Today is fine with me :) . I saw the chapters are quite long so I'll read 1-2 chapters per day.

So, I've read the first 2 chapters. I'm really confused with this story right now. I can't understand how he can pretend to be a vampire. Doesn't he get sick from eating raw meat?

Also, it's hard to feel sorry for the character since he's doing nothing besides trying to "blend in". The descriptions for this "society" are just plain weird and not in a gripping and intense/interesting kind of way. Also, the logic behind them using horses instead of cars is flawed. Cars provide far more commodities: they are cleaner, easier to keep and much more faster. You can use cars for short distances just as good as horses, better actually.

I can "dig" the fact that he won the lottery, if he hadn't the story would have not started, but I can't believe that from all those people he ended up going there with his love interest. Too much of a coincidence...

What are your feelings on this so far Riya?

I'll actually be starting tonight, so I'll have my opinions on the first couple chapters up sometime tomorrow :)

So after the first couple chapters I'm somewhat with you. Although I agree with the whole raw meat thing, I actually find the society intriguing. Many parts are definitely really really weird, but I still find the other parts interesting enough. Yeah- I don't understand certain things, such as horses and the weird wrist-scratching thing :/

Yeah....I'm also not a huge fan of her as the love interest simply because the whole vampire-human thing seems a bit too unrealistic in this context.

I've read the next few chapters as well (up to Hunt Minus Four Nights) and the book has definitely picked up. I'm kinda weirded out since based on the chapter titles, I don't think we'll actually see much of the hunt in this book?
Either way, I'm surprised the protagonist has survived this long since obviously there's a ton of risks with being a human in this society. Ashely is intriguing enough, but she totally creeps me out. Her obsessions with humans just makes me think that the whole her being a love interest thing is just SUPER unrealistic :(

I'm mainly interested in the actual humans that are in captivity- they really interest me, especially the female one, so I hope we get to know them and they don't just get killed of or something!

Yes, the actual hunt is in the last chapter. I saw this book has quite few chapters. So I'm going to read a chapter per day since they are quite long. I've also read "4 days till the hunt" today and tomorrow I'll read "3 days till the hunt" :P.
So far I'm really panicked for him because he has no water left and even in a cold night he's still going to sweat. And there's nothing more smelly than dried sweat so he's in deep trouble.
Also, regarding that hole, maybe the humans did it, trying to study the hunters :P .

Okay, good to know. And yeah I'll probably finish it tomorrow some time (simply cause I can mainly read on weekends)- I'll try to post after I finish each chapter so we can have conversations :)

And yeah- it's so crazy!!! Wow that's a good idea! I really want to know about it- I think it might've been Ashley or something...

I was also thinking of Ashley at some point, but then I think that would be unrealistic, except if he's also a heper and wants to test her theory. But I find that far fetched.

I'm reading 3 other books this weekend so I really can't read this one that fast. Sorry ^^.

So I've just got the last chapter left! Here are my thoughts:

(view spoiler)[WOAH can't believe Ashley is a human too...like woah didn't see that one coming. And I have to admit that for some reason I still don't like her. I mean she seems pretty dang perfect and all that, but for some reason she just doesn't sit well with me- maybe because she does seem too perfect or something?
Anyways, this past chapter was so eventful. Like Gene almost died and whatnot! And I wonder about the man in the bathroom during the Gala (he also put me off ashley a little bit- for some reason I really liked this random guy, so I trust him :P). Barely anything else important happened at the Gala, so I bet this guy is somehow important- and I really want to know why. (hide spoiler)]

I'm gonna start the last chapter soon, and then I'll post my final thoughts :D

So I finished the book- and dang that last chapter was awesome!!!
(view spoiler)[Wow...so much happened. I can't believe Ashely was left behind. Like woah! What's gonna happen to her now! I'm really intrigued to see how she ends up- hopefully she doesn't just die or something....I have to admit that the humans all seem really interesting. Sissy and Ben and all of them seem like awesome characters who I want to read more about.
I'm also still mindblown by how Gene's dad is the Scientist!!!! Like WHAT I did NOT see that one coming! I REALLY want to know more about that! Like I need to find out what's going on!!!!
I think that's pretty much it for now....Can't wait to continue the series! (hide spoiler)]

I'm sorry I can't discuss this with you anymore. I tried, I really did, but this story just makes me nauseated. I find more of the things happening in this book as perfect cringe material. I cringed so much while reading this.
It might get better later on, but right now I'm just creeped out and disgusted and in a state of shock about how much I dislike this book.

If I were to summarize it in a word, that would be: CRINGE. That's how it makes me feel >.<

That is totally fine. I've read books like that (Enclave for example) where I've had the exact same problem!

Are you kidding me with that ending?? I have way too many questions. How wasn't the father the scientist?? Was it before he had Gene or did he sneak away and become the scientist while Gene was at work? Does that mean Gene could possibly be related to one of the Hepers? Also I don't understand how the vampires haven't already cultivated more of the world so that they always have safe houses from the sun. Seems unlikely that they don't. (hide spoiler)]
