Joy | 1116 comments Looking forward to this challenge this year! I knew I wouldn't make it in 2013, busy with a huge move and lots of traveling, but hoping to make this goal again this year!!

Wow! Finished my first book within the first 12 hours of the new year! This is a new record for me for sure!

Good job! I slept for 10 of the first 12 hours of the new year! ;) I enjoyed the Giver quartet and I thought Son did a good job of tying up all of the books. I am glad that I waited so long to read them and the first 3 were already out! There's such a gap between books!

Thank you!I know what you mean about the gap! It took me a bit to sort out who was who in this last one. lol. I am looking forward to the last one in the series. I will probably get to it this year! LOL

Joy | 1116 comments #2-The Friday Night Knitting Club

I got 2 finishes on the first day of the year! Not expecting any more now for awhile, as I just started two rather long ones.

Stacie (stacieh) | 1945 comments Two days into the new year and you've already got two books under your belt. Nice! Now, that's what I call a good way to start the year :)

Karol Joy, what is your opinion of the Lorna Barrett books?

message 17: by Joy (new)

Joy | 1116 comments They're fun. Like Joanne Flukes Hannah Swensen series. Just quick fun easy reads when you need something light and fluffy.

Light and fluffy! Some days, I'm all for THAT!

Joy | 1116 comments Tell me about it! I'm reading Game of Thrones right now! Lol I'm gonna need a dose of "light and fluffy" when I'm done with this sucker!

Lol oh yes you are!! Such an intense, and at times tedious, series! But it's so good. And the show is excellent.

message 21: by Joy (new)

Joy | 1116 comments I didn't care for the show much, but loving the book so far. The best part of the show in my opinion was that yummy Jason Momoa (khal Drogo) lol

Joy | 1116 comments Elyse- no worries! :)

message 27: by Joy (new)

Joy | 1116 comments Charleen- yes! January was an amazing book/reading month for me! Things are slowing down now. But since I read so much in jan. I have a little extra time in feb.

Joy, I liked that series: uglies, pretties, etc. I think I read the first two, I'll have to finish the rest.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 8843 comments Mod
For me, the Uglies series started out great but steadily got worse. :/

message 37: by Joy (new)

Joy | 1116 comments Andrea. I borrowed the first two from a friend... Ironically named Andrea! Lol I haven't gotten to the 2nd one yet. Not sure if I will keep going after the first 2, we will see.

message 38: by Joy (new)

Joy | 1116 comments Elyse....maybe I will only make it through the first 2 ( which I borrowed) and skip buying the rest! :)

It's funny once I start a series I feel the need to finish it...hahah

message 45: by Joy (new)

Joy | 1116 comments Lol... It depends on how good it is. I like to drag them out by reading a few books in between each in the series... Lol

Andrea wrote: "It's funny once I start a series I feel the need to finish it...hahah"

I'm like that most times, but if book 1 is really bad, I won't. But I try to have hopes the series will get better! lol. Uglies and Beautiful Creatures grew steadily worse, IMO. :/ So that was really disappointing, when the first book starts off really strong.

message 47: by Joy (new)

Joy | 1116 comments When I want to start a series I buy the first three books in the series that way if its really good I can keep reading, but if it stinks then I only have a few. I also buy them used for .01 on amazon, that way I didn't "waste " a bunch if money if I don't like them.

Smart thinking!

I like that idea! I hardly ever order books because I have so (so, so, so,so) many books at home that are just sitting these unread.

Oh no, are Uglies and beautiful creatures really that bad? I just ordered them because I liked the premise.. :(
