideas for future books you are thinking of writing to spare the world unnecessary pain and anguish, I would most likely suffer from acute and inexplicable pains with no diagnosable medical cause?

Quite possibly.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Well, in that case.

Have I ever told you how wonderful your books are, David?

Hang on... just let me check your dossier.

No, according to this you haven't... yet.

Give me a minute to... er... put this doll and these pins back in the box, and then you can tell me how wonderful ALL my books are, including the ones you haven't read and those I've yet to write.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments :o)

The ones you have yet to write are going to be the best books ever written, especially the one where you write about people who do things.

Yes, indeed.

I've got a great idea for a book about some people where some stuff happens and then some other stuff happens and the people do some stuff because of the stuff that is happening.

Then the stuff stops happening because of the stuff they do and then they have a cup of tea and everybody lives happily ever after.

Except the baddie, of course, who gets all dead because she wrote something nasty on a Goodreads group about some weirdo author's books and she dies from acute and inexplicable pains with no diagnosable medical cause.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Sounds like a gripping read! I don't think you could think up a worse baddie, she sounds like a right spoiled brat with lots of other bad words thrown in, a bit 'Cruella-esque' if I may say so.

Well, yes. I've had run-ins with that type before and the way they so cruelly disparage poor helpless authors.

The sort that invents cruel and needlessly-elaborate methods of torturing and killing the protagonist while she sits there laughing at his torment and stroking her puss... er.... well, anyway, you get the idea.

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Well I have 38 books in my "unfinished" collection.
A lot of them are freebies I picked up when I shouldn't have. I don't want to delete them as I want it on record on my Amazon account that I own them so I don't waste my time on them again.

Can I go first and name an author on here I don't like :). Ooooo, I mean their work, not them hahahaha.

I took one look at Ian Ayris's book and decided it was so not my thing. I also hate poetry, so Stuart Ayris, I'll not be reading your book.

We all like different things, even though in this group there seems to be a lot of loving going on. I do smile when I check out reviews and I'm thinking "know him, know her, know her, know him" If I didn't know any better I'd sometimes think it was review swapping.

Thank you, Rosemary and Sarah for including two of my books on your list. I'm genuinely humbled.

I adore Andy but I know his trilogy is absolutely not something I would read ever.

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments The beauty of books is that there are more than enough to go round to suit every person of every taste - now that's not so bad, is it?
