Rachmi | 4882 comments @Rachel, agree with you, I might not know all of the new countries like ex-Uni Soviet countries and all but countries that have already exist for a long time? it's kind of impossible to not know it. Well....I guess we learn about other countries well enough than some people, then lol.

Do you really think GR member want to help me sign a petition? Paranormal, romance and contemporary are popular genre here. But then reading as a hobby or reading for pleasure are still a rare thing here. I rarely saw people read in public places. I just love when I see someone read in public places, because it's so hard to find them.

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi Exactly, Rachmi! I guess we must then! :))

I reckon they would. I mean why wouldn't they?? Especially LoTR fans. Tell people you've been waiting ten years for it and you'll get some sympathy signatures. :)) Really?? Its that rare?? That kind of sad... :((

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Rachel, most of my friends don't like to read. They think buy books is waste money. They don't understand why I want to spend money on books. Because I rarely find people reading at public places, I started to take pictures of people who read at public places. I started it on November 2012 and only got less than 25 until now! I post the pictures on my blog but so far I only posted 1 picture. I can't do it often or regularly because what will I post once I posted them all? I haven't gotten a picture for the last two months, I think. That's so sad, don't you think?

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Maddison, I would do the same if I live in New Zealand. It must be really good living in a beautiful scenery and everywhere you see are green. And no polution! here in Jakarta is full of polution and have bad traffic jam. I need two hours to go to place that actually only need 30 or 45 minutes without traffic jam. So frustrating!

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi Waste of money?? Wow, some people just don't understand how good reading is. I pity the poor, foolish people! Really, only 25?? That's really sad. :((

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Rachel, yeah...that's sad. When I see people reading at public places, I'm so happy it's like they are my friend. By the way, Tolkien's birthday was yesterday. There is a tradition to have a toast for him at 9 pm. My friends from Indonesian Tolkien Society did it. They are so crazy about Tolkien, some of them can read and speak Sindarin :)

message 58: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi Yeah, I get that. Especially when they are reading a book you love! :)) Really?? How old would he have been?? He died a long time ago didn't he?? Wow, that kind of cool and I would love to be impressed but, what Sindarin?? :))

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Rachel, Sindarin is one of Elves languages in Tolkien books. He created it along with many languages for the stories. When you read the book, you'll know what I mean or if you watch the movies you can hear the characters speak it.

message 60: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi Oh okay. Figured it was something like that. :))

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Rachel, Tolkien would have been 122 years old, he died in 1973 at 81 years old. Here is an example of elvish word. I got it from The Hobbit the movie facebook page

message 62: by Winnie (new)

Winnie (canadianhorseluver) | 72 comments I'll join this. I've been meaning to read Lord of the Rings for a long time.

message 63: by Tris (new)

Tris | 678 comments Are we reading all three books of the trilogy on this thread?

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Adrian, we will start with the first book, The Fellowship of The Ring, on March 8th but I don't know whether Rachel, Maddison and Tayla have schedule while we read it, like how many chapters in a day or whether we read it in our pace. I'm up either way, though.

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Tris, Rachel put LOTR in Series Read Along thread, I guess we will read all three books on this thread. So will you join us? :)

message 66: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi That's awesome!

message 67: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Winnie Yayy! I have been meaning to read this forever too. Hope they're good! :)

message 68: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi Nah, I don't like to read by schedules so I won't be but I know Maddie usually does so she might like to.

message 69: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi (+ @Tris) I did put this in the series read along thread because I at least plan on reading the whole trilogy. You don't have to if you don't want to. :)

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Rachel, I never read by schedule but since it's my reread, I think I'm going to try it with The Fellowship of The Ring if Maddison do it.

message 71: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi I have a few times. I just don't like to. Too much pressure. If you want to, I am sure Maddie will want to. :)

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Rachel, how does it works, anyway? Should I read a chapter a day or else?

Btw, I would love to read the whole trilogy with you :D

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Adrian, I'm going to read a chapter a day too, it will be my first experience :)

Rachmi | 4882 comments Agree, I usually couldn't read more than one book at one time. But since it will be a reread to me, I think I can manage that. While at the same time I can still join reading challenge or reading books I want to read. I still haven't decided whether I'll read Indonesian or English version, though. As much as I love Tolkien I never read his books in English :)

message 75: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi Maybe is you read the English version you could compare them?? That might be interesting to see the differences between translations.

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Adrian, I read The Mortal Instruments series in Indonesian, it didn't as good as in English version but for The Hobbit and LOTR I really loved the way the translator did her job. My friends who have already read both version also said that she did a great job.

But I think you and Rachel are right. It's time for me to read in English so that I can compare it myself. Now, there's one more reason I should read it a chapter a day. To give me time to enjoy it more than when I read in Indonesian, don't you think? :D

message 77: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi I am glad you are going to give it a go. Your lucky that you have the option too and I am honestly curious about the differences. I agree that you should give it a go! :) But take it slow if it is going to be harder for you.

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Rachel, I think it will be the bright side of reading by schedule, I can take it slow. I can't wait to know the difference either. And to hear your thought about it, whether you will like it or not :D

message 79: by Leïla (new)

Leïla (leilazitouni) Hi everybody! I've just entered the group, and I've been meaning to read LOTR for so long, I'd love to join in the buddy read. Have you all started already? Or are you going to start in march? How does it work? Sorry, I've never done a buddy read before so I'm a little lost hahah :)

message 80: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Rachmi Yes, I am getting really excited to finally start this. I really hope I like it.

message 81: by Leïla (new)

Leïla (leilazitouni) @Adrian great! Count me in then :) so excited!

Anastasia aka Taurendil (theanastasia) Rachel wrote: "@Tris Should you read The Hobbit first?? I haven't read it before and, truthfully, haven't the slightest idea what the books are even about.

Actually Silmarillion isn´t a prequel to The Hobbit, it´s a book about the prehistory/history of Middle-Earth, the place where the hobbits, elves, orcs and others live. The Lord of the Rings series tells what happens 60 years after The Hobbit. So if you´re not interested in the history of Middle-Earth and how it was created and who lived there a long time ago, you can skip Silmarillion. But The Hobbit and LotR have many of the same characters etc.

Rachmi | 4882 comments I'm really Interested with Silmarillion, though it's quite freak me out since I never read Tolkien books in English and if I want to read it, I have to since it in English because there isn't Indonesian translation yet. I take that you have already read it? Is it true that it's so confusing? with the worldbuilding, characters and all?

message 84: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia aka Taurendil (theanastasia) Hehehe, I have read The Hobbit and LotR but not Silmarillion. I tried to, and started it, but I didn´t get far because of the language even though it wasn´t in English. It´s on my not finished list of books and hopefully I´ll try again some day! The characters or world are not that different than the ones in LotR.. I wasn´t interested in it enough to read it to the end but I´m sure if I had, I would´ve liked it. Yes, it was about the language as it´s written in a - kind of Shakespearean or Biblical - language, if you know what I mean :)

message 85: by Martha (new)

Martha Might try and join you all with this :)

message 86: by grimple (new)

grimple ᵔᴥᵔ | 227 comments I've been wanting to read this series forever. Whenever it'd be on TV I'd avoid it because it knew one day I wanted to read it, and I think March 8th will be the day :D

message 87: by rachel, x (new)

rachel, x (typedtruths) | 8401 comments @Martha Pls join us! :)

@Grace Awesome. I have been avoiding the movies to because I knew that I wanted to read the books. I am excited to finally get around to them. Hope you can join us. :)

Na I love New Zealand. When I'm older I don't want to move. It's so pretty and comfortable.

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 53720 comments Mod
Anyone still going ahead with this? And we're aiming for a chapter a day correct?

message 90: by Danna (new)

Danna (dannasia) | 187 comments Actually own a copy of The Hobbit and TLoTR. I'm stuck at chapter 3 of The Hobbit though. :D Started reading it last year and haven't been able to continue since. I think this will be the perfect time to finish the series.

message 91: by Leïla (new)

Leïla (leilazitouni) I'm still up for it

message 92: by Winnie (new)

Winnie (canadianhorseluver) | 72 comments I'm still doing this

message 93: by Martha (new)

Martha I'm up for it too :)

message 94: by Barb (new)

Barb (bubasbookshelf) Oh my gosh, I love LOTR :3
I might join you, but not sure if I will have time :/

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Maddison, yes, I still want to reread it a chapter a day. It will be easier for me because I can only read it when I'm at home. My copy is so thick (the whole series in one book) and is kinda precious for me since it was a gift and is 50th anniversary edition. I don't want to bring it with me everywhere I go :D

Rachmi | 4882 comments @Luna, you should join us. I love it too! Maddison and I will read it a chapter a day so it will be so slow and there is plenty of time for you to read it :)

message 97: by Maddie (new)

Maddie (maddisonbruce) | 53720 comments Mod
I don't know if I'll be able to start this because I'm really busy. And if I do I might not be able to read a whole chapter a day haha.

Rachmi | 4882 comments Maddison wrote: "I don't know if I'll be able to start this because I'm really busy. And if I do I might not be able to read a whole chapter a day haha."

That's okay Maddison, I don't think I can do it either since I have problems with my left eye. So I'll read slowly, like really slowly :D

message 99: by Barb (new)

Barb (bubasbookshelf) OK, I will join. Lathough I'm not sure how will I balance three books without messing up my exam in the end hahaha xD

Rachmi | 4882 comments Luna wrote: "OK, I will join. Lathough I'm not sure how will I balance three books without messing up my exam in the end hahaha xD"

Just take your time, I know I'll take my time slowly. I'm sure The Fellowship don't mind if we read it so slow lol
