One of my favorite books is The Book of Salt. It's a weird but interesting novel set in 1920s Paris featuring the Vietnamese cook to Gertruide Stein and Alice B. Toklas. And it meets both your criteria - European and Asian.
I will try to think of some more.

Joseph I think Alice I have been and The woman who heard color, based on their synopses, look like fantastic reads. Thank you for the suggestion!

Thank you for this Tony, I hope to read them! Cheers from the neighboring (but still far away) Philippines!

Try Laurel Lamperd - she is a member of GR - she lives in Perth
Wind From Danyari"
Thank you!

I've read it, as well as several of Perez-Reverte's other works. They are all great reads, awesome mysterious adventures. I gave this title as well as The Flanders Panel and The Fencing Master all 5 stars.

News to me that Australia is part of Asia? I know you have strong links but last time I looked it was in Australasia or sometimes classified as Oceania along with New Zealand...

Yang-sze Choo, The Ghost Bride (Malaysia)
Alex Rutherford, Raiders from the North (Central Asia, India)
Dmitry Chen, The Pet Hawk of the House of Abbas (Central Asia)
Bryn Hammond, Amgalant One: The Old Ideal (Mongolia)
My The Golden Lynx (Russia, Tatar khanates)
Ewa Stachniak, The Winter Palace: A Novel of Catherine the Great (Russia)
Anne Perry, The Sheen on the Silk (Byzantium)
Jason Goodwin, The Janissary Tree (Ottoman Turkey)
I could go on endlessly. These are all relatively new, but there are many, many more.

I second The Ghost Bride (especially if you like paranormal fiction!)
