I really liked the first one, very differenty from what I normally read though. The second one was good and I heard the third one is really good.

Joy looks like you have stepped up the pace with your reading!

Joy | 1116 comments Trying to... It's been slow as of late because of family vacation (traveling) and I was reading the 2nd book in the song of ice and Fire which is over 1000 pages. It took me a month to read! Now to try and knock a few off my "Currently Reading" list....most of which are on my kindle.

Karol Hello, Joy! How do you like Lowry's "Giver" quartet? I've only recently become aware of it. I remember Lowry from "Number the Stars", which I absolutely loved. Seems like "Giver" is quite a departure from that.

I really enjoyed it!! Quick easy reads, I wasn't so sure about the ending. It felt like she didn't tie up the conclusion too well, but eh what are yah gonna do, right? lol

Well - sounds like something I should take a look at. It does kind of bug me, though, when an ending is less than satisfactory. Sometimes, we just need to fill in the details on our own, I suppose!

Charleen (charleenlynette) | 1688 comments Ooh, Nancy Drew! I re-read The Secret of the Old Clock recently and it was a total blast from the past. I even remembered some lines word-for-word as I was reading them!

I really like Jodi Picoult but haven't read her books in awhile. I go through phases where I read 2-3 and then stop for a year. lol. She writes heavy stuff.

I do that too...read her books in sporadic spurts. She does touch on some really tough subjects, which on one hand I love how she's not afraid to explore some touchy subjects, but her books leave me in a funk, thinking over the whole thing for days afterward. So I totally understand how you have to take her stuff in at small increments at a time! I'm the same way!

Thanks for the encouragement . . . I think it's been on my TBR for about the same length of time.

Wow! 1001 books . . . It would be interesting to see that list. Is there a link to it you could post? It's probably a list I should know about already, but somehow I've missed it.

Thank you! I really admire you for working on tackling this list. I'm not sure I'll do the same . . . yet there are many books listed that I've wanted to read for a while now. Quite an intriguing and well-rounded list. I have to say, though, that I was surprised to see my most despised book on the list (The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie). I guess that always happens. I'm sure any person looking at the books I've rated 4 or 5 stars would say I've got a few clinkers in there.

Any way, I'm going to have a lot of fun digging deeper in to this list and I'm sure my To-Read list will grow.

Steel Lily is in my TBR. I'll have to check out Must Love Dogs, I liked the movie. I need to re-read the Wicked series! I own the first 3 but have only read Wicked and Son of a Witch. My friend is currently in possession of them though! I saw the musical in Boston years ago. So good!!

message 98: by Joy (new)

Joy | 1116 comments I loved Must Love Dogs. It was a funny fast read. It took me over 2 weeks to get through the 406 pages that was "Wicked", but I started "Son of a Witch" on Sunday and seem to be going through it quite fast. (Should have it done today or tomorrow) I seem to be enjoying it more. Though it is almost 75 pages shorter than Wicked.
